Grundsätzlich benötigt jede Musiksaite für eine gewünschte Grundfrequenz bei gegebener Spannung und freier Schwingungslänge (Mensur) ein bestimmtes Gesamtgewicht je Längeneinheit. Dieses teilt sich in das Gewicht für den die Spannung aufnehmenden Kern der Saite und das Gewicht der "Umspinnung" zur Klangmodulation der Saite. Dieses Ziel wird mit Musiksaiten erreicht, bei denen als Kernmaterial Aramidfasern vorgesehen sind. Aufgrund der besonders günstigen Eigenschaften der erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Aramidfasern, d.h. hoher spezifischer Festigkeit, höchste Reißlänge, hohem E-Modul, kleiner Bruchdehnung, hoher Härte, hoher Kerbfestigkeit und geringerWasseraufnahme, ist beispielsweise die Herstellung dünner Gitarre- oder hoher Streichsaiten ohne weiteres möglich und z B. ist Silber, ein gutklingender aber schwerer Werkstoff, als Umspinnungsdraht einsetzbar. Beispielsweise hat Aramidfilamentgarn, das von der Firma Du Pont unter der Markenbezeichnung Kevlar 49 im Handel ist, folgende physikalischen Eigenschaften:
Aramide sind Polyamide mit aromatischen Kettengliedern, die zu mindestens 85 % Massenanteil direkt durch Amidgruppen zu linearen Makromulekülen verbunden sind und bei denen bis zu 50% der Amidbindungen durch Imidbindungen ersetzt sein können.
Die Verwendung von Polyamiden als Kernmaterial bei der Saitenherstellung ist bekannt. Trotzdem war der Einsatz von Aramidfasern nicht naheliegend, da eine ihrer Eigenschaften, nämlich ihre sehr guten Schwingungsdämpfungseigenschaften, den Fachmann von ihrem Einsatz als Kernmaterial für Saiten abhielten. Dieser Umstand erklärt auch die Tatsache, daß das erfindungsgemäß verwendete Aramidmaterial, obwohl bereits seit anfangs der 60er-Jahre bekannt und unter verschiedenen Handelsnamen erhältlich, bis zur vorliegenden Erfindung keinen Eingang bei der Saitenherstellung gefunden hat.The use of polyamides as the core material in string production is known.
