Abstract

The invention concerns a glazing bar (5) for enclosing a glass window pane (1) on the inside, which glazing bar is burg­lar proof. To obtain such a property the glazing bar has to withstand the forces that are exerted by the window pane. Therefore the glazing bar has a substantial resistance against deflection in the direction perpendicular to the win­dow pane. According to an embodiment, the bar is hollow, has a substantially rectangular section and is provided with a diagonal. According to a second embodiment the bar is provi­ded with an external reïnforcing rib extending substantially in the direction perpendicular to the pane.

Description

  • The present invention relates to a glazing bar for enclosing a glass window pane on the inside.
  • Such glazing bars are generally known.
  • Generally the same material as that from which the frame is manufactured is chosen for the glazing bars that are to be used on the inside of the pane. So for instance glazing bars are made of softwood, hardwood, aluminium, plastic and steel.
  • When window panes held in such frames are employed in rooms which must be burglar-proof, such as is the case for instance with rooms where valuable objects, bank notes or apparatus vulnerable to sabotage are kept, window frames of a robust material are used in order to increase the resistance to break-in as much as possible. Generally aluminium or steel is chosen for this purpose.
  • Nevertheless it can occur that during a burglary attempt such great forces are applied from the outside of the pane that the glazing bars situated on the inside of the pane are pushed inward and access is gained to the protected area. It has to be taken into account here that very hard quality glass has generally already been used in such protected areas. Because of this the pressure exerted against the outside of the glass is transmitted wholly onto the glazing bars. Glazing bars known up until now are generally not capable of resisting such great forces; they become deformed such that the glazing bar comes loose in the clamp connection.
  • This can of course be prevented by applying screw connections or the like at regular intervals along the sides, but this is often not desirable in respect of the attendant extra fitting costs. This also has a disadvantageous effect on the appearance particularly of aluminium frames and glazing bars.
  • The present invention therefore has for its object the provision of a glazing bar which is rigid such that when great forces are exerted against the window pane from outside it will deform either not at all or hardly so.
  • This object is achieved because the glazing bar is embodied such that it has a great resistance to deflection in the direction perpendicular to the window pane.
  • According to a preferred embodiment of the invention the glazing bar is embodied such that it has also a great resistance to torsion.
  • Through these steps it becomes practically imposs­ible to exert such a force from the outside of the glass pane that the glazing bars give way as a result. Thus obtained is a combination of window frame and pane which is burglar-resis­tant.
  • The present invention will be subsequently eluci­dated with reference to the annexed drawings, in which:
    • fig. 1 shows a perspective, schematic view of a frame provided with glazing bars according to the present invention;
    • fig. 2 is a schematic, perspective view broken off along the section II-II of the frame shown in fig.1;
    • fig. 3 shows a sectional view of a second embodiment of the glazing bar according to the present invention;
    • fig. 4 shows a sectional view of a third embodiment of the glazing bar according to the present invention;
    • fig. 5 is a sectional view of a fourth embodiment of the glazing bar according to the present invention; and
    • fig. 6 is a sectional view of a fifth embodiment of the glazing bar according to the present invention.
  • Shown in fig. 1 is a window pane 1 which is mounted in a frame 2. This frame is arranged in a wall 3, which en­closes a burglar-proof room 4. The pane 1 is held in place on the inside, that is, on the side of the room 4, by four glaz­ing bars 5 which are reinforced such that the glazing bars 5 cannot be pressed inward by a force exerted against the pane from the outside.
  • The construction will be further elucidated with reference to fig. 2. In the embodiment shown in fig. 2 the window pane 1 is formed by a double pane, which is formed by two glass plates 6 and 7 having an empty space 8 between them. The empty space is closed off at the sides by a metal spacer with adhesive tape and butylene mastic 9. An opening is arranged in the wall 3 and a window sill 10 is placed on the underside thereof. Fitted at the position of arrangement of the frame are two bars 11 onto which the frame 2 is fixed. The frame 2 is formed by various profile sections 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 which slide together. A glazing bridge 18 is also fitted, which serves as support for the window pane 1. The pane 1 is placed above the glazing bridge 18, which is made of plastic, with the insertion of an adjusting block 19.
  • On the outer side of the pane, between the pane and the profile 14, a flexible sealing profile 20 is fitted which ensures the sealing between the window pane and the frame.
  • On the inside of the pane above the profile 15 is fitted the glazing bar 5 according to the present invention. This glazing bar is enclosed at its bottom by the profile 15, while between the glazing bar 5 and the inside of the pane 1, in this case the glass plate 7, an inner sealing profile 21 is arranged. Such a construction of the frame is also used on the sides of the pane and on the top side of the pane.
  • An essential factor of the glazing bar according to the present invention is that it is embodied such that a pressure force exerted on the outside of the glass pane 1 (indicated in the drawing by an arrow) will not cause any deformation of the glazing bar 5. For this purpose the glazing bar 5 is reinforced, this such that both walls 22 and 23 are embodied with a tapering thickness on their inside. In this way the glazing bar 5 is reinforced such that it cannot be pressed outward. The foot 24 of the glazing bar is also pro­vided with a reinforcement.
  • Instead of the embodiment shown here it is also possible to employ other embodiments of reinforced glazing bars. Some of these embodiments are shown in the fig. 4-6.
  • In the embodiment of the glazing bar 25 shown in fig. 3 a connecting wall 26 is arranged between both vertical walls. This wall also contributes to the strength of the glazing bar. The corners where the vertical walls transpose into the horizontal walls are also reinforced by strengthening ribs 27.
  • The glazing bar 28 shown in fig. 4 is provided with a reinforcing wall 29 which extends diagonally.
  • The glazing bar 30 shown in fig. 5 is assembled from two separate profiles 31 and 32 which are joined to one an­other for example by means of blind rivets 33.
  • The embodiment of the glazing bar shown in fig. 6 is likewise assembled from two separate profiles, whereby the interior corners are reinforced to give the profile the re­quired strength.
  • Finally, it is noted that the embodying means of the glazing bar shown also increase the torsional stiffness of the glazing bar.

Claims (12)

1. Glazing bar for enclosing a glass window pane on the inside, characterized in that said glazing bar is embodied such that it has great resistance against deflection in the direction perpendicular to said pane.
2. Glazing bar as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that said glazing bar is embodied such that it has a great resistance against torsion.
3. Glazing bar as claimed in claim 1 or 2, charac­terized in that said glazing bar is hollow and has a substan­tially rectangular section and that at least one diagonal is arranged.
4. Glazing bar as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3, char­acterized in that said glazing bar is hollow and is provided with a reinforcement extending perpendicularly to the pane.
5. Glazing bar as claimed in any of the claims 1-4, characterized in that said glazing bar is hollow and is pro­vided with rounded corners.
6. Glazing bar as claimed in claim 1 or 2, charac­terized in that said glazing bar is solid.
7. Glazing bar as claimed in any of the preceding claims, characterized in that said glazing bar is provided with an external reinforcing rib extending substantially in the direction perpendicular to the pane.
8. Glazing bar as claimed in any of the preceding claims, characterized in that said glazing bar is manufactured from metal.
9. Glazing bar as claimed in claim 8, characterized in that said glazing bar is manufactured from aluminium.
10. Glazing bar as claimed in any of the claims 1-7, characterized in that said glazing bar is manufactured from plastic.
11. Glazing bar as claimed in claim 10, charac­terized in that said glazing bar is manufactured from fibre reinforced plastic.
12. Glazing bar as claimed in any of the preceding claims, characterized in that said glazing bar is assembled from two profiles.
