Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to an ornamental clock.
- An ornamental clock consists of a clock disposed in an ornamental body to enhance the clock. Such ornamental bodies may be made of wood, metal or glass. In the case of ornamental bodies made of glass, in particular cut glass bodies, the clock must be firmly disposed in the ornamental body, on the one hand, and easy to attend to, on the other hand. Due to the magnifying effect of the cut glass, the means of attachment, such as screws, clamps, etc., are magnified in such a way that the esthetic appearance of the ornamental clock is impaired. If the clock is attached to the ornamental body by means of adhesive, however, this preserves the clock's esthetic appearance but makes it difficult to attend to it, assuming the operating elements, e.g. the set wheels, are to be invisible.
- The present invention is therefore based on the problem of providing an ornamental clock of the aforesaid type which has an appealing esthetic appearance and is easy to attend to.
- The subject of the present invention is an ornamental clock comprising an ornamental glass body with a recess, a mount held in the recess and a clock disposed in the mount, the clock having a clock case on whose outer wall there are set wheels.
- In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the mount has a bottom and a side wall, an annular groove is disposed on the outer side of the side wall and an O-ring made of transparent elastic material is disposed in the annular groove.
- In a further embodiment, the mount may have on its side wall a transparent collar.
- Further, the clock is preferably pivoted to the mount by means of a joint.
- In another preferred embodiment of the invention, the recess in the ornamental glass body is of cylindrical shape.
- In a further preferred embodiment, the ornamental glass body has a pyramid-shaped portion and a truncated pyramid interconnected via their bases.
- In yet another embodiment, small feet are provided on the side surface of the pyramid-shaped portion.
- Since a mount is provided in the ornamental body, the operating elements of the clock are hidden, whereby the clock can be easily removed from the mount when it requires attention.
- For the attachment of the mount to the recess in the ornamental glass body, the mount has on the outer surface of its side wall an annular groove in which an O-ring made of a transparent elastic material is disposed.
- This allows for a clamped connection between the mount and the recess in the ornamental glass body which, in spite of the magnifying effect of the ornamental glass body, is more or less invisible and which does not impair the elastic appearance of the ornamental clock.
- Instead of a groove and a transparent O-ring it is also possible to provide a transparent collar made of an elastic material on the outer surface of the side wall of the mount. This type of attachment does not impair the esthetic appearance of the ornamental clock either.
- According to a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, the clock is pivoted to the mount by means of a joint.
- This allows for the clock to be swung easily out of the mount when it requires attention.
- The recess in the ornamental glass body is expediently cylindrical. This allows for simple production of the recess and a good connection with the mount.
- According to a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, the ornamental glass body has a pyramid-shaped portion and a truncated pyramid interconnected by their bases. On the outer surface there are small feet provided in the area of the edge of the pyramid-shaped portion. This ensures the stability of the clock whereby the clock is disposed in such a way as to allow the time to be read well.
- An exemplary embodiment of the present invention is shown in the drawing and shall be described in the following in more detail.
- The figure shows a side view of the ornamental clock in partial crosssection.
- The figure shows a pyramid-shaped ornamental glass body 1. Ornamental glass body 1 is provided in the embodiment shown, in the form of a precious stone, with a rose cut on its upper portion adjacent pyramid-
shaped portion 15, resulting in atruncated pyramid 16. This means that ornamental glass body 1 consists of a multi-surface pyramid-shaped portion 15 and atruncated pyramid 16 interconnected by their bases. - In the upper free flat surface of
truncated pyramid 16, arecess 7 is worked in which has a depth slightly greater than the thickness ofclock 2 to be provided.Recess 7 is cylindrical in the embodiment shown. It may also be rectangular or square ifclock 2 has a different format or if ornamental glass body 1 has a different shape. However, acylindrical recess 7 can be most simply produced. - In order to ensure the stability of ornamental glass body 1, which is to lie on a supporting surface with the side surface of the pyramid, two
small feet 3 are spaced from each other in the area of the edge of the side surface of the pyramid. - A metal mount 8 is disposed in
recess 7. It is also possible to make mount 8 out of a suitable plastics material. Mount 8 is also cylindrical and has abottom 17 and a side surface 18. At the upper edge of side surface 18 there is an outwardly extendingflange 13 which serves as a stop when mount 8 is inserted intorecess 7 and, on the other hand, covers the transition from mount 8 to recess 7 in ornamental glass body 1, thereby improving the esthetic impression. - Side wall 18 is provided on its outer side with an
annular groove 10 extending all around side wall 18. An O-ring 11 made of a transparent and elastic material is disposed inannular groove 10. O-ring 11 is deformed when mount 8 is inserted intorecess 7 and, due to its elasticity, fixes mount 8 inrecess 7. It is also possible to replacegroove 10 and O-ring 11 by other means of attachment which do not impair the esthetic appearance ofclock 2. For example, one may dispose around side wall 18 a collar made of a transparent and elastic material which resiliently engages the side wall ofrecess 7 when mount 8 is disposed inrecess 7. - On
flange 13 of mount 8 there is a hinge worked intoflange 13 or ajoint 12 for pivoting anouter edge 20 ofclock 2 to flange 13 at one place.Outer edge 20 ofclock 2 also has a gripping recess 4 allowingclock 2 to be moved out of mount 8 more easily, one grasping underouter edge 20 with one's fingernail, for example. Such a recess may also be provided inflange 13 of mount 8, in which caseouter edge 20 ofclock 2 need not have a gripping recess. Onouter wall 19 ofclock case 21 there is a locking nose 5 to be engaged with a recess 9 disposed on the inner side of side wall 18 of mount 8 whenclock 2 is being disposed in mount 8. Further, set wheels 14 for setting or winding the clock are disposed onouter wall 19 ofclock case 21. - To assemble the ornamental clock,
clock 2 is connected with mount 8 viajoint 12, O-ring 11 is then disposed inannular groove 10 on the outer side of side wall 18, and mount 8 is inserted intorecess 7 of ornamental glass body 1, where it is fixed by O-ring 11 in more or less invisible fashion.Clock 2 is then set up with the side surface of the pyramid, the twelve on the face being expediently disposed opposite the small feet. - The invention provides an ornamental clock which has a very esthetic appearance, since the operating elements are hidden, but is still easy and comfortable to attend to.
