Description

The invention relates to a device for connecting cable wires to insulation displacement contacts of Dropwire connection strips of telecommunications technology according to the preamble of claim 1.

A press-in tool of the generic type is previously known from DE 35 22 131. This consists of a shaft with a handle part as an actuating surface at one end and with guide and insertion bars at the other end for pressing the cable wires into the insulation displacement connection contacts of the Dropwire connection strip. For Dropwire cable cores that have very thick insulating sheaths, which results in high insertion forces when the Dropwire cable cores are pressed into the insulation displacement contacts of the Dropwire connection strip, a pre-cutting device is attached to the shaft of the insertion tool, which consists of a U-shaped lever and two on the inside its two side surfaces arranged arcuate cutting knives. Before being pressed into the insulation displacement contacts, the Dropwire cable cores are inserted at two opposite points in the intended contact area by means of the curved cutting blades cut and inserted into the respective insulation displacement contacts of the Dropwire terminal block after this incision. The press-in then takes place by means of the press-in webs which are adapted to the shape of the insulation displacement contact. When using the known insertion tool for Dropwire cable cores, two work steps are necessary to reduce the high insertion forces. In addition, the known insertion tool is technically complex and therefore expensive to manufacture.

The aforementioned Dropwire connection strips are previously known from DE-GM 8121 721. The distances between the clamping ribs are designed for the thick insulating sheaths of the drop wire cables. This means that the clamping ribs cannot reliably grasp thin cable cores that are pressed into the insulation displacement contacts of the Dropwire terminal block using the insertion tool. It has consequently been found that the thin cable cores can come loose from the insulation displacement contacts of the Dropwire connection strips when vibrations acting on the Dropwire connection strips, since the relatively thin insulating sleeve of the thin cable cores is not reliably gripped by the clamping ribs of the Dropwire connection strip.

The invention is therefore based on the object of providing a technically simple device of the generic type, with which thick Dropwire cable wires are connected to the insulation displacement contacts arranged in the Dropwire terminal strips in one work step and thin cable cores can be securely fixed in Dropwire connection strips.

The solution to this problem results from the characterizing features of claim 1. The insertion tool according to the invention is a simple and inexpensive component, in particular made of plastic, which enables the connection of Dropwire cable cores to the insulation displacement contacts of a Dropwire terminal block in a single step and further ensures the definition of thin cable cores in Dropwire connection strips. When using the insertion tool for connecting Dropwire cable wires to Dropwire connection strips, the high insertion forces that occur due to the thick insulating sheaths of the Dropwire cable wires are overcome by easy-to-apply impact or lever forces that are exerted on the attacking body, which is immediately attached connects the guide and indentation bars of the indentation tool.

In a particularly preferred manner, the insertion tool has a guide groove on the top of its engagement body for supporting the lever tool, in particular a screwdriver. The tip of the screwdriver engages under a scraping edge that runs a short distance above the switching side of the Dropwire terminal block and across the guide groove of the insertion tool. With a lever movement of the screwdriver Press-in tool pressed into the terminal block, the Dropwire cable core being inserted into the insulation displacement contact at the same time in a single operation. After pressing the insertion tool into the Dropwire connector strip, the top of the insertion tool is located under the support edge of the support plate. Despite the low overall height of the press-in tool, the high press-in forces that occur when wiring Dropwire connection strips with Dropwire cable cores with the particularly thick insulating material sleeve can be overcome.

The press-in tool consists in particular of an impact-resistant plastic which is inexpensive to produce by injection molding. This means that a press-in tool can always be present on each Dropwire connection strip by being attached to the Dropwire connection strip by means of a cord or the like.

The insertion tool according to the invention can also serve as a locking plug for holding thin cable cores in the Dropwire connection strips. By using the plastic locking tool forming a locking plug according to claim 5, thin cable wires can be pressed into the insulation displacement contacts of Dropwire connection strips and, on the other hand, can be securely held in the Dropwire connection strips, since the insertion tool remains as a locking plug in the Dropwire connection strip. As a receptacle for the thin cable cores are on the Underside of the insertion webs of the insertion tool retaining ribs are formed. In a particularly preferred manner, however, the press-in webs of the press-in tool are formed from two latchable half-shells connected by a film hinge, on the inner sides of which a groove-like insertion channel forming the receptacle for the thin cable wire is formed. The thin cable core is inserted into the unfolded half shells and fixed between them when the half shells are folded together. After the insertion tool designed in this way has been pressed into the Dropwire connection strip, the thin cable core is securely fixed.

A particularly important advantage of the push-in tool according to the invention, which forms a locking plug, is that the thin cable core is centered by the push-in tool when it is introduced into the Dropwire terminal strip, so that a secure contact connection between the thin cable core and the insulation displacement contact of the Dropwire terminal strip is ensured. It is also particularly advantageous that the thin cable core can also be pulled out when the lock plug is pulled out.

The invention is explained in more detail below on the basis of an exemplary embodiment of a device for connecting cable cores to Dropwire connection strips and a plurality of insertion tools that can be used in connection with this device.

Die Kabeladern 29 sind sogenannte dünne Kabeladern, die an für Dropwire-Kabeladern 8 vorgesehene Dropwire-Anschlußleisten 2 angeschlossen werden sollen.1 serves for connecting cable wires 8, 29 to insulation displacement contacts of Dropwire connection strips 2 of the telecommunications technology. The cable cores 8 form so-called drop wire cable cores with an insulating sleeve that is thick in relation to the core cross section. The cable cores 29 are so-called thin cable cores which are to be connected to Dropwire connection strips 2 provided for Dropwire cable cores 8.

The Dropwire terminal block 2 shown in Fig. 1 comprises ten slot chambers 18 arranged in a row, in which insulation displacement contacts, not shown, are arranged. Each slot chamber 18 is provided on the front side of the Dropwire connection strip 2 with a V-shaped clamping slot 17, the sides of which are formed by clamping ribs 19 provided with inclined clamping surfaces.

In the slot chambers 18 of the terminal block 2, insulation displacement contacts are arranged in a manner not shown, known from DE 34 15 369, to which Dropwire cable cores 8 with a particularly thick insulating sleeve or thin cable cores 29 are to be connected. The pressing tool 3 shown in FIG. 3 is provided for pressing the cable wires 8, 29 into the insulation displacement contacts. This consists of the guide and insertion webs 9, 10 and egg adapted to the shape of the insulation displacement contacts and the slot chambers 18 of the Dropwire terminal block 2 Nem immediately above this adjoining attack body 11, in particular for an impact or lever tool, in particular for a screwdriver 4. The outer contour of the insertion and guide webs 9, 10 is of the same shape as the inner contours of the slot chambers 18 provided in the Dropwire connection strip 2, in which the insulation displacement contacts are arranged. In particular, a slot 12 is provided between the insertion webs 10, into which the insulation displacement contact engages when the cable core 8, 29 is pressed in. The attack body 11 has on two opposite end faces a plurality of gripping grooves 13 which support the pulling out of the insertion tool 3 from the terminal block 2 by hand or which serve to press in the insertion tool 20, 21 when connecting thin cable wires 29. A through hole 14 for fastening the insertion tool 3 by means of a cord 15 or the like to the Dropwire connection strip 2 runs across the attack body 11.

A guide groove 16 for the lever tool in the form of the screwdriver 4 is formed on the upper side of the attack body 11.

To connect a Dropwire cable wire 8 to an insulation displacement contact of the Dropwire terminal block 2, the Dropwire cable wire 8 is placed over the clamping slot 17 of a slot chamber 18 with an associated insulation displacement contact.
