The present invention relates to an antenna system for a radio receiver which can be carried close to the body.
One of the moments that enable good reception is the signal emitted by the antenna to the electronic part of the radio receiver. The larger this signal, the better the reception. This signal is larger if the dimensions of the antenna can be large. In portable radio receivers, especially those worn on the body, the antenna can only be small because it is housed in the housing of the receiver. Such an antenna naturally only emits a weak useful signal. The distance between such a weak useful signal and the noise is then not great, and the quality of the reception is correspondingly low.
The object of the present invention is to propose an antenna system for a radio receiver which can be carried close to the body and which emits a signal which is greater than that signal which the conventional antenna systems deliver in the said radio receivers.
In the antenna system of the type mentioned at the outset, this object is achieved according to the invention as defined in the characterizing part of claim 1.
Exemplary embodiments of the present invention are explained in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawing. It shows:
Fig. 1 shows the electrical circuit diagram of the input section of a radio receiver, and
Fig. 2 shows the arrangement of the individual antennas of the antenna system on the receiver board.
The present antenna system contains two antennas 1 and 2 (FIG. 1) which are coupled to one another. The type of this coupling will be described in detail in connection with FIG. 2. Each of these antennas 1 and 2 can be a frame or a ferrite antenna. The winding of the first antenna 2 is grounded on the one hand and connected to a capacitive matching network on the other hand. This network contains a trimmer 3 and a further capacitor 4, which are connected in series. The winding of the first antenna 2 is connected to the trimmer 3 and the other capacitor 4 is grounded at the other end. The midpoint between these two capacitors 3 and 4 is connected to the input amplifier 7 of the receiver.
The further stages (not shown) of the radio receiver follow the input amplifier 7. The winding of the second antenna is not connected to the electronic part of the radio receiver. Only one tuning capacitor 5 is connected in parallel to the winding of the second antenna 1.
In the exemplary embodiment of the present invention shown in FIG. 2, the first antenna 2 is designed as a ferrite antenna and the second antenna 1 as a loop antenna. These antennas 1 and 2 are attached to the board 6 of the receiver so that they are perpendicular to each other. The loop antenna is parallel to the longitudinal direction of the circuit board 6 and the ferrite antenna 2 is arranged parallel to the transverse direction of the receiver circuit board 6.
The magnetic component of the electromagnetic field induces a current in the ferrite antenna 2, which is supplied to the antenna amplifier 7 via the network 3, 4.
The impedance matching of the ferrite antenna 2 to the input amplifier 7 takes place in the capacitive reactance network 3, 4, by adjusting the trimmer 3 to the desired value. The current, which is also induced in the loop antenna 1 by the electromagnetic field at the same time, is not supplied to the receiver. This current flow in the loop antenna 1, which closes via the tuning capacitor 5, generates a secondary radiation field, the vector of the magnetic component of this radiation field being in such a position due to the described arrangement of the two antennas 1 and 2 that the direction with the direction of the vector of the magnetic component of the primary electromagnetic field, which acts on the ferrite antenna 2, coincides.
As a result, field amplification occurs in the area of the ferrite antenna 2, and the ferrite antenna 2 can emit a larger useful signal. The suitable phase relationship of the two antennas 1 and 2 to one another is given by their mutual arrangement on the receiver board 6. The coupling between these two antennas 1 and 2 can be optimally adjusted using the tuning capacitor 5.
The function of the two antennas 1 and 2 is complementary and they can be interchanged. However, two ferrite antennas or loop antennas can also be used in the manner described. In such cases, it proves disadvantageous that the antenna systems have a somewhat more pronounced directional characteristic than those antenna systems which have different individual antennas.
The interaction of the two antennas proves
when the recipient is worn on the body, as particularly cheap. The body, which can be regarded as a polarization transformer, reflects the magnetic component of a vertically polarized electromagnetic field back in the tangential direction. The position of the individual antennas is therefore ideal on the body, since they always stand correctly with the magnetic component of the electromagnetic field. A pronounced directional characteristic is then no longer noticeable, and this ensures good reception in every body position.
In summary, it can be said that the antenna system described brings about a significant improvement in the sensitivity of radio receivers. Particularly when the receiver is worn on the body, a substantial improvement in the reception of vertically polarized electromagnetic waves is achieved.
