Definitions
- the invention relates to a safety device for a swirl projectile detonator according to the preamble of claim 1.
- Malfunctions can result from the uneven masses of the U-shaped retaining ring.
- the launch acceleration and the swirl can tilt the retaining ring during the return and opening stroke in the radial groove on the housing so that the legs prevent the rotor from absorbing the swirl necessary for the function.
- the retaining ring can jam in its rearward position due to an unintentional impact and lock the rotor securely. In both cases, explosive unexploded ordnance exists after the launch.
- the object of the invention is to provide a swirl projectile detonator consisting of a few parts, which functions safely when the swirl projectile is fired, in which the rotor is released and which, even after rough handling, ensures that the rotor is countered.
- Essential for the invention are the retaining ring which bears against the rotor with radial preload and which, by means of its conical seat on the centering mandrel, non-positively fixes the rotor in the igniter housing.
- the retaining ring allows the rotor to be countered, for example in drop tests with reduced requirements up to approx. 6000g or impact loads when handling a projectile.
- the almost closed retaining ring supports the rotor on the igniter housing in the radial direction.
- the inertial forces of the rotor are diverted from the retaining ring into the igniter housing.
- Adverse deformations of the retaining ring cannot occur due to its relatively high section modulus. Such deformations can not be avoided in the U-shaped retaining ring according to DE-OS 20 09 988 due to its substantially low resistance moments in its longitudinal direction. Such a deformation of the known retaining ring can lead to the rotor not being unsecured despite existing trigger criteria.
- a securing device 1 provides a retaining ring 2 on a conical centering mandrel 3 within a conical annular space 30 of a detonator housing 7.
- the retaining ring 2 is resiliently pretensioned on the centering mandrel 3 and presses a spherical rotor 5 via an end face 11 into a spherical expansion 20 within a bore 8 of the igniter housing 7.
- the rotor 5 has a detonator 15, an annular groove 4 with the end face 11 and a base 10 and a fixing cone 16 for a securing sleeve 17.
- An annular gap 19 lies between the base 10 and the retaining ring 2.
- the retaining ring 2 is provided with an inner cone 9, a radial surface 51 and with an outer cone 12. It is resiliently biased via a slot 29 (FIG. 2). According to FIG. 2, it has a keyway profile, as a result of which there are inner support tabs 25 with recesses 26 therebetween.
- the support tabs 25 have curved support surfaces 27 corresponding to the annular groove 4.
- a ring 28 carries the support tabs 25, the ring 28 being separated by a slot 29.
- the retaining ring 2 consists of a tough material with a certain initial elasticity corresponding to the width of the slot 29 (Fig. 2) and high breaking strength. Suitable materials are beryllium, aluminum and steel.
- the securing device 1 of a swirl igniter (not shown further) reacts to the launch acceleration acting in the direction of arrow 50 by an axial stroke of the retaining ring 2 into the position according to FIG. 4.
- the retaining ring 2 consists of a beryllium bronze. This material ensures that, due to the centrifugal forces, it lies completely against the cone 13.
- the webs 14 lying between the support tabs 25 are plastically, that is, permanently deformed.
- the rotor 5 released by the holding ring 2 aligns itself in the position shown in FIG. 4 due to its center of gravity, the securing sleeve 17 being pushed back by the fixing cone 16.
- the spherical recesses 20, 21 serve as plain bearings.
- the rotor 5 is locked in the focus shown in this figure by means not shown.
- the ignition needle 18 strikes the detonator 15 in a known manner. Its ignition energy then initiates a transfer charge 52. If a shock is exerted on the safety device 1 according to arrow 50 during a drop test or rough handling, the retaining ring lifts 2 slightly away from the rotor 5 and, after the impact, will resume its position on the rotor 5 as shown in FIG. 1 due to its spring force.
- the securing sleeve 17 ensures that the rotor 5 remains in the safe position according to FIG. 1 in the phase in which the retaining ring 2 is lifted off the rotor.
- the spring-loaded mounting of the rotor 5 by the retaining ring 2 is also advantageous. This creates a gap 49 in that the rotor 5 is pressed into the recess 20 in the igniter housing 7. In the event of shock loads, there is therefore the possibility for the rotor 5 of a spring-damped misalignment within the bore.
- the ignition threshold of the detonator 15 in the case of shock loads is thus significantly lower than in the case of detonators according to the prior art.
- Suitable materials for the retaining ring 2 are aluminum or steel.
- the required material properties are high breaking strength and high toughness.

Abstract
A space-saving securing device (1) provides a radially expandable retaining ring (2) for a swirl projectile detonator, which, while securing the rotor (5), centers it within an igniter housing (7). The retaining ring (2) is held on the rotor (5) in the axial direction via a conical centering mandrel (3). If the launch acceleration and swirl are provided, the retaining ring (2) is axially set back and permanently deformed due to the inertial forces. The rotor (5) is thus unlocked and swivels into an arming position.
Description
The invention relates to a safety device for a swirl projectile detonator according to the preamble of claim 1.
From DE-OS 20 09 988 a rotor fuse for a swirl projectile detonator is known. Both the final acceleration and the swirl are necessary for unlocking. The resulting forces are exerted on a U-shaped, expandable retaining ring. The retaining ring sits in an annular shoulder of the rotor. The sliding plane for the retaining ring is designed to be crowned in the direction of the rotor center. The retaining ring is thus intended to assume a front position offset from a radial groove on the housing side.
Malfunctions can result from the uneven masses of the U-shaped retaining ring. The launch acceleration and the swirl can tilt the retaining ring during the return and opening stroke in the radial groove on the housing so that the legs prevent the rotor from absorbing the swirl necessary for the function.
Furthermore, if the projectile is handled roughly, the retaining ring can jam in its rearward position due to an unintentional impact and lock the rotor securely. In both cases, explosive unexploded ordnance exists after the launch.
From DE-PS 25 39 750 it is known in a swirl projectile detonator to provide a clamp-like securing element as a securing device for a rotor, which consists of two radially curved legs which are connected to one another by an arcuate web. The arched The bridge ensures a constant and even deflection of the two legs with a given projectile twist. This safety device is only aimed at the projectile swirl. A release criterion for the launch pulse is not provided.
The object of the invention is to provide a swirl projectile detonator consisting of a few parts, which functions safely when the swirl projectile is fired, in which the rotor is released and which, even after rough handling, ensures that the rotor is countered.
The solution to this problem can be found in the characterizing features of claim 1.
Advantageous developments of the invention are specified in the subclaims.
Essential for the invention are the retaining ring which bears against the rotor with radial preload and which, by means of its conical seat on the centering mandrel, non-positively fixes the rotor in the igniter housing.
The retaining ring allows the rotor to be countered, for example in drop tests with reduced requirements up to approx. 6000g or impact loads when handling a projectile.
The almost closed retaining ring supports the rotor on the igniter housing in the radial direction. In the event of lateral shock loads, the inertial forces of the rotor are diverted from the retaining ring into the igniter housing. Adverse deformations of the retaining ring cannot occur due to its relatively high section modulus. Such deformations can not be avoided in the U-shaped retaining ring according to DE-OS 20 09 988 due to its substantially low resistance moments in its longitudinal direction. Such a deformation of the known retaining ring can lead to the rotor not being unsecured despite existing trigger criteria.

The
The
If there is an ignition criterion, the

If a swirl is exerted on a projectile in a weapon barrel during acceleration, which does not reach the prescribed height, for example in the case of an almost imposed weapon barrel, then a
The spring-loaded mounting of the
