Description

The invention relates to heat exchangers, in particular cooling radiators for motor vehicles, of the type comprising a water box and an expansion tank which is connected to it by a tube formed in one piece with at least a portion of the water box and at least part of the expansion tank, a float belonging to a water level indicator being disposed in the tubing.

In this type of heat exchanger, the operation of the float may be disturbed by eddies and eddies caused by the circulation of fluids between the water box and the expansion tank.

The object of the invention is to avoid these disturbances.

This object is achieved according to the invention by means of a deflector intended to be put in place in the tubing, this deflector comprising means of positioning relative to said tubing, walls defining a chamber for receiving the float, means for establish a limited communication between said chamber on the one hand, means defining a degassing pipe for the passage of gas bubbles from the water box to the expansion tank and means defining a pipe for circulating fluid from the tank expansion to the water box.

The positioning means may comprise at least one wall bearing against a wall of the tube. They may comprise, alternatively or in addition, at least one projection coming into abutment against a shoulder of the water box and / or of the expansion vessel at the end of the tubing. Advantageously, such a projection can be elastically erased when the deflector is put in place.

According to another characteristic of the invention, the means defining a degassing pipe comprise a recess, towards the inside of the tube, of a wall of the chamber coming to bear against a wall of the tube.

The invention also provides that the means defining a fluid circulation pipe comprise a wall extending longitudinally in the tubing and dividing the interior space thereof into two subspaces, one of the subspaces containing the room and the other subspace containing the circulation pipe.

  • - la figure 1 est une vue partielle d'un radiateur selon l'invention, en coupe selon la ligne I-I de la figure 2;
  • - la figure 2 est une vue partielle de dessus du radiateur;

  • - la figure 4 est une coupe du déflecteur selon la ligne IV-IV de la figure 1;
The invention will be described below in more detail with the aid of a preferred embodiment, and the accompanying drawings, in which:
  • - Figure 1 is a partial view of a radiator according to the invention, in section along line II of Figure 2;
  • - Figure 2 is a partial top view of the radiator;

  • - Figure 4 is a section of the deflector along the line IV-IV of Figure 1;
  • - Figure 5 is a side view of the deflector.

The radiator partially illustrated in Figure 1, for cooling the engine of a motor vehicle, comprises a water box 1 arranged vertically, associated with a collector 2 in the form of a plate also vertical having a multiplicity of holes in which s 'tightly engage the ends of tubes 3. The tubes 3, arranged horizontally, are intended for the circulation of a cooling liquid. The tubes 3 pass through fins 4 parallel to the manifold 2, with which they are in thermal contact.

Above the radiator proper, and in particular above the water box 1, is an expansion tank 5. The water box 1 and the expansion tank 5 are connected by a tube 7 formed of a single piece, for example by plastic injection, with the parts of the water box and the expansion tank to which it is connected.

In the wall of the tubing 7 is mounted a liquid level detector 8 comprising a float 9 disposed inside the tubing. The detector is for example of the type comprising an electrical contact influenced by a magnet carried by the float, as described in the document FR-A 2 506 012. The detector 8 is connected to an indicator placed on the dashboard of the vehicle.

According to the invention, a deflector 10 is placed in the tubing 7 to protect the float 9 against turbulence due to the exchange of fluids between the water box 1 and the expansion tank 5.

Les portions de paroi 11 et 13 se raccordent entre elles en 16, la portion de paroi 11 présentant, à l'opposé de la jonction 16, un bord longitudinal libre 17.The deflector 10 comprises, as can be seen more particularly in FIG. 4, a wall portion 11 extending in the longitudinal direction of the tube 7, which is slightly curved, and lining the wall of the tube, shown in phantom and noted 12 in Figure 4, on a fraction of its perimeter. Another wall portion 13 of the deflector, also extending longitudinally with respect to the tube, divides the internal space of the latter into two subspaces 14 and 15. The wall portions 11 and 13 are connected to each other in 16, the wall portion 11 having, opposite the junction 16, a free longitudinal edge 17.

The deflector 10 also has an upper wall 18 and a lower wall 19 separating the interior of the tubing from that of the expansion tank and that of the water box respectively. The end walls 18 and 19 are connected to the portions of walls 11 and 13 to define, in cooperation with the latter and with the portion of the wall 12 of the pipe included between the free edge 17 of the wall portion 11 and the free edge 20 of the wall portion 13 a chamber 21 contained in the subspace 14 and in which the float 9 is located. The chamber 21 is in limited communication with the expansion tank 5 and with the water box 1 by notches 22 and 23 formed in the walls 18 and 19 respectively.

The wall portion 11 of the deflector moves away from the wall 12 of the tube, over a small fraction of its circumferential extension, to form, between the wall portion 11 and the wall 12, a pipe lon gitudinal 24 connecting the water box and the expansion tank. This pipe 24, called degassing pipe, which extends along the wall of the pipe in the area where its longitudinal curvature turns its convexity inwards, allows the gas bubbles which collect at the upper part of the water box 1 to pass into the expansion tank 5.

The subspace 15 delimited by the wall portion 13, which communicates freely with the water box on the one hand and the expansion tank on the other hand, constitutes a liquid circulation pipe from the expansion tank to the water box. This pipe is divided in two by a reinforcing rib 25 depending on the wall 13 and the crest of which rests against the wall 12 of the tube, this rib extending longitudinally following the curvature of the tube.

The wall portion 11 of the deflector, the free edge 20 of the wall portion 13 and the crest of the rib 25, pressing against the wall 12 of the tube, ensure transverse positioning of the deflector in the latter. The upper wall 18, which extends at the upper end of the tubing 7, is supported by an extension 26 on a shoulder 27 formed by the wall of the expansion vessel at right where it is connected to the tubing. This stop prevents the deflector from moving down. A projection 28 extending downward the rib 25 is supported on the wall 29 of the water box 1 at the place where it is connected to the tubing. This stop prevents the deflector from moving up. The projection 28 can be elastically erased to allow the introduction of the deflector from above.

Other reinforcing ribs are provided on the end walls 18 and 19 of the deflector.
