Abstract

A small radio clock (11), in particular one that can be configured as a wrist watch, is to be equipped, despite the unfavourable spatial conditions, with a receiver antenna (15) of sufficient power. For this purpose, the antenna coil (17) is arranged in the region of at least one side wall of the wrist-watch casing (14), preferably penetrated by an antenna-rod core (16) in the form of a moulding or casting of plastic having embedded ferrite or soft magnetic particles. The core (16) can be constructed as a U- or O-shaped part of the watch casing (14) and accommodate the watch (13) in its interior (20). <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a small radio clock according to the preamble of claim 1. This can be a wristwatch or a watch worn in some other way, for example on a piece of clothing, and for example a small alarm clock or a small style fireplace clock.

R. Bermbach und M. Lobjinski "Neue Funkuhren aus dem Institut für Datentechnik" in FUNKUHREN, herausgegeben von W. Hilberg, Mitte von Seite 170).The JUNGHANS radio-controlled clocks in the form of table or wall clocks with features as described in more detail in EP-OS 0 180 155 have quickly become market leaders. In the case of small clocks, however, it is problematic to also accommodate a long-wave antenna of sufficient sensitivity for the reception of the telegrams transmitted by radio in the small available interior of the watch case. Even without taking this special problem into account, the realization of a radio clock on the order of a wristwatch was not considered realistic by experts (see R. Bermbach and M. Lobjinski "New Radio Clocks from the Institute for Data Technology" in FUNKUHREN, edited by W. Hilberg , Middle of page 170).

It is therefore the object of the present invention to create a small radio clock (which can also be designed as a wristwatch) with a sufficient receiving antenna.

This object is essentially achieved in that the clock is designed according to the characterizing part of claim 1.

According to this solution, the antenna is no longer attached separately inside the watch case next to the movement capsule behind the dial, as is the case with the wall and table clocks on the market. Rather, according to this solution, an antenna is incorporated directly into the watch case, namely integrated into the case edge (depending on the case material on the inside or the outside of the case wall). In this case, an antenna coil can be arranged coaxially with the housing, using the ferromagnetic parts of the housing and the work as components of a coil core which are displaced more or less from the coil center in the direction of the effective field components. However, more powerful antennas result if the antenna coil is carried directly by a core made of ferrite powder or soft magnetic particles which is shaped in accordance with the housing design and whose outer contour can be adapted to the design requirements of the housing.

  • Fig. 5 einen als Antennenkern ausgebildeten Gehäuseboden und
Additional alternatives and further developments as well as further features and advantages of the invention result from the further claims and, also taking into account the explanations in the summary, from the following description of the preferred implementation examples which are sketched in a strictly simplified manner and not quite to scale and which are limited to the essentials solution according to the invention. It shows:

  • Antenna on both long sides of the watch case,

  • 4 shows an example of the installation of a clockwork in an antenna core equipped eccentrically with the coil,
  • 5 shows a housing base designed as an antenna core and
  • Fig. 6 is a clock with an antenna coil arranged concentrically to the work.

The small radio-controlled watch 11 sketched in FIG. 1 in top view can be designed with a digital or - as shown - analog time display and, for example, as a wristwatch, that is to say with a bracelet 12 connected to it, the housing 13 receiving the time telegram receiver 14. The magnetic antenna 15 has a coil 17 penetrated by a highly permeable core 16. In the interest of optimal performance of the antenna 15, this is arranged in or next to the side area of the watch dial 18 (for digital or analog time display) in the direction of the greatest longitudinal extent of the housing 14, oriented transversely to the clockwork (numerical wave) axis. The antenna coil 17 can be located inside the housing 14 if the housing 14 - at least in the vicinity of the antenna 15 - consists of electrically non-conductive material. Otherwise, the antenna 15 according to FIG. 1 is arranged next to the dial 18 outside on the watch housing 14. The antenna core 16 can extend over the longitudinal extent of the housing 14 into the connection areas of the bracelet 12 in order to achieve a great length and thus a sensitive antenna 15. 1, the housing 14 and the connection area of the bracelet 12 are then expediently designed in such a way that a housing integration of the antenna core 16 results; whereby it can be quite interesting not to choose a symmetrical structure, on the one hand not to unnecessarily increase the total volume of the clock 11 and on the other hand to advertise effectively that it is a radio-controlled wristwatch 11.

However, the antenna 15 can also be divided into two ferrite rods as the cores 16 for coils 17, in order to achieve a more compact arrangement for the integration of the antenna 15. According to FIG. 2, two antenna coils 17 connected in phase are distributed over two cores 16 on the two long sides of the watch case 14. 3, the rod cores 16 can also be arranged at an angle to one another in or on the watch case 14 (depending on the material thereof) and can be of different lengths, for example in order to improve the directional characteristics of a ferrite rod antenna that are not desired per se in the direction of better all-round reception influence (as described in detail in EP-OS 0 242 717).

Particularly interesting realization possibilities from a technical and design point of view arise if, according to FIG. 4 or FIG. 5, the watch housing 14 itself is designed as the antenna core 16, for example is made of pressed material with injected ferrite grains or soft magnetic particles. This housing core 16 can then be U-shaped in plan view or O-shaped according to FIG. 4 or also according to FIG. 5 as a flat pot, that is to say with a continuous bottom 19. In any case, the interior 20 accommodates the clockwork 13 located under the dial 18. A single antenna 17 or a plurality thereof can be wound around a core extension 22 which extends in the direction of the radio field component 21 to be received, preferably embedded in a core incision 23 which acts as a winding body, but the coil 17 can also coaxially around one 5, where the core 16 is formed as a tube piece which is very short in relation to the diameter on the side of the watch case 14 facing away from the dial 18. FIG. 6 shows an arrangement according to FIG. 5 in a top view of the watch case 14; whereby instead of the tubular core (16), which is very short in relation to its diameter, simply coaxial windings can also be provided as the antenna coil 17, if the ferromagnetic parts of the work 13 and the housing 14 that are within the winding diameter in the projection of the field component 21 are already sufficient Provide reception sensitivity of the antenna 15.
