- a reservoir 1 and reactor 5 are interconnected through heat accumulation pipes 17 and 19 and heat radiation pipes 13 and 20 to constitute a circulation loop as shown in FIG. 1.
- the reservoir 1 contains a reaction medium 2, such as water whereas the reactor accommodates a reaction material 7, such as lime, zeolite and silica gel.
- the reservoir 1 is a high temperature heat accumulator. It is essential that the reaction medium 2 is a substance such that it is liquefied in the reservoir 1 as a result of its phase change within the operation temperature range. For this reason, water is preferably used as the reaction medium 2 whereas lime, zeolite and silica gel which become high temperature heat by reacting with water may be adopted as the reaction material 7.

- a heat medium such as an oil and water, is sealed in these closed systems.
- the closed circulation loop operates as follows. Heat held in the atmosphere, waste heat and solar heat are collected by actuating the pump 22 of the heat transfer unit 100f for the heat accumulation, and thereby the reaction material 7 in the reactor 5 is heated. This heating causes the reaction medium 2 to be separated from the reaction material 7. Then, the compressor 3 is actuated and the valve 9 is opened, so that gas of the reaction medium 2 generated in the reactor 5 is delivered to the reservoir 1 for pressurization.
- the reaction medium 2 pressurized in the reservoir 1 is liquefied at a high temperature and pressure.
- the reservoir 1 is a high temperature heat accumulator.
- the reaction material 7 in the reactor 5 is regenerated whilst liquefied reaction medium 2 is accumulated at a high temperature and pressure within the reservoir 1. Then, at an appropriate time, the valve 9 is closed, the compressor 3 is stopped, and the valve 11 is opened. These operations cause the reaction medium 2 in the reservoir 1 to be evaporated, and the generated vapor is passed to the reaction material 7 in the reactor 5 through the heat radiation pipe 13. As a result, the reaction material 7 generates heat and reaches a temperature much higher than the reaction medium 2. In this manner, heat which is provided by the heat collecting side heat exchanger 30 becomes a high temperature in the compressor 3 and is then accumulated in the reservoir 1. From the reservoir 1, heat is then introduced through the heat radiation pipe 13 into the reaction material 7, where it reaches a very high temperature. The heat pump thus enables heat to be derived at a very high temperature from the heat transfer unit 100e for heat radiation.
- the heat pump is essentially operated as described but it is preferable that a plurality of (two in FIG. 1) the circulation loops are used in combination for smoothly performing the heat accumulation and heat radiation operations.
- the second circulation loop includes a reactor 6, containing a reaction material 8.
- the reactor 6 and the reservoir 1 are interconnected in parallel with the first circulation loop through a heat accumulation pipe 18 and a heat radiation pipe 14.
- the heat accumulation pipe 18 is provided with a compressor 4 and a valve 10
- the heat radiation pipe 14 is provided with a valve 12.
- the second reactor 6 has a heat transfer unit 100h for heat accumulation and a heat transfer unit 100g for heat radiation or emission connected to it as shown.
- the heat transfer unit 100g includes a reactor side heat exchanger 27, a heat radiation or emission side heat exchanger 31 and a pump 23, which are connected through a conduit to form a closed circulation passage.
- a reactor side heat exchanger 28 In the heat transfer unit 100h a reactor side heat exchanger 28, a heat collecting side heat exchanger 32 and a pump 24 are connected to form another closed circulation passage.
- the first and second closed loops are alternately operated. This facilitates adjustment of the reservoir 1 in temperature and pressure, prevents overload operation of the compressors 3 and 4, and lowers the failure rate thereof.
- the adjustment of the temperature and pressure in the reservoir 1 may be achieved by the rotational speed of the compressor 3 and opening degrees of the valves 9 and 12 or the rotational speed of the compressor 4 and opening degrees of the valves 10 and 11.
- the heat accumulation pipe 19 is arranged to pass through the reservoir 1 from the bottom of the latter as shown, and communicates to a heat exchanger 15 provided within the reservoir 1.
- An outlet pipe 16 of the pipe 19 is projected from an upper wall of the reservoir 1 and then communicates at its distal end to the interior of the reservoir 1 through the upper wall. In this manner, it is possible to uniformly and sufficiently heat the liquid and the gas of the reaction medium 2 which is contained in the reservoir 1.
- the pipe 19 may pass through a side wall of the reservoir 1.
- the heat pump as illustrated in FIG. 2 is provided with a third loop in addition to the first and second loops.

- a single compressor 3 is provided, and three loops are switched by valves 9, 10 and 58. That is, the compressor 3 is operated full time.
- the heat exchanger 15 which is connected to the heat accumulation pipe 38 is arranged to extend along the outer surfaces (side and bottom surfaces) of the reservoir 1 so that the reaction medium 2 within the reservoir 1 may be heated through the walls of the reservoir 1.

For example, when the reactor 5 of the first loop is in the heat accumulation (regeneration) mode, the reactor 6 of the second loop and the reactor 50 of the third loop are in the heat radiation mode and at a rest, respectively. Alternatively, two of the loops may be overlap in their operation modes for a limited time. More specifically, while the first and second loops are in the heat accumulation (regeneration) mode and the heat radiation mode, respectively, the third loop may be operated for heat accumulation (regeneration) for the first half and for heat radiation for the second half.

Description
- The invention relates to a heat pump system comprising a first reactor accommodating a reaction material and including a first heat transfer means and a second heat transfer means for transferring heat to and from the first reactor, a second reactor adapted to accommodate a reaction medium, a compressor, first piping means for interconnecting the first reactor and the second reactor through the compressor and a first valve and second piping means for interconnecting the first reactor and the second reactor through a second valve, whereby the first reactor, the second reactor, the compressor and the first and second piping means constitute a circulation loop for circulating the reaction medium, wherein in a first step the reaction medium is evaporated from the reaction material in the first reactor by low-temperature heat of its first heat transfer means, while in a second step the reaction medium is passed from the second reactor to the reaction material in the first reactor generating high-temperature heat which is transferred to the second heat transfer means of the first reactor.
- With such a heat pump system as known from US-A-4 183 734, the reactors are filled with an adsorbent, which may be lime, zeolite, silical gel. The adsorbable component is usually water. The adsorbable component is desorbed from the first bed of the reversible adsorbent previously separated with the adsorbable component. The heat required is transferred to the bed from a low-temperature reservoir in heat exchange relationship with the bed of adsorbent. The adsorbable component is then adsorbed on a second bed of the reversible adsorbent and the heat released is transferred to a high-temperature reservoir in heat exchange relationship with the bed. In order for the system to operate continuously, the mode of operation of the first and second bed of the reversible adsorbent is periodically reversed. Such a heat pump system is complicated in its structure and does not take into consideration the recovery of heat in regeneration of the reaction material and efficient use of the heat, thus, the high temperature rise may not be sufficient.
- EP 0 216 237 A2 describes a reservoir device having a solid adsorbent in a first containment in which a heat exchanger for a heat exchange medium is sealingly inserted. Further, a second containment is provided, in which a further heat exchanger is sealingly mounted and which is connected by a piping means with the first containment for the transport of a reaction medium, which can be adsorbed or desorbed in the adsorbent of the first containment. The second containment can be operated as an evaporator or as a condenser.
- It is the object of the invention to provide a heat pump system with a simplified construction which allows uniform and sufficient heating of the liquid and gas phase of the reaction medium in the second reactor.
- This object is achieved in that the second reactor is a reservoir in which the reaction medium evaporated in the first step in the first reactor is condensed and collected and is evaporated in the second step to be passed to the reaction material in the first reactor for generating the high-temperature heat, in that the first piping means is connected to a heat exchanger provided within the reservoir or extending along the outer surfaces of the reservoir, and in that the first piping means opens to an upper inner space of the reservoir.
- The heat pump system according to the invention provides a high efficiency and therefore a high-temperature rise as the heat recovery is improved with regard to the prior art. Further, the structure of the heat pump system is simplified compared to the prior art.
- Preferably, at least one further first reactor is provided which is connected by a first valve to the compressor and which is connected by a further second piping means comprising a further second valve with the reservoir.
- Advantageously, at least one further first reactor is provided which is connected by a further compressor and a further first valve to the first piping means and by a further second piping means and a further second valve with the reservoir, wherein in parallel connection operation the first valve and the further second valve are open while the further first valve and the second valve are closed and the further first valve and the second valve are open while the first valve and the further second valve are closed, respectively.
- Conveniently, at least one further reservoir for a further circulation loop is provided which reservoirs are thermally coupled to each other.
- It is further preferred that the heat transfer means for heat accumulation each comprises a heat collection side heat exchanger, that the heat transfer means for heat emission each comprises a heat emission side heat exchanger, that fins are provided, part of the fins integrally assembling the heat collection side heat exchangers of the heat transfer means for heat accumulation, and that the rest of the fins integrally assembles the heat emission side heat exchangers of the heat transfer means for heat emission.
- It is further convenient that the heat system comprises heat recovering means for recovering surplus heat generated from one of the first reactors to another first reactor in which regeneration is started, the one first reactor having completed the reaction between the reaction material and the reaction medium.
- According to the present invention, gas generated from the reaction material in regeneration is highly raised in temperature and pressure by the compressor, and is then accumulated in the reservoir without any significant loss. On the other hand, the reaction medium which becomes high in temperature and pressure in the reservoir reaches the reaction material portion in the reactor, where the reaction medium reacts with the reaction material to generate heat with a high temperature. Thus, the heat pump of the present invention is capable of providing a high temperature rise and a high efficiency as compared to the prior art.

- Referring to FIG. 1, one embodiment of the present invention will be described hereinafter. A
reservoir 1 andreactor 5 are interconnected throughheat accumulation pipes heat radiation pipes 13 and 20 to constitute a circulation loop as shown in FIG. 1. Thereservoir 1 contains areaction medium 2, such as water whereas the reactor accommodates areaction material 7, such as lime, zeolite and silica gel. Thereservoir 1 is a high temperature heat accumulator. It is essential that thereaction medium 2 is a substance such that it is liquefied in thereservoir 1 as a result of its phase change within the operation temperature range. For this reason, water is preferably used as thereaction medium 2 whereas lime, zeolite and silica gel which become high temperature heat by reacting with water may be adopted as thereaction material 7. It is preferable to thermally insulate around thereservoir 1. Theheat accumulation pipe 17 is provided with acompressor 3 and avalve 9. Theheat radiation pipe 13 has avalve 11 disposed therein. Thereactor 5 includes aheat transfer unit 100e for heat radiation or emission and aheat transfer unit 100f for heat accumulation. Theheat transfer unit 100e includes a reactorside heat exchanger 25, a heat radiation or emissionside heat exchanger 29 and apump 21, which are connected through a conduit to form a closed circulation passage. In theheat transfer unit 100f, a reactorside heat exchanger 26, a heat collectingside heat exchanger 30 and apump 22 are connected to form another closed circulation passage. A heat medium, such as an oil and water, is sealed in these closed systems. - The closed circulation loop operates as follows. Heat held in the atmosphere, waste heat and solar heat are collected by actuating the
pump 22 of theheat transfer unit 100f for the heat accumulation, and thereby thereaction material 7 in thereactor 5 is heated. This heating causes thereaction medium 2 to be separated from thereaction material 7. Then, thecompressor 3 is actuated and thevalve 9 is opened, so that gas of thereaction medium 2 generated in thereactor 5 is delivered to thereservoir 1 for pressurization. Thereaction medium 2 pressurized in thereservoir 1 is liquefied at a high temperature and pressure. Thereservoir 1 is a high temperature heat accumulator. - By such an operation, the
reaction material 7 in thereactor 5 is regenerated whilst liquefiedreaction medium 2 is accumulated at a high temperature and pressure within thereservoir 1. Then, at an appropriate time, thevalve 9 is closed, thecompressor 3 is stopped, and thevalve 11 is opened. These operations cause thereaction medium 2 in thereservoir 1 to be evaporated, and the generated vapor is passed to thereaction material 7 in thereactor 5 through theheat radiation pipe 13. As a result, thereaction material 7 generates heat and reaches a temperature much higher than thereaction medium 2. In this manner, heat which is provided by the heat collectingside heat exchanger 30 becomes a high temperature in thecompressor 3 and is then accumulated in thereservoir 1. From thereservoir 1, heat is then introduced through theheat radiation pipe 13 into thereaction material 7, where it reaches a very high temperature. The heat pump thus enables heat to be derived at a very high temperature from theheat transfer unit 100e for heat radiation. - The heat pump is essentially operated as described but it is preferable that a plurality of (two in FIG. 1) the circulation loops are used in combination for smoothly performing the heat accumulation and heat radiation operations. In FIG. 1, the second circulation loop includes a
reactor 6, containing areaction material 8. Thereactor 6 and thereservoir 1 are interconnected in parallel with the first circulation loop through aheat accumulation pipe 18 and aheat radiation pipe 14. Theheat accumulation pipe 18 is provided with acompressor 4 and avalve 10, and theheat radiation pipe 14 is provided with avalve 12. Thesecond reactor 6 has aheat transfer unit 100h for heat accumulation and aheat transfer unit 100g for heat radiation or emission connected to it as shown. - The
heat transfer unit 100g includes a reactorside heat exchanger 27, a heat radiation or emissionside heat exchanger 31 and apump 23, which are connected through a conduit to form a closed circulation passage. - In the
heat transfer unit 100h a reactorside heat exchanger 28, a heat collectingside heat exchanger 32 and apump 24 are connected to form another closed circulation passage. - Basically, the first and second closed loops are alternately operated. This facilitates adjustment of the
reservoir 1 in temperature and pressure, prevents overload operation of thecompressors reservoir 1 may be achieved by the rotational speed of thecompressor 3 and opening degrees of thevalves compressor 4 and opening degrees of thevalves - In parallel connection operation of the first and second loops, heat flows through the
heat transfer unit 100f of heat accumulation, thereactor 5, thecompressor 3, thereservoir 1, thevalve 12, thereactor 6 and thetransfer unit 100g for heat radiation in the first cycle while heat flows through theheat transfer unit 100h for heat accumulation, thereactor 6, thecompressor 4, thereservoir 1, thevalve 11, thereactor 5 and theheat transfer unit 100e for heat radiation in the second cycle. - In the heat pump of FIG. 1 the
heat accumulation pipe 19 is arranged to pass through thereservoir 1 from the bottom of the latter as shown, and communicates to aheat exchanger 15 provided within thereservoir 1. Anoutlet pipe 16 of thepipe 19 is projected from an upper wall of thereservoir 1 and then communicates at its distal end to the interior of thereservoir 1 through the upper wall. In this manner, it is possible to uniformly and sufficiently heat the liquid and the gas of thereaction medium 2 which is contained in thereservoir 1. Thepipe 19 may pass through a side wall of thereservoir 1. - The heat pump as illustrated in FIG. 2 is provided with a third loop in addition to the first and second loops. The third loop is constituted by the
reservoir 1, aheat radiation pipe 60 with avalve 61, areactor 50 containing areaction material 57, aheat accumulation pipe 59 with avalve 58, aheat accumulation pipe 38 with thecompressor 3 and theheat exchanger 15, and theoutlet pipe 16. Thereactor 50 of the third loop has aheat transfer unit 100j for heat accumulation and aheat transfer unit 100i for heat radiation as shown. - The
heat transfer unit 100i includes a reactorside heat exchanger 53, a heat radiationside heat exchanger 55 and apump 51 which are connected through conduits to form a closed circulation passage. - In the
heat transfer unit 100j a reactorside heat exchanger 54, a heat collectingside heat exchanger 56 and apump 52 are connected to form another closed circulation passage. - In this modification, a
single compressor 3 is provided, and three loops are switched byvalves compressor 3 is operated full time. Theheat exchanger 15 which is connected to theheat accumulation pipe 38 is arranged to extend along the outer surfaces (side and bottom surfaces) of thereservoir 1 so that thereaction medium 2 within thereservoir 1 may be heated through the walls of thereservoir 1. The three loops may be operated in three different modes. For example, when thereactor 5 of the first loop is in the heat accumulation (regeneration) mode, thereactor 6 of the second loop and thereactor 50 of the third loop are in the heat radiation mode and at a rest, respectively. - FIG. 3 shows a still another modified form of the heat pump of FIG. 2, in which a fourth loop is provided in addition to the first, second and third loops. The fourth loop includes the
reservoir 1, aheat radiation pipe 80 with avalve 81, areactor 70 containing reaction material 77, aheat radiation pipe 80 with avalve 81, aheat accumulation pipe 79 with avalve 78, theheat accumulation pipe 38 with thecompressor 3, theheat exchanger 15 and an outlet pipe 16-a. Thereactor 70 has a heat transfer unit 100l for heat accumulation and aheat transfer unit 100k for heat radiation disposed to it as shown. Theheat transfer unit 100k includes a reactor side heat exchanger 73, a heat radiationside heat exchanger 75 and apump 71 which are connected through conduits to form a closed circulation passage. - In the
heat transfer unit 100j a reactor side heat exchanger 74, a heat collectingside heat exchanger 76 and apump 72 are connected to from another closed circulation passage. - In this modified heat pump, the outlet pipe 16-a which extends from the
heat exchanger 15 opens to an upper space within thereservoir 1 without passing through the upper wall of the latter. - FIGS. 4 to 7 illustrate how to operate the four loops of FIG. 4, and particularly show operation modes of the
reactors heat transfer units reactors reactor 50 is in the reaction phase A, and theheat transfer unit 100i is under the heat radiation operation; thereactor 5 is in the regeneration phase C with theheat transfer unit 100f under an operation to transfer heat from aheat source 33 to thereactor 5; thereactor 6 is in the regeneration termination phase, in which theheat transfer unit 100m between thereactors reactor 6 to thereactor 5. In FIGS. 4 through 7, circles indicates pumps; hollow circles represent pumps at rest while solid circles pumps in operation. The operation mode of eachreactor reactor 70 is in the reaction mode; in FIG. 6, thereactor 5 in the reaction mode; and in FIG. 7, thereactor 6 in the reaction mode. - FIGS. 8 to 11 illustrates a modified form of the four loops of FIGS. 4 to 7. In the modified form,
fans heat transfer units reactors cover 90 having a semi-circular shape in plan view is provided around theheat source 33 so as to open side wards. By rotating thecover 90 as shown, hot air from theheat source 33 is blown against the reactor in the regeneration mode C. - Another modified heat pump is illustrated in FIG. 12. In the modified heat pump, the reservoir is divided into two
reservoirs 1 and 1-a which thermally contact through awall 39. Heat transfer between areaction medium 2 in thereservoir 1 and a reaction medium 2-a in the reservoir 1-a is achieved through thewall 39. The first and second loops of this modification are basically independent from each other, and the operation of the heat pump is hence stabilized. - The first loop includes the
reservoir 1, theheat radiation pipe 13 with thevalve 11, thereactor 5, theheat accumulation pipe 17 with thevalve 9, theheat accumulation pipe 38 with thecompressor 3 and aheat accumulation pipe 36 with avalve 34. - The second loop includes the reservoir 1-a, the
heat radiation pipe 14 with thevalve 12, thereactor 6, theheat accumulation pipe 18 with thevalve 10, theheat accumulation pipe 38 with thecompressor 3 commonly with the first loop, and aheat accumulation pipe 37 with avalve 35. - The reservoir 1-a may be disposed within the
reservoir 1 or the reverse may be adopted. In such cases, thereservoir 1 or 1-a may have a structure of a coil-shaped heat exchanger. In a case where more than two loops are combined, more than two reservoirs may be arranged to come into thermal contact to each other. - FIG. 13 shows a modification of the heat pump of FIG. 12. In the modified heat pump, the
reservoirs 1 and 1-a are separated and thermally combined by a heat transfer unit 100S which includes aheat exchanger 41, apump 40 and aheat exchanger 42. The amount of heat transfer from thereaction medium 2 in thereservoir 1 to the reaction medium 2-a of the reservoir 1-a or in the reverse direction may be adjusted by varying the operation factor of thepump 40. This enables inner pressure of thereservoir 1 or the reservoir 1-a to be adjusted. - If the heat transfer unit 100S is provided with a heat accumulation tank, the adjustment of inner pressure of the
reservoir 1 or the reservoir 1-a is further facilitated. The heat accumulation tank may be located in the heat transfer unit 100S or in a bypass circuit which is switched by a valve provided in the heat transfer unit 100S. In the heat pump of FIG. 13,heaters reservoir 1 and reservoir 1-a, respectively, and inputs to theheaters reservoir 1 or reservoir 1-a. This also facilitates the adjustment of the inner pressure and temperature of thereservoir 1 or reservoir 1-a. Theheaters reservoir 1 or 1-a. With such a heat accumulation tank, the adjustment of thereservoir 1 or 1-a in inner pressure and temperature is also performed with ease. As the heat accumulation tank, a sensible heat accumulation type tank, a latent heat accumulation type tank, and a chemical heat accumulation type tank may be used. Heat at high or low temperatures may be provided to the heat exchangers by another heat pump. - FIG. 14 illustrates a modified form of the heat pump of FIG. 13. In the modified form, the heat radiation
side heat exchanger 29 of thereactor 5 and the radiationside heat exchanger 32 of thereactor 6 are integrated by fins 91 whereas the heat collectingside heat exchanger 30 of thereactor 5 and the heat collectionside heat exchanger 31 of thereactor 6 are also integrated byfins 90. With such a construction, the heat pump as a whole may become small sized. - The present invention may adopt a heat flow control heat transfer unit, disclosed in Japanese Patent Examined Publications Nos. 58-53277, 60-37390, etc., as the
heat transfer units heat transfer units - The heat pumps according to the present invention is capable of performing a temperature rise twice larger than and is 20% larger in heat efficiency than the conventional heat pumps. The adjustment of pressure in the reservoirs is, according to the present invention, smoothly achieved by the parallel combination of the loops of heat pumps, and the present invention is thus capable of stabilizing the cyclic operation of the heat pumps.
