Printer, comprising a chassis (10), a beam-shaped platen (40), a print head (36) which is adjustable relative to said platen in the line direction, and a stop (16) which is fixed on the chassis for fixing the printing position of a recording medium (18) which can be inserted between the print head (36) and the platen (40), characterized in that the stop (16) is assigned a holding device (20) for retaining the recording medium (18) in its printing position, and in that the beam-shaped platen (40) and the print head (36) are arranged on a pivoting frame (42) which is mounted on the chassis (10) so as to be pivotable about an axle (44), lying parallel to the platen (40) with spacing therefrom, and is adjustable by means of a pivoting drive (62 to 72; 76 to 86).
  2. Printer according to Claim 1, characterized in that the holding device comprises a clamping device having at least one clamping element (30) which is adjustable by means of a clamping drive (22, 26) relative to a stop strip (16) which supports the recording medium (18).
  3. Printer according to Claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the print head (36) is arranged on a carrier (52) which is guided on the pivoting frame (42) so as to be adjustable parallel to the platen (40), and in that an electric motor (54), which drives the carrier (52), is arranged on the pivoting frame (42) near to the pivot axle (44) or on the side of the pivot axle (44) remote from the platen (40).
  4. Printer according to one of Claims 1 to 3, characterized in that a toothed segment (72) is arranged on the pivoting frame (42) near to the platen (40), which toothed segment is curved in the manner of a circular arc around the pivot axle (44) and meshes with a gearwheel (70) which is mounted on the chassis (10) and is driven by a stepping motor (62).
  5. Printer according to one of Claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the print head carrier is a rocker (76) which is mounted on the pivoting frame (42) so as to be pivotable about an axle (78) aligned perpendicular to its pivot axle (44) and substantially parallel to the recording surface, and in that the platen (40) is curved in the manner of a circular arc around the rocker axle (78).
