Abstract

There is described a fibre, in particular a monofilament for paper machine wire-cloths, that comprises polyphenylene sulphide and has been drawn. The polyphenylene sulphide is a mixture of 60-90 per cent by weight of a high molecular weight polyphenylene sulphide having a melt flow index of not more than 100 and 10-40 per cent by weight of a low molecular weight polyphenylene sulphide having a melt flow index of at least 120. This fibre has approximately the longitudinal strength of a fibre that consists exclusively of the higher molecular weight polyphenylene sulphide, while the relative knot strength is appreciably higher than that of the higher molecular weight polyphenylene sulphide.
