Abstract

Le générateur de cartes topographiques vidéo décrit a été étudié et mis au point de façon à satisfaire les besoins de centres de présentation radar (à la fois militaires et civils) qui utilisent la triade traditionnelle constituée par les signaux vidéo, la bascule électronique et les données angulaires. La fonction spécifique de ce générateur consiste à produire des signaux vidéo qui, lorsqu'ils sont mélangés avec le radar vidéo, permettent la présentation sur la même unité de visualisation à la fois des cibles et des données de référence géographique. Les systèmes concurrentiels normalement offerts sur le marché pour répondre aux mêmes besoins peuvent être classés en deux catégories: les systèmes opto-électroniques analogiques et les systèmes numériques. Les premiers (qui utilisent une technologie plus ancienne incluant des pièces mécaniques mobiles, des unités optiques de focalisation et la conversion opto-électronique finale) se caractérisent, à part leur coût élevé et leur faible niveau de précision, par une rigidité d'utilisation soutenue, dès lors que leur fonctionnement nécessite l'utilisation de diapositives de préparation particulièrement complexe avec des appareils de photoreproduction spéciaux. Les systèmes de la deuxième catégorie, bien qu'ayant en partie surmonté les inconvénients de la première catégorie, ne s'illustrent pas par une grande flexibilité d'utilisation. En fait, les données des cartes topographiques sont généralement stockées dans un support magnétique (cassettes ou autres) produit par le même fabriquant en même temps que la mise au point du système et ne sont par conséquent pas modifiables par l'utilisateur. La nouveauté de l'appareil ci-décrit réside essentiellement dans sa capacité à surmonter ces limites, ce qui permet à l'utilisateur de construire et de modifier par lui-même les données des cartes topographiques vidéo au moyen d'un clavier approprié qui permet une entrée directe dans la mémoire.
