Abstract

Metallic container of the type consisting of a cylindrical element (1) closed near its axial ends (2) by means of thin-walled covers (3) mainly fixed in radial surfaces, of which at least one is provided with one or more openings (4,5), respectively filling and/or discharge openings, characterized by the fact that the cover (3), which is provided with the discharge opening (5), displays at least one sloping part (8,9) towards the discharge opening (5).

Description

  • This invention relates to a metallic container, and more especially to a container of the type consisting in a cylindrical element closed near to its axial end by means of thin-walled covers fastened to it mainly in radial surfaces, whereby at least one of the covers is provided with one or more openings, respectively filling and/or discharge openings.
  • It is common knowledge that the radial walls of covers of metallic containers display, mainly because of their utilization, a convex bending oriented outwards. It is hence obvious that it is difficult to empty completely such containers. In the discharge position, when the container is completely reversed, there shall always be residual liquid in the bent cover.
  • It is also well-known that in metallic containers, in order to make provision for the necessary fastening means for a cap or equivalent, the discharge opening is provided at some distance from the metallic container edge. It goes without saying that if the metallic container is discharged under a certain angle, an important quantity of not easily dischargeable liquid shall remain in the container.
  • This invention relates hence to a metallic container not presenting the aforementioned drawbacks.
  • With respect to this, the invention relates to a metallic container of a type consisting of a cylindrical element closed near its axial ends by means of thin-walled covers mainly fastened in radial surfaces, of which at least one is provided with one or several openings, respectively filling and/or discharge openings, characterized by the fact that the cover provided with the discharge opening displays at least one sloping part towards the said discharge opening.
  • In a preferred construction, this sloping part is formed by a circular penetration made towards the container outside in the cover in question, the penetration of which with regard to the radial surface in which the cover is fixed, is the most important near the discharge opening. The penetration is preferably located concentrically with regard to the container wall.
  • The use of a cover provided with one or more sloping parts as described above has the advantage that the residual liquid can flow to the discharge opening and that by doing so, the container can he emptied completely.
  • With a view to better illustrate the characteristics according to the invention, a preferred construction is described below as example without any limitative character, with reference to the attached sketches, where
    • figure 1 is a sectional view of the metallic container or at least of the part thereof containing the cover,
    • figure 2 is a view following arrow F2 in figure 1, figure 3 is a schematic representation of a container according to the invention.
  • Figure 1 illustrates a container consisting of a cylindrical element 1 closed near its represented axial end 2 by means of a thin-walled cover 3 provided with a filling opening 4 and a discharge opening 5 respectively. These openings are provided with elements identified as 6 and 7, for instance flanges, for the installation of plugs. According to this invention, cover 3 is provided with sloping parts 8 and 9 towards the discharge opening 5.
  • As indicated in figure 2, the sloping part 8 is preferably formed by a circular penetration 10 made in cover 3 towards the container outside. The bottom of this penetration 10 is flat, but is however not radial with regard to the container longitudinal axis 11.
  • As illustrated in figures 1 and 2, over a small surface, preferably around the discharge opening 5, one makes a recess or penetration 12 of which the bottom wall 13 is located radially with regard to the container, the recess 12 being made over a distance or depth T larger than the aforementioned depth D. The recess 12 situated radially with regard to the container allows for the longitudinal axis 14 of the discharge opening 5 to remain parallel to the container longitudinal axis 11 upon installation of the elements 7.
  • As illustrated in figure 3, it is obvious that the container according to this invention can be easily completely emptied without any problem. It is obvious that the invention relates also to containers of which the cover displays several sloping parts 8, which incline respectively towards various openings upon emptying of the container.
  • In a special construction, only the recess or penetration 12 shall be adopted, which allows after all also the flowing off towards the discharge opening 5.
  • This invention is not at all limited to the construction described in the example and illustrated in the figures; such a container can indeed be built in all kinds of shapes and sizes without exceeding the scope of this invention.

Claims (5)

1.- Metallic container of the type consisting of a cylindrical element (1) closed near by its axial ends (2) by means of thin-walled covers (3) mainly secured in radial surfaces, of which at least one is provided with one or more openings (4,5), respectively filling and/or discharge openings, characterized by the fact that the cover (3), provided with the discharge opening (5), has at least one sloping part (8,9) to the said discharge opening.
2.- Metallic container according to conclusion 1, characterized by the fact that the container displays a sloping part (8) which consists essentially of a circular penetration (10) made in the cover in question (3) towards the container outside, of which the penetration (D) is the largest near the discharge opening (5).
3.- Metallic container according to conclusion 2, characterized by the fact that the penetration (10) is located concentrically in the cover (3).
4.- Metallic container according to conclusion 3, characterized by the fact that the penetration (10) radius (R) is mainly as large as the distance between the discharge opening (5) and the container longitudinal axis (11).
5.- Metallic container according to one of the conclusions 2 to 4 included, characterized by the fact that around the discharge opening, a recess or penetration (12) is provided over a small surface, of which the bottom wall (13) is radial with regard to the container, the said recess (12) being located deeper than the aforementioned penetration 10.
