Abstract
Description
- The invention relates to the use of a metal or plastic profile as mason's adjusting profile in building a wall for producing a straight bond between stone or brick layers.
- FR-A-368559 discloses a construction element in the form of an X-shaped metal profile with two chambers filled with wood which is accessible from the outside. This element is meant as a horizontal support beam for the connection of boards. It has to be mounted in the ceiling of the room.
- Mason's adjusting profiles are usually made of a wooden post which is held in the vertical position by means of stays which are nailed to the post.
- Since wooden posts can become warped when there are changes in the weather, it is proposed in EP-A-0033992 that use should be made of a metal or plastic tube in which wooden laths or beams are fitted. These laths or beams are accessible from the outside through slits, windows or other apertures in the tube, for hammering in nails, screws or the like.
- A disadvantage of this known mason's adjusting profile is that the surface of wood in which the nails, screws or the like can be hammered is limited, because a considerable part of the wood is covered by parts of the tubular profile.
- The object of the invention is to eliminate this disadvantage and, starting from the profile disclosed in FR-A-368559, to provide a new use of this construction element so that it may be used as a mason's adjusting profile.
- To this end a metal or plastic profile is used as mason's adjusting profile in building a wall for producing a straight bond between stone or brick layers, said profile comprising a core from which extend at least two radial faces which form chambers, said faces having at their free ends retaining elements for retaining wooden laths of suitable shape slid into the chambers, wherein stays are nailed to one ore more wooden laths for fixing the profile in a vertical position, said core having a cavity for the accommodation of a screw spindle.
- The metal or plastic profile can be used also as mason's adjusting profile if in the cavity of the core a screw spindle is accommodated having a clamping plate which is raised to clamp the profile in the vertical position between a floor and a ceiling.
- The profile preferably has four radial faces extending from the corner points from a rectangular core.
- The invention also relates to a metal or plastic profile intended for the above-mentioned mason's adjusting profile.
- The invention will now be explained in greater detail with reference to the figures.
- Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a metal or plastic star profile for use in the mason's adjusting profile according to the invention.
- Figure 2 shows a top view of the star profile according to Figure 1.
- Figure 3 shows a top view of the complete mason's adjusting profile provided with a star profile according to Figures 1, 2.
- Figure 4 shows a longitudinal profile of the top part of the mason's adjusting profile with screw spindle.
- Figure 5 shows a top view of an alternative embodiment of the mason's adjusting profile according to the invention.
- The metal or plastic star profile according to Figures 1 and 2 has a square core 1 and four
faces 2 projecting radially outwards from the corner points of said core, and provided at their free ends with retainingflanges 3. - As Figure 3 shows,
wooden laths 5 of suitable shape are slid into the four chambers 4, each of which is bounded by two radial faces, a peripheral face of the core 1 and twoflanges 3. The wooden laths need not fill the chambers 4 completely. Stays which are intended for fixing the mason's adjusting profile in a vertical position need only be nailed onto the top part of the adjusting profile. Filling both the top and bottom parts of the chambers 4 of the post with wood makes it possible to use the post at both ends. - Major advantages of the mason's adjusting profile described are that the
wooden laths 5 are accessible almost entirely from the outside. Only theretaining flanges 3 cover a small part of the laths. Nevertheless, warping of the post is out of the question. - A
cavity 6 is hollowed out in the core 1 and, as shown in Figure 4, is suitable for the accommodation of a screw spindle 7. The screw spindle 7 is provided at the top end with aclamping plate 8, while a nut 9 is screwed on the spindle. By turning the nut 9, theclamping plate 8 can be raised or lowered. The mason's adjusting profile can thus be clamped in the vertical position between floor and ceiling. Of course, no stays are needed with these fixing methods of the post. Thelaths 5 can even be omitted. - Figure 5 shows an alternative embodiment with two
faces 2 and twolaths 5. Other numbers ofradial faces 2 are also possible. The essential feature is that the metal or plastic profile is composed of a core from which extend two, and preferably three or more, radial faces which are provided with retaining elements at their free ends.
