Abstract

An induction apparatus (10) for an air distribution system. A nozzle (12) is coupled with a primary air supply duct (18) downstream of a variable volume terminal unit to increase the velocity of air discharged from the duct (18). The increased primary air velocity induces secondary air into the primary air stream. The secondary air is supplied by a ceiling plenum which may be in communication with the conditioned area. A mixing chamber (14) is positioned downstream of the nozzle (26) and is sized for allowing mixing of the induce secondary return air with the primary air stream. A diffuser (20) coupled with the downstream end of the mixing chamber (14) distributes the mixed air into the conditioned space.
