Abstract

A grinding belt which is coated at least on one side with abrasive grain and is provided with a straight-cut butt fastening with connecting strips placed or inserted on the pressure side. The characterising feature of the invention is that a zone free of abrasive grain or a reduced zone is provided on either side of the butt joint (2) in the area of the fastening points over a width of at least 2 mm.

Schleifbänder bestehen aus einer mit Schleifmittel belegten Unterlage. Als Material für die Unterlage werden dabei Substrate aus Papier, Gewebe oder Papiergewebekombination bevorzugt. Um aus der schleifmittelbeschichteten Unterlage ein Schleifband herzustellen, muß der entsprechende Zuschnitt des Schleifbandes endlos gemacht werden. Dazu werden die Enden des Schleifbandzuschnitts stumpf gestoßen und miteinander verbunden. An die Güte der Bandverschlüsse werden im Hinblick auf Haltbarkeit und Maßgenauigkeit sehr hohe Anforderungen gestellt. Oft ist die Güte der Verbindungsstelle ausschlaggebend für die Qualität des errecihbaren Schliffbildes. Es gibt die unterschiedlichsten Ausführungsformen von Schleifbandverschlüssen. Die wohl bekannteste und älteste Ausführungsform ist der Lappverschluß. Dabei wird der Schleifbandzuschnitt an seinen beiden Enden angeschärft, und zwar im Ober- und Unterlappen in unterschiedlicher Ausführung. Die beiden angeschrägten Enden werden mit Klebstoff versehen und übereinandergelegt und verpreßt.Abrasive belts consist of an underlay coated with abrasive. Um bei Gewebe-Unterlagen Festigkeitseinbußen zu vermeiden, müssen die tragenden Gewebefäden überlappt verklebt werden, was dann konstruktionsbedingt zwangsweise zu Überhöhungen in der Dicke führt. Diese Überhöhungen erzeugen auf den geschliffenen Werkstücken Schattierungen, sogenannte Rattermarken. Derartige Schliffbilder werden heute meißt nur noch im Vorschliff akzeptiert. Für den Endschliff werden verbesserte Verbindungsstellen benötigt. Zur Vermeidung von Rattermarken wurde es daher bei Lapperverschlüssen schon bald üblich, die Verschlußzone ganz oder teilweise kornfrei zu machen, um das Ausmaß der Überhöhung zu reduzieren. Dennoch zeigen solche kornfreien Verschlüsse meist noch Markierungen, insbesondere dann, wenn die kornfreie Zone eine bestimmte Breite überschreitet. Ein weiterer Nachteil ist sehr oft, daß die Verschlußzonen sich beim Schleifen durchscheuern, wodurch das Schleifband zerstört wird. Kornfreie Lappverschlüsse lassen auch nur im groben und mittleren Kornbereich Verbesserungen erwarten. Für den Feinkornbereich sind sie nicht geeignet. Ein anderes Mittel zur Lösung des Problems ist der sogenannte Stoßverschluß.
