Description

The present invention relates to a watch in which at least part of the clothing is surmounted by a decorative coating of the mosaic type.

Watches have already been proposed for a long time decorated with a mosaic. This is the case, for example. full of the watch which is the subject of patent CH-A-67 786 where the dial is decorated by an application of jewelry. The appliques, for example precious stones, are then set in the dial. These are most often luxury watches which sometimes also have a bezel set with diamonds in large numbers. These pieces of jewelry, paved with diamonds, give the impression of a mosaic in the sense that the stones are placed next to each other. These stones are nonetheless separated by the crimping metal, which gives the piece a very high labor cost.

The mosaic look is also given to the dial or the bezel of a watch by subjecting it to a guilloche operation which consists in decorating the dial with engraved lines, hollowed out and crisscrossed. The guillochage is mainly applied to parts produced in large series and leaves a monotonous impression ill suited to high-end watches.

More elaborate is the decoration proposed by the disclosure of invention CH-A-39 471. This document relates to a pocket watch case having a bottom formed by a metal plate in which are formed depressions filled with another metal than that of the plate, these metals being able to be chosen so as to obtain decorative effects similar to those of the watch case backs decorated with honeycombs. Here the cobblestones forming the mosaic adjoin each other by partitions which completely fill the interstices between the cobblestones and therefore do not give the impression of relief which is the characteristic of a real mosaic.

Also of interest is the method of manufacturing a timepiece dial described in document CH-A-13 598/73. In this document the dial made of metal is coated with fragments of glued stones which gives it the appearance of a mosaic work. These stone fragments are distant from each other, the free spaces which separate them being filled with metal obtained by electroplating. The metal is raised in the open spaces until this metal slightly protrudes from the surface of the stones and then ends by leveling the surface of the dial. The dial thus produced has the appearance of a partition, like enamels. In this process too, the points separating the stone pavers are found at the same level as the pavers themselves, which does not give the room the relief expected from a mosaic work, as we have already said. about the previous quote.

Mention may also be made of document EP-A-168 009 which describes a clothing element for a wristwatch at least partially formed from a composite material. This material comprises an organic binder such as a resin and macroscopic particles of mineral substances which are exposed on at least a portion of the visible surface of the element and occupy most of this portion. Here too the finished surface of the element is continuous and the interstices between the macroscopic particles are completely filled with resin.

Document DE-U-84 14 401 describes a sickle-shaped watch case covered with ornamental stones. These stones are introduced into holes made on the top of the case, these holes serving as means for fixing the stones to the case. The document does not describe and does not suggest that the stones can be replaced by metal pavers which would also be fixed on the housing by means of a bed covering the housing such as for example a weld. In fact the cited document is an illustration of what has already been said about the document CH-A-67786 mentioned above and therefore presents a solution that the present invention precisely wants to avoid.

Document DE-U-1 763 386 describes a wall or table clock, at least the hour circle of which is covered with a mosaic, the paving stones of which are made of glass, stone, ceramic or artificial material. It is expressly mentioned that the spaces separating the pavers are filled with cement or plaster.

To overcome the drawbacks listed above and to propose a watch coated at least partially with a mosaic structure having a new effect, the decorative coating, according to the invention comprises a plurality of metal pavers juxtaposed and arranged on a bed covering the clothing. , said bed serving as a means of fixing said paving stones to said clothing, at least the upper part of the interstices separating said paving stones being left empty.

The present invention, by the fact that at least the upper part of the interstices separating the paving stones is left empty, unlike prior art, gives the impression of relief which is the characteristic of a real mosaic, as has been said more high. In addition to this, the documents cited in no way suggest the use of metal pavers which would be fixed to the case, for example by welding, especially if the metal pavers are applied to a watch, as is the case. case of the present invention.

The invention will now be explained with the aid of the description which follows, with the aid of the drawing which illustrates it by way of example and in which:
  • FIG. 1 is a top view of a watch according to the invention in which the decorative coating of the mosaic type covers the middle-bezel of said watch,
  • FIG. 2 shows the same type of watch where the decorative coating covers the dial,
  • FIG. 3 shows a watch where both the middle part and the dial are covered with the decorative coating according to the invention,
  • FIG. 4 is an enlarged perspective view of the zones marked IV in FIGS. 1 and 2,
  • FIG. 5 is a section along the line VV of FIG. 4,
  • FIG. 6 is an example of decoration of the watch face, decoration which forms a design and
  • FIG. 7 is an example of decoration of the watch face, where the decoration in the form of a mosaic is composed of paving stones arranged at random.

Figure 1 is a top view of a watch equipped with the decorative coating according to the invention. This watch comprises a middle-bezel 1 surmounted by a coating of the mosaic type comprising a plurality of metal pavers 2 juxtaposed. FIG. 2 presents a similar type of watch where it is the dial 3 which is covered with the blocks 2 whereas in FIG. 3, it is both the middle-bezel 1 and the dial 3 which are covered with the mosaic according to the invention. In general any part of the clothing can wear the mosaic decoration and it could also be the bracelet 4, especially if it is formed of articulated links.

Figures 4 and 5 respectively show in perspective and in section the appearance of the mosaic and the holding of the paving stones composing it. FIG. 4 is an enlargement of zone IV presented in FIG. 1 or in FIG. 2 and FIG. 5 a section along the line V-V of FIG. 4.

Figure 4 shows that there is a certain space 5 between the paving stones, space which can be more or less important as seen in Figure 5 and under references 51, 52 and 53, the importance of this space depending on the regularity cutting pavers or the precision that is put in juxtaposing pavers on clothing. As can be seen in FIG. 5, the blocks 2 are arranged on a bed 6 which covers the clothing 7, this bed 6 serving as a means of fixing the blocks on the clothing. FIG. 5 also clearly shows that the spaces or interstices 51, 52, 53 separating the blocks 2 are not entirely filled with material forming the bed 6, the upper part of these intersections however being left empty. This last particularity makes the main interest of the present invention especially because it gives the object an aspect of relief which it would not have if the interstices 51 to 53 were filled with material up to the surface of the mosaic. The more or less regular gaps separating the pavers further improve the aesthetic appearance of the watch by giving it an aspect of high craftsmanship, further enhanced by the artisanal work of laying the pavers.

In the case where the pavers 2 are made of gold and the clothing 7 is also made of gold, use will be made of a solder paste commonly used by goldsmiths and itself containing gold. The clothing 7 to be coated is coated with this paste forming the base bed 6 and then the pavers are placed on the paste. The object is passed into the oven at a temperature of the order of 800 ° C., which welds the blocks on the substrate. It is understood that by capillarity the weld can go up along the interstices and this all the more important as the interstice is smaller, as we see in figure 5. We manage however that the upper part of the interstices always remains empty of matter. It is actually a real mosaic work according to the so-called direct method, but applied to a watch, which has never been proposed so far.

One can naturally use gold pavers of two or more different colors, for example mixing pink gold pavers with yellow gold pavers, the pavers being arranged randomly, as seen in Figure 7 which shows a timepiece dial. Pink gold is shown in dotted lines and referenced 8 and yellow gold is shown in hatched lines and referenced 9. The paving stones here are straight parallelepiped elements. It could be cubes or even elements of any shape.

Figure 6 shows a mosaic whose paving stones are arranged to form a design, here a crescent moon. In this case, the crescent moon could be produced with blocks of yellow gold 10 shown in dotted lines and the background with blocks of white gold 11 represented in hatched lines.

The thickness of the pavers can be chosen for example between 0.5 to 1 mm. If placed on a flat dial or bezel, these pavers will be flat. In the case where they have to dress a curved or rounded bezel, they will themselves be preformed to adapt to the curvature of the substrate.

The object obtained in the way which has just been described gives the impression of a very rich ornament, by the materials used on the one hand and on the other hand by the care which will have been put in the making of said object. The mosaic gives the object in question a very elegant appearance especially by the fact that said mosaic is deposited according to a method recalling the manner of executing the old mosaics where the plaster bed has been replaced, in the present invention, by a welding bed.
