Description

The invention relates to a cylinder head for reciprocating internal combustion engines according to the generic features of claim 1.

Such a cylinder head is known for example from US-A-2,863,432. This cylinder head comprises a separate control housing, which essentially serves for the arrangement of control shafts. Tappets interacting with the control shafts for actuating the lift valves for gas exchange channels guided in the cylinder head are arranged in guides of a further part separate from the cylinder head and control housing. This part, which is isolated for each cylinder head of the internal combustion engine, delimits a control chamber, which is used primarily for the arrangement of valve springs, above the top wall of the cylinder head.

The training according to the number of cylinders of the internal combustion engine of individual parts allows the machining of the tappet guides without any problems, but it leads to a considerable construction effort.

The cylinder head described above is equipped with - seen in plan view - rectangular tappets, which are only interact in opposite circumferential parts with guide surfaces of the tappet guide.

Another configuration of a cylinder head with rectangular and / or oval valve lifters is shown in US Pat. No. 4,637,357. The valve tappets are guided over the entire circumference. These circumferentially closed guides are designed as openings in a strip which is connected in one piece above a control chamber integrated in the control housing with a side boundary of the control housing. In order to ensure perfect machining of the closed tappet guides, the bar is arranged in a part that is detachable from the rest of the control housing.

The invention has for its object to develop a generic cylinder head so that structurally integrated guides of the open type with paired opposing guide surfaces are achieved without special effort for the manufacture of the cylinder head in the mold casting.

This object is achieved with the characterizing features of patent claim 1. With the invention, guides of the open type can advantageously be arranged as an integral part of the cylinder head without any special effort. Furthermore, the arrangement according to the invention in conjunction with the open design of the guides gives the advantage of being able to choose the best possible simple machining of the flat or curved guide surfaces. Finally, the arrangement according to the invention of a tappet guide of the open type offers the further advantage of a control chamber which can be produced using the mold casting method in the case of a casting consisting of a cylinder head and control housing.

A further characteristic feature of claim 1 relates to two laterally spaced tappet guides, the wall parts of which are connected between the tappet guides via a connecting web with the side limitation of the control housing or the control chamber. This configuration serves for the transverse stiffening of the control housing which is connected in one piece to the cylinder head and thus for the stiffening of the entire casting. With regard to a cylinder head screw connection which is closely adjacent to the tappet guides and with a small cylinder spacing, the above-described configuration is advantageously effective. The stiffening of the control housing or the entire cylinder head can be further increased according to a further characteristic feature of claim 1 in that a wall part is additionally supported against an approximately cylinder-axial shaft for a spark plug or an injection nozzle, wherein opposite wall parts can also be supported against each other. With the combination of all the characteristic features of claim 1, a cylinder head with an integrated control housing is achieved, which can advantageously be designed free of undercuts on the control housing side for a mold casting and also enables sufficient transverse stiffening.

To supply hydraulic valve lash compensation elements in the valve tappets with lubricating oil of the internal combustion engine, a lubricating oil channel is provided in the side boundary according to claim 3, which is in oil-bearing connection with openings in the adjacent guide surfaces. With one over the A relatively easy to create anti-rotation stop is achieved in the guide surface of the clamping sleeve arranged above.

As already mentioned above, the invention according to claim 1 enables cylinder head and control housing to be produced in one piece in permanent mold casting, the areas for the guide surfaces being equipped with a slight excess for subsequent machining. With the arrangement of relatively narrow, oval plungers in the laterally open guides, their guide surfaces can advantageously be machined using rotating tools. Adjacent guides for valves that are directed differently from one another can also be machined properly.

A cylinder head 1 for a reciprocating piston internal combustion engine, not shown, comprises gas exchange channels 2 and 3, which are controlled by means of lift valves 4 and 5. The lift valves 4 and 5 are guided in the cylinder head 1, the free shaft ends 6 of which are arranged in control chambers 7. The control chambers 7 are a top wall 100 of the cylinder head 1 in a control housing 8 connected to it adjacent. The spring-loaded lift valves 4 and 5 are each actuated by a control shaft 10 via a plunger 9.

Each plunger 9 slides in a guide 11 assigned to the control chamber 7. Each guide 11 is designed in such a way that it only has guide surfaces 12, 13 which cooperate with opposite partial circumferences of the plunger 9. The guide surfaces 12, 13 of the tappet guide 11 are arranged on the components delimiting the control chamber 7. A component delimiting the control chamber 7 is a side delimitation 14 of the control housing 8, on which the guide surface 12 is formed. Another component delimiting the control chamber 7 is a tongue-like wall part 15 which is arranged opposite the side delimitation 14 of the control housing 8 and is arranged freestanding on the top wall 100 and has the guide surface 13.

The control chamber 7 with guide surfaces 12 and 13 arranged in pairs on the components of a side boundary 14 of the control housing 8 delimiting the control chamber 7 and an opposite wall part 15 arranged essentially free-standing on the top wall 100 can be advantageous in one-piece design of the cylinder head 1 and control housing 8 in permanent mold casting be formed by a steel core. After casting, the guide surfaces 12 and 13 of the laterally open tappet guide 11 are machined, preferably with a turning tool in the case of cylindrically curved guide surfaces 12 and 13, as can be seen in FIG. 2.

The tappets 9, which are only partially guided, in the laterally open guides 11 with relatively narrow guide surfaces 12 and 13 are accordingly in cross section designed rectangular to oval. With the valve tappet 9, which is narrow in relation to the cam rotating plane, lift valves 4 and 5, as can be seen in FIG. 2, can be arranged relatively closely spaced apart. A small mutual distance between the lift valves 4 and 5 enables a small cylinder diameter and a small cylinder distance. In order to keep the influence of the cylinder head screw connection attacking at 16 near the tappet guides 11 low, a releasable connecting web 17 connecting the wall parts 15 to the side boundary 14 of the control housing 8 is arranged between the tappet guides 11. The connecting web 17 can also serve to form the lower part of a control shaft bearing 18. To further stiffen the control housing 8, the wall parts 15 can be connected to a shaft wall 19 of an approximately cylinder-axial shaft 20 for a spark plug 21 via support webs 22. In a 4-valve cross-flow cylinder head 1, opposite wall parts 15 can also be supported against one another, support wall 23.

The guide surfaces 12 on the side delimitations 14 have openings 24 which are connected to a lubricating oil channel 25 arranged in the side delimitation 14. This configuration serves to supply hydraulic valve lash compensation elements provided in the tappets 9 with lubricating oil.

A rotation lock stop 26 designed as an adapter sleeve is used to secure the rectangular to oval plungers 9 against rotation, the free end of the respective adapter sleeve projecting beyond the guide surface 13.

Regardless of the number of the respective lift valves for controlling the gas exchange channels, the invention enables Arrangement of the guides 11 and the guide surfaces 12 and 13 for the valve tappets 9 advantageously narrow valve angles with the favorable result of a flat combustion chamber for fast and clean combustion.
