Definitions

  • the invention relates to a mixture and a method for the surface correction of a planographic printing plate with a metal carrier, preferably made of aluminum, which is scratched during handling.
  • the fact that water and fats naturally repel each other is used in the planographic printing system.
  • the surface of a planographic printing plate consists of areas that accept water and repel bold ink and those that repel water and accept bold ink.
  • the former areas form the non-image areas, the others the image areas. Therefore, if the surface properties are disturbed in these two areas, e.g. For example, if the hydrophilic non-image areas are scratched when working with the plate, the inks tend to settle in those scratched areas which have reduced hydrophilicity, which leads to toning of the background.
  • the scratches in the non-image areas fill with printing ink and gradually become oleophilic, so that "smearing" occurs.
  • a method for hydrophilizing a metal surface, in particular an aluminum surface is that the surface with an aqueous alkali silicate solution, e.g. B. a solution of sodium or potassium metasilicate, is treated.
  • an aqueous alkali silicate solution e.g. B. a solution of sodium or potassium metasilicate
  • smeared areas are cleaned and scratches and weak defects such as. B. superficial scratches, removed from illustrated and developed printing plates.
  • alkali silicates other alkaline salts of a strong base and a weak acid are also used in solutions such as e.g. B. is described in US-A 3,394,653.
  • US Pat. No. 4,028,281 describes a treatment solution for metal plates, which is composed of an alkali silicate, a surfactant and the iron chelate of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid and is used as a solution for cleaning and removing scratches on imaged and developed planographic printing plates. With these solutions, the scratches are often only corrected after a longer exposure time or there are still slight background veils when printing.
  • the object of the present invention was therefore to develop a fast-acting correction fluid with a very good correction effect.
  • the above object is achieved by a mixture consisting of 0.25 to 10.0% trisodium, trilithium or tripotassium phosphate, 0.25 to 5.0% sodium metasilicate, 0.10 to 5.0% of an arylphenol ethoxylate as anionic Surfactant and 80.0 to 99.4% water.
  • the invention furthermore relates to a method for correcting scratches in the non-image areas of a planographic printing plate with a metal support, in which the scratch or scratches occur in an imagewise exposed and developed planographic printing plate with hydrophilic non-image areas and oleophilic image areas that have at least one scratch in a non-image area Mixture is applied, which consists of 0.25 to 10.0% trisodium, trilithium or tripotassium phosphate, 0.25 to 5.0% sodium metasilicate, 0.10 to 5.0% of an arylphenol ethoxylate as an anionic surfactant and 80.0 to There is 99.4% water.
  • the phosphate component is contained in the mixture in a proportion of preferably 0.5 to 5.0% and in particular 1.0 to 3.0%. In a particularly preferred embodiment, trisodium phosphate is used.
  • the sodium metasilicate content is preferably 0.5 to 3.0% and in particular 1.0 to 2.5%.
  • the anionic surfactant is an arylphenol alkoxylate and, in the preferred embodiment, a potassium salt of phosphated, alkoxylated arylphenol. This component reduces the surface tension and facilitates easier penetration of the other components into the surface to be corrected.
  • the surfactant content is preferably 0.2 to 3.0% and in particular 0.3 to 2.0%.
  • the water content is preferably 89.0 to 98.8% and in particular 92.5 to 97.7%. The percentages are based on the weight of the mixture.
  • Negative-working planographic printing plates (type N-250, manufacturer: Enco Printing Products Division of Hoechst Celanese Corporation) are used for the evaluation of the solution produced in this way.
  • the N-250 plate is exposed, developed and used in a sheet-fed press (Heidelberg SORK brand), delivering prints of acceptable quality.
  • the machine is stopped and the plate is scratched at four locations across the non-image areas. This is intended to simulate conditions that often occur when handling printing plates in the machine rooms. When printing on, it becomes apparent that the plate takes on ink at the scratched areas and also reproduces it on the printed sheet.
