Description

4907 * P r/NI___/0005 **
Protection device for a window or door.
The invention relates to a protection device for a panel mova with respect to a frame, such as a window or door. A number of diff ing types are known of it. First of all are mentioned the so-cal toggles with the door or window having a shiftable pin which can shifted into a corresponding hole of the frame. Said toggles form additional lock for door or window, which normally spoken are o locked by the locking device or lever respectively. Moreover it is known to apply to the outerside of a door or win a protective strip which covers the seam between panel and frame ad cent to the locking device.
Purpose of said known device is to avoid that the panel lock device can be forced by means of a crow-bar. Said bar in most ca can be inserted between panel and frame adjacent to the surroundings the locking device. Due to the large operative moment obtained with crow-bar the locking device subsequently can be loaded so heavy t this device yields or jumps out of the lock bolt.
Practice has shown, that the above-mentioned devices for protect against forcing a panel in this way do not satisfy. It is true t forcing is somewhat obstructed, but due to the still existing accessible seam between panel and frame with a panel with toggles well a crow-bar still can be inserted therein. Toggles as well app not be resistant against the forces generated by the crow-bar. In cas protective strip is placed, the seam between panel and frame is cove indeed but between the frame and the edge of the protective strip the is a seam as well. Said seam again is accessible for a crow-bar so th the protective strip can be loaded that heavy that said strip yield
The forcing of the panel is hindered by it somewhat but not complete prevented.
Purpose of the invention is to provide a protection device the type mentioned in the preamble by means of which forcing of a do or window by means of e.g. a crow-bar, can be prevented.
According to the invention this is achieved in that the protecti device comprises two sections each with at least two longitudin strips, at least one of said sections being cσnnectable with o longitudinal strip to the frame, the other with a longitudinal strip the panel such that the other longitudinal strips lie free, whereas t longitudinal strips of a first section extend at an angle with respe adjacent areas of frame and panel which extend at the same angle with respect to each other, and one of its longitudinal strips can be con¬ nected to the one area covered by it whilst the free extending longitu¬ dinal strip of the second section extends at a distance parallel to the other areas such that in the closed position of the panel said strip covers the free extending longitudinal strip of the other section.
This seam present between panel and frame as well as present between the turned section and the frame or panel no longer are acces¬ sible. The only remaining indeed accessible seam is located in the inner corner of the turned section between this last mentioned and the freely extending longitudinal strip of the second section. Due to the geometry of the inner corner and the extension of the longitudinal strip of the second section into said corner, the possible depth for insertion of a crow-bar is almost zero. Due to this it is not possible to generate therewith a force of any importance and to force the panel.
The panel itself is reinforced by the section in particular if this section is made from steel.
The protection device according to the invention is suitable for a panel which is pivotable with respect to the frame as well as for a panel which is shif able with respect to the frame.
In the first case it is provided that the first section to be mounted on the panel iε L-shaped, such, that in the closed position of the panel its freely extending longitudinal strip is present between the frame and the freely extending longitudinal strip of the second section, which can be mounted upon the frame.
With said embodiment the seam between two sections extends parallel to the panel. Since the seam is also close to said panel a crow-bar could only be inserted in said seam, assuming that there is a seam which would permit this, in a position in which it lies almost against the panel.
It is clear that in view of the restricted possibility to move the crow-bar in said position, forcing is impossible. If the seam is minimal, accordingly almost absent, then the tip of the crow-bar even cannot penetrate into it and slides off. In the second case it is provided that the firt section to be mounted on the frame is L-shaped such that in closed position of the panel its freely extending longitudinal strip is present between the panel and the freely extending longitudinal strip of the second section which can be mounted upon the panel. According to a simple embodiment in both cases can be provided, that the second section comprises two parallel longitudinal strips which are interconnected by an intermediate strip inclined at an obtuse angle with respect to both longitudinal strips.
Moreover the protection device with a panel which is pivotable with respect to the frame can be made such that both sections are L-shaped, in which case a longitudinal strip of the second section to be mounted on the frame can be connected to the side of the frame turned away from the panel such that the freely extending longitudinal strip extends towards the panel at a distance from the side of the frame adjacent to the panel.
The advantage of said embodiment is that only one and the same type of section shape can be applied for both sections.
The sections usually are attached by means of screws which can be inserted through holes provided in the attachable longitudinal strip. To prevent that they can be loosened by unauthorized persons screws can be used to this end which by their special head shape can only be rotated in the direction to secure.
According to the invention the sections, however, can be made such that in the closed position of the panel the screw heads are not acces- sible.
With a panel pivotable with respect to the frame this can be achiev ed in that the second section to be attached to the frame and the first section to be attached to the panel is U-shaped, such that the legs of the U are turned towards the first or second section respectively, the leg turned towards the frame or the bottom of the U, respectively, are attachable to the frame or panel, respectively, and the freely extending edge strip of the first and second section, respectively, can be taken up between the legs of the second or first section, respectively.
With a panel which is shiftable with respect to the frame this can be achieved in that the first section to be attached to the frame or the second section to be attached to the panel, respectively, is U-shaped such that the legs of the U are turned towards the second or first section, respectively, the bottom of the U or the leg of the U turned towards the panel is attachable to the frame or panel, respectively, and the freely extending edge strip of the secot-d or first section, respec¬ tively, can be taken up between the legs of the first or second section, respectively (fig. 7).
In this connection the best protection is obtained if both sections are U-shaped. The sections preferably extend over the entire clear seam of a frame such as the height of the post and/or the width of a sill.
Subsequently the invention will be further elucidated with the aid of some examples.
Figure 1 shows a cross section through a first embodiment of the protection device according to the invention, applied to a pivotable window or a pivotable door.
Figure 2 shows a second embodiment. Figure 3 shows a third embodiment. Figure 4 shows a fourth embodiment. Figure 5 shows a fifth embodiment.
Figure 6 shows an embodiment of the protection device applied to a shiftable door.
Figure 7 shows a second embodiment for a shiftable door.
In Fig. 1 a pivotable door (or window) 1 is shown, which by means of hinges 2 is connected to a door case 3,4. At the outer side of door 1 and frame post 4 the protection device 5 has been applied, comprising a turned section 6 or angular profile mounted upon the door 1 and a section 7 mounted upon the frame post 4.
Leg 8 of section 6 is attached e.g. by screws to door 1; leg 9 of section 6 extends perpendicular to leg 8 and in closed position of door 1 extends closely along frame post 4. Section 6 covers in this way the seam between door I and frame post 4.
Moreover on frame post 4 is connected leg 10 of section 7; this section 7 has moreover a leg 11, which extends parallel to leg 10, but is displaced with respect to it_ The two legs are interconnected by the inclined portion 12.
In closed position of door 1 leg 11 of section 7 now covers the leg 9 of section 6, leg 11 extending therewith far into the inner corner between legs 8 and 9 of section 10. Said configuration has the advantageous result in closed positon of door 1, that in the seam between leg 11 and section 6 in the said inner corner there is little to no splace to insert e.g. a crow-bar. If this would be tried nevertheless, the crow-bar has to extend closely along the door 1 more or less parallel to it. Due to this the space to move is very restricted, so that no lever function of a value worth mentioning can be generated with the crow-bar,
In Figure 2 another embodiment is shown in which the section 13 attached to the frame post 4 differs from the one of Figure 1. This section 13 as well as section 6 is an angular profile having its leg 14 connected to the outerside of the frame post 4 and its leg 5 extending towards section 6 and covering its leg 9. Figure 3 shows again another embodiment in which an U-shaped section 16 is connected to the frame post. Through holes 17 in leg 18 the screws can be fastened by means of which leg 19 is attached. Advantage of said embodiment is that said screws in the closed position of the door no longer are accessible so that they cannot be removed by unauthorized persons.
In Figure 4 an embodiment is shown in which an U-shaped section 20 is attached upon door 1. Advantage of said embodiment is that the connecting screws of said section extending through the base 21 of said section are not accessible in the closed position of the door. This U-section 20 may cooperate with a section 11 as shown in figure 1.
Figure 5 shows an embodiment in which on door 1 as well as on frame post 4 an U-section 22 and 23, respectively, of the same type are connected. In the closed position of the door the connecting screws of both sections 22, 23 therewith are not accessible. A further advantage is that the two sections correspond. If both are provided with the same holes for attachment (such as e.g. holes 24 as well as holes in the base 25 and in leg 36) the protection device can be composed from one and the same section.
Finally in Figure 6 the protection device is applied to a shiftable door 27, which is shiftable with respect to frame 28. Leg 29 of angular section 30 is mounted on frame 28. Leg 31 of section 32 is mounted on shiftable door 27. Leg 33 of section 29 extends closely along shiftable door 27 and in closed position is covered by leg 34 of section 32. With this application as well there is too little space between the sections 32 and 30 to insert a crow-bar.
In the same way as the embodiment of Figure 5 the protection device at a shiftable door may comprise two U-shaped sections 35,36 as shown in Figure 7. Bottom 37 of section 36 therewith is connected to frame 28 and leg 38 of section 35 is attached to shiftable door 27. With this embodiment as well the connecting screws -are not accessible in closed position of the panel.
