- This invention relates to pipe crimping apparatus for crimping the joints of pipe connections of the type having non-flux, non-solder joints such as those described in my WO-A-89/03494, published 20/4/89 in which pipe ends are provided adjacent to their ends with a collar of increased diameter over which an end of a pipe connector is fitted, said pipe connector end having been swaged to a complimentarily dimensioned diameter to fit over the pipe end, the outer end of said swaged end then being crimped over the side of the collar remote from the end of the pipe.
- the pipe ends are straight, and pipe connectors are provided in which a collar is pre-fitted into the or each swaged end of each pipe connector, and the swayed end partially crimped around said collar to retain it in position, the swaged end being fully crimped after the swayed end is fitted over one end of a pipe.

- Movement means is provided to cause the lever 20 to urge the walls 18 towards the elements 16 so to crimp an inner side, or an outer side, or both inner and outer sides of a swaged end of a pipe connector to a pipe end when such is located therein.

- the cylinder is a bore provided in the handle 10 adjacent to the members 12, 14 and having an axis at right angles to the handle 10.
- the piston floats ill the cylinder and is movable in response to fluid being fed thereinto through a narrow bore 44 from a supply of fluid fed to the end of the handle 10 remote from the jaw members 12, 14.
- a second piston and cylinder arrangement 46 is provided as shown and serves, when extended, to urge the bolt 30 into tight abutment with the cheek 38 of member 12 so to retain it in tight abutment with member 12.
- the cylinder of the arrangement 46 is a bore 56 lengthwise of the handle 10 and the piston of the arrangement 46 is formed in two parts, a first part 48 adjacent to the supply end of the fluid and a second part 50 to which the knob 32 is secured as shown.

- a spindle 52 projecting towards the first part 48 and provided on an inside face of the second part 50 is in registry with a complementary bore 54 in the first part 48.
- the spindle 52 By moving the knob 32 into the extension 40, the spindle 52, which will have fully emerged from the bore 54, will be out of registry and in front of the inside face of the first part 48. Entry of fluid from the supply, will cause the first part 48 to abut the spindle 52 to cause the second part 50 to urge the bolt 30 tightly against the cheek 38. After the fluid so acts it then flows through bore 44 to the first piston and cylinder arrangement 42.

Abstract
Claims (10)
- Dispositif de sertissage d'un tube, comprenant des moyens de maintien, pour entrer en prise de façon externe et pour tenir un joint à former par façonnage d'une extrémité d'un connecteur de tube sur une extrémité de tube, les moyens de maintien étant allongés et formés par deux organes de mâchoire (12, 14), chacun ayant une concavité interne déterminant ensemble une zone de blocage sensiblement cylindrique, un outil de sertissage (18) mobile par rapport à la zone de blocage et des moyens pour provoquer un déplacement de l'outil par rapport à la zone de blocage, caractérisé en ce que :(a) les organes de mâchoire (12, 14) sont dans un rapport de pivotement avec une zone de serrage (16) prévue à une extrémité des moyens de maintien et sont formés par un élément périphérique interne (16),(b) l'outil (18) est sensiblement cylindrique, s'étend axialement dans la zone de blocage pour être poussé en direction de la zone de serrage (16) lors d'un actionnement axial des moyens de déplacement, et est formé en deux parties qui correspondent aux organes de mâchoire (12, 14), chaque partie étant fixée à son organe de mâchoire respectif (12, 14) pour un déplacement longitudinal par rapport à ce dernier et limité, chaque partie de l'outil étant une paroi arquée (18) qui fait saillie au-delà de l'autre extrémité des moyens de maintien et qui est rappelée par ressort vers une position externe, et(c) les moyens de déplacement comportent un levier (20) monté à l'extrémité externe des parois (18), une extrémité du levier (20) étant en forme de fourche et agencée pour entrer en prise avec les extrémités en saillie des parois (18) afin de provoquer un déplacement des parois (18) vers l'élément (16).
- Dispositif suivant la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce que les extrémités en saillie des parois (18) sont munies chacune d'un collet externe (26) pour recouvrir leurs organes de mâchoire (12, 14) respectifs, la distance entre les collets (26) et leurs organes de mâchoire (12, 14) respectifs déterminant l'importance du déplacement longitudinal.
- Dispositif suivant l'une ou l'autre des revendications 1 et 2, caractérisé en ce que le levier (20) peut pivoter en vue d'un mouvement de rotule.
- Dispositif suivant l'une quelconque des revendications 1, 2 et 3, caractérisé en ce que les moyens pour déplacer le levier (20) sont un agencement de cylindre et de piston (42) actionné hydrauliquement, pneumatiquement ou hydropneumatiquement.
- Dispositif suivant l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 4, caractérisé en ce qu'il est un instrument tenu à la main et ayant une poignée allongée (10) dont une extrémité est munie des moyens de maintien.
- Dispositif suivant la revendication 5, caractérisé en ce qu'un organe de mâchoire (14) est fixe par rapport à la poignée (10) et en ce que l'autre organe (12) y est articulé.
- Dispositif suivant la revendication 6, caractérisé en ce que les organes de mâchoire (12, 14) sont rappelés à l'écart par ressort.
- Dispositif suivant la revendication 7, caractérisé en ce qu'un agencement de cheville (30) est prévu pour pousser l'organe articulé (12) dans une position fermée avec l'autre organe (14), à 1'encontre du rappel.
- Dispositif suivant la revendication 8, caractérisé en ce que la cheville (30) peut être fixée dans ladite position poussée.
- Dispositif suivant l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 3, caractérisé en ce que les moyens pour déplacer le levier sont constitués par un câble Bowden (62).
