Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method for producing dispersion-strengthened copper moldings and an apparatus for carrying out the method.
- Dispersion-strengthened materials based on copper are of great technical interest for applications in which the combination of the properties of high heat resistance and high electrical conductivity or thermal conductivity is required, such as e.g. in the field of electrical engineering and welding and automotive engine technology. Nevertheless, these materials have not gained any significant importance in practice to date. The main reasons for this are that the powder metallurgical manufacturing processes usually used for these materials are not efficient enough. For example, the production of the oxide dispersion-strengthened material Cu-Al2O3 by the method of internal oxidation leads to a semi-finished product, which due to its low ductility can only be further machined to give molded parts. With this method of operation, however, the actual economic advantage of powder metallurgy production near the final shape is lost without the consequent major loss of material.
- the present invention is based on the object of specifying a rational method for producing dispersion-strengthened copper molded parts on the melting path and an apparatus for carrying out the method.
- the method according to the invention permits the rational production of molded parts or near-net-shape parts with consequent little material loss on the melting path.
- the parts produced also have good material properties because the problem of gravity can be overcome satisfactorily.
- the inventors started from the idea that a uniform distribution of fine dispersoids in a molten metal matrix is easiest to achieve if the disperse phase can be generated in situ in the melt via precipitation reactions.
- the prerequisite for this, however, is that the dispersoid nucleation takes place homogeneously and the critical nucleus radius remains small.
- the intermediate compounds AlB2, TiB2, ZrB2, HfB2, VB2, NbB2 and CrB2 always separate from a copper melt with homogeneous nucleation and very small critical seed radii, whereby diverse dispersoid forms such as rod-shaped, fibrous and angular dispersoids can arise.
- the formation of the stable dispersoid dispersion could be determined in a wide saturation range of the specified element additions. Due to the low melting temperature and a relatively high selected supersaturation, the increase in gravity can be delayed over a longer period. The tendency to increase gravity is already low in the elements specified in claim 4 due to the small difference in density of the borides formed to copper (in the case of HfB2 there is no significant difference), since the borides float more or less in the melt.
- this is solved by molding the melts between a punch and a die, a good degree of mold filling being achieved.
- the required device is simple to carry out and the melt can be solidified at the same time with the molding by the stamp.
- the solidified parts have at least the near-net shape and can be reworked in any way or used as a raw material for semi-finished products.
- the processing of the melt according to the invention is easy to control and can be automated without further ado, for which the arrangement specified in claim 14 is suitable.
- High-quality copper molded parts resulted from the use of materials such as hot-work steels and materials based on molybdenum, tungsten or hard metal for the press die and the stamp.
- melt material in the mold in the form of a powder compact of the appropriate composition.
- melt material in the mold in the form of a powder compact of the appropriate composition.
- molded parts of small dimensions can be produced or an additional melting device can be dispensed with, the melting, molding and solidification being able to be carried out in one mold block.
- molded parts as specified in claim 11, can be produced efficiently, with the possibility of using gold or silver instead of copper.
- melts which are supersaturated with boron or boride-forming elements of groups IVA, VA and VIA of the periodic table and / or aluminum are used as melts .
- one or more systems of the compositions Cu-AlB2, Cu-TiB2, Cu-ZrB2, Cu-HfB2, Cu-VB2, Cu-NbB2 or Cu-CrB2 are used as melt systems.
- the supersaturation of the melts ie the material to be melted on boron or the boride-forming elements or aluminum, is set up in such a way that a homogeneous boride dispersion suddenly forms in the melt, which is overheated at a maximum of 300 ° C.
- a stable, homogeneous boride dispersion of various dispersoid forms with rod-shaped, fibrous or even angular dispersoids, which arise with homogeneous nucleation and very low critical nucleus radii, can develop within wide supersaturation limits.
- the supersaturation of stoichiometric additives of the type mentioned can be selected such that between 1% by volume and 35% by volume of boride dispersion embedded in the copper matrix results.
- the boride-forming elements and / or aluminum listed above are preferably added in such a way that borides of 2% by volume to 14% by volume form in the melt.
- the copper melts with the listed boride-forming elements are also preferably melted when the melt is overheated between 5 ° C and 15 ° C.
- the melting process for producing the melts explained above is schematically outlined in FIG. 1a.
- the melting material is located in a crucible with perforated brick 2, the lower outlet opening of which is surrounded by an induction coil is closed with a plug rod 1.
- the boron reacts with the boride-forming elements in the melt, which is supersaturated with boron and these elements, to form intermediate compounds, and the desired sudden dispersoid formation occurs in the melt.
- the stopper rod 1 has been lifted upwards, and until the stopper rod is lowered into the outlet opening, a metered amount of melt flows into a casting mold provided as a pressing die 3 and arranged below the perforated brick.
- the bottom of the press die has an ejector 6, which is designed in the exemplary embodiment in the form of an ejection stamp and can be moved in the vertical direction and closes the bottom of the press die 3 during casting.
- the press die is hollow-cylindrical. In addition, however, a wide variety of hollow shapes are conceivable depending on the molded part to be produced.
- a punch 4 is lowered from above into the press die 3 filled with the melt and, for this purpose, pressurized with a pressure of about 5 bar to 7o bar, so that the dispersoid-containing melt is formed into a molded part 5 under the pressure becomes.
- the molded part 5 is made using measures customary in melting technology, e.g. with the support of the rapid solidification by water cooling, brought to solidification and ejected in the work step indicated in FIG. 1d after lifting the plunger 4 by moving the ejector 6 upwards from the press die 3.
- Hot-work steels and preferably powder metallurgy materials based on molybdenum or tungsten or materials made of hard metal should be used as the material for the stamp and the press die.
- the molds or matrices can also be arranged in a carousel which receives the molds in order to fill them with melt step by step under a preferably fixed metering device and then under a preferably also fixed arrangement with stamps to give molded parts to squeeze.
- 2 schematically shows a corresponding carousel arrangement which has a fixed charging device 8 arranged above the carousel and is rotatably supported on a rotating axis 9.
- Mold blocks 10 are accommodated in the carousel, into which an exactly metered amount of melt 11 is filled with the aid of the charging device 8, if an empty mold block has previously been brought about by the rotation of the carousel and is located below the charging device 8. This can e.g. correspond to the device shown in Fig.1 with perforated brick and plug rod.
- the filled mold block 10 is guided by a corresponding rotation of the carousel under the likewise fixed arrangement with stamp 4.
- the stamp is then pressed into the melt 11 as in FIG. 1c, which rises into the space between the mold and the stamp to form a rapidly solidifying hollow body, which is removed as the molded part 5 after the stamp 4 has solidified and pulled out.
- An ejection ram 6 and an ejection cam 7 arranged underneath serve as a fixed ejection device provided below the carousel and the arrangement with a stamp.
- the charging devices 8a, 8b, 8c shown in FIGS. 3a to 3c are suitable as charging devices.
- Fig.3a the simplest solution is outlined with a plug rod 1 guided in a crucible 2 'and closing its outlet opening during the melting process.
- An induction coil 12 surrounding the crucible generates the melting temperature for melting the melting material introduced into the crucible.
- FIG. 4 shows a second exemplary embodiment according to the invention, in which the melt is generated directly in the mold block 10 or the press die. This enables fast production of molded parts through direct current passage.
- the mold block 10 made of a material with low electrical conductivity is, as indicated in FIG. 4 a, charged with a powder compact 13, which can be produced as explained above.
- a mold block 1O contains a cylindrical recess for receiving melt 11. To the bottom of this recess extends a guided through the bottom of the mold block 1O movable ejector pin 6 ', which can be pretensioned by an indicated spring at its end protruding from the mold block and the recess seals down for the melt in block 10.
- the stamp comprises the round rod 4a to be pressed into the melt 11, which passes through the inside specifies knife of the pipe section to be produced, and an upper stamp part 4b. This has a cavity with a spiral spring accommodated therein and a guide opening for the round rod 4a provided below the spring.
- the underside of the round rod 4a bumps against the ejection pin 6 ', the diameter of which is approximately equal to that of the round rod 4a, and presses the pin 6' somewhat downward against the action of its spring.
- the spring in the stamp part 4b is also compressed by the round rod 4a and the underside of the stamp part 4b, which has the same diameter as the block recess, lies here on the surface of the ascending melt, which is thus enclosed between the stamp parts 4a and 4b and the mold block recess is.
- the punch is moved upward, the ejection pin 6 'biased by its compressed spring moving upward and ejecting the finished pipe section 15 shown in FIG. 5B.
- the device of FIG. 5 is suitable for the automated production explained with reference to FIG. 2 and delivers faultless pipe sections in a quick and simple manner.
- any other type of design is also possible, provided that these ensure metering of the melt or the material to be melted, as well as shaping under pressure.

Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for producing dispersion-strengthened copper moldings and an apparatus for carrying out the method.
Dispersion-strengthened materials based on copper are of great technical interest for applications in which the combination of the properties of high heat resistance and high electrical conductivity or thermal conductivity is required, such as e.g. in the field of electrical engineering and welding and automotive engine technology. Nevertheless, these materials have not gained any significant importance in practice to date. The main reasons for this are that the powder metallurgical manufacturing processes usually used for these materials are not efficient enough. For example, the production of the oxide dispersion-strengthened material Cu-Al₂O₃ by the method of internal oxidation leads to a semi-finished product, which due to its low ductility can only be further machined to give molded parts. With this method of operation, however, the actual economic advantage of powder metallurgy production near the final shape is lost without the consequent major loss of material.
More rational manufacturing processes, such as casting, have so far not become known in connection with dispersion-strengthened copper materials. This is due to the fact that it is not possible to evenly suspend the dispersoids such as Al₂O₃ and BeO in a copper melt while avoiding gravity. Also attempts to increase the gravity in the copper melt by a Limiting the effects of ultrasound always had no tangible result.
The present invention is based on the object of specifying a rational method for producing dispersion-strengthened copper molded parts on the melting path and an apparatus for carrying out the method.
This object is solved by the subject matter of
The method according to the invention permits the rational production of molded parts or near-net-shape parts with consequent little material loss on the melting path. The parts produced also have good material properties because the problem of gravity can be overcome satisfactorily.
The inventors started from the idea that a uniform distribution of fine dispersoids in a molten metal matrix is easiest to achieve if the disperse phase can be generated in situ in the melt via precipitation reactions. The prerequisite for this, however, is that the dispersoid nucleation takes place homogeneously and the critical nucleus radius remains small. It was found that this is the case for the supersaturated substance systems specified in
The formation of the stable dispersoid dispersion could be determined in a wide saturation range of the specified element additions. Due to the low melting temperature and a relatively high selected supersaturation, the increase in gravity can be delayed over a longer period. The tendency to increase gravity is already low in the elements specified in
Since the dispersoids in the melt do not agglomerate and hardly coarsen, the further processing of the melts by casting into molded parts is in principle suitable. However, due to the low fluidity of the melts, which is related to the high viscosity caused by the strong supersaturation and low overheating, this cannot be done by any of the usual casting processes.
According to the invention, this is solved by molding the melts between a punch and a die, a good degree of mold filling being achieved. The required device is simple to carry out and the melt can be solidified at the same time with the molding by the stamp. The solidified parts have at least the near-net shape and can be reworked in any way or used as a raw material for semi-finished products.
The processing of the melt according to the invention is easy to control and can be automated without further ado, for which the arrangement specified in
If you summarize the advantages of the melt composition used with those of processing the melt into molded parts, the advantages of high productivity, high structural quality, shape accuracy and surface quality with optimal material utilization and flexible production result.
High-quality copper molded parts resulted from the use of materials such as hot-work steels and materials based on molybdenum, tungsten or hard metal for the press die and the stamp.
With a pressing pressure between 5 bar and 70 bar, a particularly fine-grained solidification of the copper matrix can be guaranteed. A small stoichiometric excess of boride-forming elements produces an additional hardening effect.
For many applications, it is advisable to meter the melt or to specify the melt material in the mold in the form of a powder compact of the appropriate composition. In particular, molded parts of small dimensions can be produced or an additional melting device can be dispensed with, the melting, molding and solidification being able to be carried out in one mold block.
According to the invention, a wide variety of molded parts, as specified in

In all of the exemplary embodiments of the method according to the invention and the device for carrying it out which are explained below with reference to FIGS. 1 to 5, copper melts which are supersaturated with boron or boride-forming elements of groups IVA, VA and VIA of the periodic table and / or aluminum are used as melts . For example, one or more systems of the compositions Cu-AlB₂, Cu-TiB₂, Cu-ZrB₂, Cu-HfB₂, Cu-VB₂, Cu-NbB₂ or Cu-CrB₂ are used as melt systems. The supersaturation of the melts, ie the material to be melted on boron or the boride-forming elements or aluminum, is set up in such a way that a homogeneous boride dispersion suddenly forms in the melt, which is overheated at a maximum of 300 ° C.
A stable, homogeneous boride dispersion of various dispersoid forms with rod-shaped, fibrous or even angular dispersoids, which arise with homogeneous nucleation and very low critical nucleus radii, can develop within wide supersaturation limits. For example, the supersaturation of stoichiometric additives of the type mentioned can be selected such that between 1% by volume and 35% by volume of boride dispersion embedded in the copper matrix results.
Furthermore, in order to further increase the strength of the molded parts, preference is given to working with a small excess proportion of boride-forming elements beyond the stoichiometric composition required for the formation of the borides, this excess proportion being up to 1.5% by weight.
The boride-forming elements and / or aluminum listed above are preferably added in such a way that borides of 2% by volume to 14% by volume form in the melt.
The copper melts with the listed boride-forming elements are also preferably melted when the melt is overheated between 5 ° C and 15 ° C.
In addition to melts with copper, those with the metals silver and gold can also be used, the behavior of gold and silver in these melts towards borides, in particular of titanium and zirconium, resulting in surprising matches of gold and silver with copper.
In the exemplary embodiment of the invention shown in FIG. 1, the melting process for producing the melts explained above is schematically outlined in FIG. 1a. Here, the melting material is located in a crucible with
In the casting work step indicated in FIG. 1b, the
In the step of the melt pressing outlined in FIG. 1c, a
Hot-work steels and preferably powder metallurgy materials based on molybdenum or tungsten or materials made of hard metal should be used as the material for the stamp and the press die.
To automate the manufacturing process outlined in FIG. 1, the molds or matrices can also be arranged in a carousel which receives the molds in order to fill them with melt step by step under a preferably fixed metering device and then under a preferably also fixed arrangement with stamps to give molded parts to squeeze. 2 schematically shows a corresponding carousel arrangement which has a fixed
As soon as the precisely measured amount of melt has been poured in, the filled
The
Nach dem Aufschmelzen fließt die Schmelze mit der homogenen Boriddispersion durch das Tiegelloch in einen darunter angeordneten Formblock 1O (Fig.2) ab.Melting of precisely predeterminable portions of melted material, as outlined in FIGS. 3b and 3c, has proven to be better, in particular for the production of molded parts of small dimensions. To obtain the melted portions, e.g. powder is produced by separately spraying copper-titanium melts or copper-zirconium melts and copper-boron melts, which are then mixed and pressed into compacts of the required weight. According to Fig.3b such a
In the floating melt process outlined in FIG. 3c, with a floating melt coil 12 'surrounding the melt powder 13' resulting from the powder compact, the floating melt with the corresponding homogeneous boride dispersions flows into the mold block after the coil current has been switched off.
An
Die Vorrichtung der Fig.5 eignet sich für die anhand Fig.2 erläuterte automatisierte Fertigung und liefert auf schnelle und einfache Weise einwandfreie Rohrstücke.5 shows a further exemplary embodiment in the form of a melt press device, which is specially designed for the production of pipes. A mold block 1O contains a cylindrical recess for receiving
In addition to the explained devices for melting and shaping, any other type of design is also possible, provided that these ensure metering of the melt or the material to be melted, as well as shaping under pressure.
