Abstract
Dispenser for dispensing paper lenghts (103) from a paper roller (3) housed in said dispenser, comprising a box (1) made of a material having a comparatively small stiffness and provided with an overturnable cover (2). Between the lower side of the front edge of the cover (2) and the cooperating rim (9) of the box a slit for the passage of the paper ribbon (103) is formed, said slit being sidewise confined by two side wall members (5,5′) depending from said cover (2). Thanks to the above construction, and to the fact that said cover (2) is resiliently yieldable, by depressing the front edge of said cover (2), said ribbon (103) is blocked between the lower side of the edge of the cover (2) and the co-operating rim (9) of the box (1) during the tear-off operation.
Description
- The present invention relates to a dispenser for containing rolls of ribbon of paper, unwoven tissue or the like, and for dispensing lenghts of ribbon unwound from said rolls.
- The scope of the invention is a dispenser adapted to accommodate a roll of paper so that the free end of the rolled ribbon is left protruding out of said dispenser to enable the withdrawal of a desired length of ribbon from the dispenser by a tractive action, and its successive tearing-off from the roll, permitting the roll of paper contained in the dispenser to be blocked during the tear-off operation.
- According to the main feature of the present invention, this is obtained by means of a dispenser comprising a box made of a material having a comparatively small stiffness and provided with an overturnable cover, in which between the lower side of the front edge of the cover and the cooperating rim of the box a slit for the passage of the paper ribbon is formed, said slit being sidewise confined by two side wall members depending from said cover, the said members acting also as abutment members, the said cover being further resiliently yieldable so that by depressing its front edge said ribbon is blocked between the lower side of the edge of the cover and the co-operating rim of the box, thus permitting to effect the tear-off operation without unrolling any further ribbon.
- Further characteristics and advantages of the dispenser according to the invention will become apparent from the following detailed description thereof, made with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
- Fig.1 is a perspective view of the dispenser with the paper roll therein and the overturnable cover in a raised position;
- Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the dispenser, with the leading edge of the paper ribbon of the roll in the withdrawal position and the overturnable cover in the opened position;
- Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the dispenser in the utilization condition, with the withdrawn length of ribbon partly torn-off along the perforated line and with the overturnable cover in the closed position;
- Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view of the dispenser containing the paper roll in its utilization condition; and
- Fig. 5 shows a detail of a modified embodiment of the invention.
- In Fig. 1 is shown a dispenser for containing and dispensing rolls of paper ribbon or the like, consisting of a
box 1 of cardboard or similar material. Thebox 1 has anoverturnable cover 2 hinged thereto along an upper edge thereof. Accommodated in thebox 1 is a roll of a ribbon 3 of paper, unwoven tissue or the like having transverse lines of perforations 4 to tear off pieces of ribbon of a given length. To permit a more economical construction of the dispenser, by using a lighter material, more particularly thin cardboard or the like, theoverturnable cover 2 is formed, at the two side edges thereof, with awing said cover 2. Thefront wall 10 of thebox 1 is reinforced by folding over towards the interior theflap 11 extending fromsaid wall 10, so that the end 12 thereof nearly reaches thebottom 13 of the box. Theflap 11 is of a width which is slightly smaller than that of thewall 10, so as to form twoside slits wings cover 2 when the latter is turned to the closed position. - By virtue of the reinforcement of the front side of the box, with formation of the supporting
rim 9, and of the side reinforcement constituted by thewings length 103 of the ribbon is to be torn off along one of the lines of perforations, it is only necessary to bring one line of perforations 4 outside of thebox 1 and depress the intermediate portion of theoverturnable cover 2 at theoutlet slit 14, thus blocking the roll of ribbon 3 contained in thebox 1 and tearing offtherefrom the length ofribbon 103 previously withdrawn from the dispenser, with no risk that theoverturnable cover 2 or theopen front rim 9 of thebox 1 may collapse under the load of the applied slight depression, and with no risk that the roll 3 may be unrolled further during the tear-off operation. - In certain cases it might be advantageous to reinforce the free edge of the
overturnable cover 2, co-operating with the supportingrim 9, so as to ensure a better grip therebetween of the paper ribbon being unwound from thebox 1. - For this purpose, according to the modified embodiment of the invention shown in Fig. 5, the front flap of the
cover 2 is slightly extended with anextension 2′ which is then folded over into a U-shape onto saidcover 2, thus constituting a suitable reinforcement at the free edge of thecover 2. In this instance, it may be devised to lower the supportingrim 9 by a small extent to compensate for this larger thickness of theedge 2′ of thecover 2. - Moreover, according to a further embodiment of the present invention, stop and/or retaining means co-operating with the
wings side slits box 1 when thecover 2 of said box is raised.
Claims (9)
1-A dispenser for dispensing paper lenghts (103) from a paper roller (3) housed in said dispenser, comprising a box (1) made of a material having a comparatively small stiffness and provided with an overturnable cover (2), characterized in that between the lower side of the front edge of the cover (2) and the cooperating rim (9) of the box (1) a slit for the passage of the paper ribbon (103) is formed, said slit being sidewise confined by two side wall members (5,5′) depending from said cover (2), the said members (5,5′) acting also as abutment members for said cover (2) and as side stiffening members for said box (1), the said cover (2) being resiliently yieldable so that by depressing its front edge said ribbon (103) is blocked between the lower side of the edge of the cover (2) and the co-operating rim (9) of the box (1).
2- A dispenser according to claim 1, characterized in that said side abutment members (5,5′) are constituted by wings in the form of circular sectors having an amplitude of 90° and disposed at right angles to the plane of said cover (2) at the side edges thereof.
3- A dispenser according to claim 2, characterized in that the radius of said circular sectors (5,5′) corresponds to the length of the side edge of the cover (2) and their apex is at the rear edge of said cover (2).
4- A dispenser according to claim 3, characterized in that when the cover (2) is closed said side wings (5,5′) are within the dispenser and the free edges thereof abut against the rear wall of the box (1), thus preventing the cover (2) from sinking into the box.
5- A dispenser according to claim 1, characterized in that the longitudinal front wall (10) of the box (1) is reinforced by folding over a wing-like extension (11) of said wall (10) towards the interior of the box (1).
