  • This invention relates generally to handles for tools, sporting equipment, and the like and more particularly to handles which are adjustable or adaptable to the size of the hands of the user.
  • Handles for tools and the like are generally designed to fit some average hand size. This is adequate for most applications because the human hand can generally adapt, for a short time, to grip sizes which would be awkward for long term use. For one using a variety of tools, grip size is not so critical; however, under conditions of long term continuous use, an inappropriate grip fit can detract from operator comfort and convenience. Thus, for assembly lines or other long term repetitive operations, the tool handle grip size can impinge unfavourably on the quality and quantity of a worker's output.
  • Tennis racquet handles offer a limited variety of grip sizes in an attempt to accommodate player hand sizes. This reduces the distractive irritation which can result from an improper grip fit and which can detract from the quality of play. However, as presently available, one must purchase a different racquet for each hand grip size desired.
  • a handle having an adjustable grip size comprising a handle base; characterised by means for adjusting the grip size of the handle, said means for adjusting being an adjustable handle augmenter portion mounted on the handle base; and means for joining said handle augmenter to said handle base.
