Abstract

Device located at the receiver end for controlling the actuation of a receiver apparatus from the transmitter end, which uses an identification signal that characterizes a transmission and is transmitted throughout the duration of the transmission. When the apparatus starts to operate independently of the identification signal, or when the device is actuated at the commencement of the transmission or during the latter, means provided at the receiving end control the continued operation of the apparatus in a specific operating mode with the aid of the identification signal. The receiving apparatus can be a broadcast receiving apparatus, especially a television or radio receiving set, an audio or video recorder.

Description

The invention relates to a receiver-side device for the transmitter-side controlled actuation of a receiver-side device by means of a characteristic signal that transmitted during the entire duration of a transmission contribution and characterizes this transmission contribution, with operation of the device in a predetermined operating mode not started by the identification signal. Such a device is used, for example, to enable correct recording of the transmission contribution characterized by the relevant identification signal. The identification signal is transmitted as additional information to the sound and / or video signal, for example via a so-called subcarrier, a so-called data line in the video signal or the like.

From EP-A3-0 118 104 a device of the type mentioned is known. The operation of the device in a predetermined operating mode, which is not disclosed and started by an identification signal, consists in the fact that a comparison operating mode for comparing the transmitted identification signal data with the data of the program requests is started with the aid of a timer. As soon as the identification signal corresponding to the relevant program request is recognized during the comparison, the predetermined operating mode - that is, the further comparison - is no longer continued but ended.

The invention has for its object to provide a device by which an operation adapted to the transmission contribution of the receiver-side device in the predetermined operating mode is made possible in a simple manner for the user even if this operating mode was not started by the identification signal.

This object is achieved by the features specified in claim 1. Further developments of the invention result from the subclaims.

The device according to the invention has the advantage that the receiver-side device essentially remains in the predetermined operating mode only as long as the transmission contribution received at the time of activating the device continues.

This can advantageously result in a reduction in the consumption of electrical energy, in the case of recording devices also in particular a reduction in the wear of moving parts and / or a better utilization of recording media, for example audio or video tapes, cassettes, disks or the like.

Further advantages, features and details of the invention result from the following description of an exemplary embodiment with reference to the figure, in which a transmitter-controlled actuation of a video recorder is shown by the device according to the invention.

The video recorder (VCR) 9 shown in the figure each has a button (not shown) for recording mode ("recording button") and for so-called "quick start". When the record button is pressed, the video recorder 9 is permanently put into the recording mode, while when the quick start button is pressed it is put into the recording mode for a time period which can be set, for example, in 30-minute steps.

When the pick-up or the quick start button is pressed, a contact 1 or 2 is closed at the same time, as a result of which a positive voltage + is applied to a differentiator 3 consisting of a capacitor and a resistor connected to ground. The pulse generated by the differentiator 3 opens a gate 4 for a short time for a video signal present at the input of a line selector 5. The line selector 5 selects the sixteenth line of the video signal, the so-called data line, in which a characteristic signal characterizing a transmission contribution - also called a video program system or VPS signal - is transmitted.

Data contained in this identification signal are stored in a memory 6. It is not necessary to read all the data contained in the identification signal into the memory. For example, the data characterizing the received broadcaster or the associated home country of the transmitter can be disregarded, provided that no changes are made to the frequency tuning of the video recorder 9 during the recording operation.

The characteristic signal that characterizes it does not change during the entire duration of the broadcast. The data contained in the identification signal or the data contained in the identification signal required in the sense described above are fed to an input A of a comparator stage 7. The data stored in the memory 6 are present at another input B of the comparator stage 7.

As long as the information present at the two inputs A and B is the same or, in the sense explained above, is the same for the data of interest in the present case, the comparison stage 8 switches through, which keeps the video recorder in recording mode. It can be provided that the switching stage 8 can only be operated if it was previously activated in a manner not shown in the figure, for example, is applied to a supply voltage via a switch.

Die Vergleicherstufe 7 schaltet daher in erwünschter Weise den Aufzeichnungsbetrieb über die Schaltstufe 8, gegebenenfalls auch den Videorecorder insgesamt ab.As soon as the identification signal changes - in the case of the data of interest here - because, for example, the program ends or is interrupted or the transmitter is disturbed, the comparison of the data present at inputs A and B of comparator stage 7 is negative. The comparator stage 7 therefore desirably switches off the recording operation via the switching stage 8, possibly also the video recorder as a whole.
