Cette solution ajoute deux étapes dans la fabrication du clavier, la réalisation du masque et sa fixation, ce qui engendre une complication du procédé et un coût supplémentaire. Une deuxième solution consiste à employer un système à encliquetage. Dans un tel système ou deux éléments doivent s'encliqueter, un élément porte au moins une lame élastique pourvu d'un crochet, ce crochet venant s'encastrer dans une cavité de l'autre élément. L'assemblage des deux éléments nécessite, dans un premier temps, que la lame s'écarte de sa position de repos. Il faut donc prendre en compte ce débattement, ce qui augmente l'encombrement du dispositif. De plus, les crochets ont une dimension minimale qui est fonction des contraintes de fabrication. Cette dimension minimale ne permet pas de réaliser certains types de clavier qui ont de faibles dimensions et/ou dont les touches sont très proches les unes des autres. En outre, si les éléments (le support et la touche) du clavier sont réalisés par moulage, le façonnage du crochet amène à faire un moule à contre-dépouille.
