Description

HOLDER WITH A COVER
The present invention relates to holders with covers such as are manufactured in great numbers for the purpose of packaging food, paint and the like. Holder and cover are usually injection moulded from plastic, such as polyethylene, polypropylene and the like, wherein the cover is typically manufactured from a softer plastic than the holder.
Such holders have to be properly closable and relatively easy to open.
It is further of importance that such holders with cover have an attractive appearance as this enhances the marketabi¬ lity of the content of the holder.
The present invention provides a holder with cover as according to claim 1.
A further aspect of the present invention relates to a holder provided with hand-grips which lie comfortably in the hand and do not disturb the compact appearance of the holder. The holder according to claim 2 is furthermore nestable in addition to being stackable with cover. The skirt is rein¬ forced by the hand-grips formed thereon. Another aspect of the present invention relates to the printing with text of such holders. The holder according to claim 3 prevents a handle of the correct size that may be attached thereto from hanging in front of the outer surface of the holder during printing thereof. In currently normal practice handles are mainly fitted after printing, which usually takes place manually and also necessitates extra storage and transport.
If the handle is embodied in plastic and rests on the bosses it is virtually invisible, thus not disturbing the compact appearance of the holder.
A further aspect of the present invention relates to sealing of such holders closed with covers so as to prevent material undesired by the seller of the holders with content. such as poison in food, contraband and the like, from being added by unauthorized persons.
The present invention further provides a sealing element. Further details, features and advantages will become apparent in the light of a description of preferred embodi¬ ments and embodiments of the present invention with reference to the annexed drawings, wherein: figure 1 shows a perspective view of a first preferred embodiment of the present invention; figure 2 shows a partly cut away perspective view of the preferred embodiment of figure 1; figure 3 shows a perspective view of a sealing element according to the present invention; figure 4 is a perspective view of another preferred embodiment of the present invention; and figure 5 is a perspective view of the holder of figure 4 with a freely accessible top opening.
In the present invention a distinction can be made bet¬ ween holders with a capacity of about 0.4-14 litres and larger holders, also because customers for such holders are wholly distinct. In addition, the smaller capacity holders are gene¬ rally supplied without handles.
The holder 1 (figure 1) of for instance 5 litre capacity is provided with a cover 2 in which an upstanding disc 3 is arranged for the purpose of stacking with a corresponding base (not shown) of the holder 1.
As can also be seen in figure 2, a cover 2 is provided with a groove 4 which grips over a top edge 5 of the holder 1. In addition a downward hanging skirt 7 is arranged on the side wall 6 of holder 1. Around the skirt 7 is arranged a recess 8 for easy bending of the cover during opening of the holders.
Arranged on the skirt 7 are one or more hand-grips 9 the outer surface 10 of which stands out slightly more than the skirt 8, so that a user can place his hand thereunder while the angle is not so large that the compact appearance of the outer wall of the holder is disturbed. In addition the hand- grip supports the skirt 7 by means of the side walls 11. The hand-grip 9 further forms a stop in the nesting of such hol¬ ders, while a number of nested holders or buckets can be carried on the hand-grip. In preference an eye 12 is arranged 5 above the middle of the hand-grip 9 wherein a handle can be simply placed.
The cover 2 is preferably sealed onto the holder 1 using sealing elements 20 (figure 1, 2 and 3) whereof a number, depending on the size of the holder and in the embodiment
10. shown three, are arranged at regular intervals round the cover.
As can be seen in figures 2 and 3 the sealing elements 20 can be fitted onto the holder and the cover in a simple operation.
15 After a counter-element 21 has been hooked under the skirt 7 a jaw member 22 is pushed over the top side of the groove 4 of the cover, wherein the arm 23 provided with upward oriented teeth 24 is received by the counter-element 21. As can be seen in figure 2, the arm 23 is received between a
20 bridge element 25 which extends transversely of the arm 23 and which is fixed between two upward directed arms 26 and 27 and a lip 28 gripping onto the teeth.
As will be apparent, such a sealing element can only be removed through forcing, that is breaking, thereof.
25 Depending on the stiffness of the arm 23 and the lip 28 the counter-element can be provided with a second bridge element parallel to the bridge element 25 but arranged at some interval above or below it.
The embodiment shown in figures 4 and 5 relates to a
30 holder with a capacity of more than 15 litres on which a plastic handle 31 is arranged using the eyes above the hand¬ grips 9, while the skirt 37 is provided with one or more protruding stop elements 38. As the handle 31 has an only slightly greater length than half the outer periphery, of the
35 opening 33 of the holder it will rest in downward pivoted position (figure 5) on one or more bosses 38, whereby this handle does not form an obstacle to printing with text of the outer wall 35 of holder 30.
Furthermore, the handle 31 in downward pivoted position does not disturb the appearance of holder 30, for instance when the hand-grips are used to carry this holder 30.
