Definitions

  • This invention relates to paper attachment arrangements.
  • thin metal strips which are therefore pliable are passed through collective apertures of papers and the sheets of paper are held in such a way.
  • plastic strips are passed through apertures of papers sheets and there are clamp means on one side which hold the paper sheets by gripping of the plastic strips and effectively clamping the papers against an underneath base.
  • any sheet is pulled over a period of time during normal usage and the edges of any hole can very easily fray and tear and the sheets become separated.
  • the technique inherently involves cutting holes significantly in from an edge or from a top sheet of paper, so that any written or printed material in the vicinity of this area may either be covered or cut during the process.
  • This invention is directed to providing an arrangement and means by which the above problems can be reduced.
  • an attachment member comprised of a sheet of elongate dimensions; along one face of a first elongate side, an adhesive effective to adhere to a sheet of paper upon contact.
  • an aperture or apertures located adjacent an opposite elongate side to the first mentioned side and adapted for passage threrethrough of securing means.
  • such sheet is comprised of an appropriate material which has a strength somewhat stronger than a sheet of 70 g.s.m. paper.
  • the adhesive is distributed fully along at least one elongate side and sufficiently into the width of the strip so as to provide for adequate adhesion to a sheet of paper.
  • the adhesive is of sufficient strength to provide effective strong retaining grip on the sheet of paper relative to any counter pressure of modest extent on the strip which, of course, can equate to ordinary usage for review purposes of a sheet of paper.
  • the attachment member is comprised of a plastic which, however, will be somewhat stronger than a sheet of paper but will also provide sufficient base for adhesion of a suitable glue.
  • a plastic can be selected from coventional plastics such as an acrylic or p.v.c.
  • the sheet in preference there are a plurality of apertures through the sheet for the appropriate fixing means such as two-ring binder wires or three- ring binder wires.
  • Such apertures are accordingly circular and of slightly larger diameter than the corresponding ring binder wires as are conventionally used in Australia.
  • the strip can be secured by exposing the adhering face and aligning this in an appropriate position with respect to the sheet of paper but such that a part of the strip extends beyond the edge of the paper providing for spaced apart securement through any clamp means or locating means of the sheet of pap er.
  • the strip where it is secured over indicia on the sheet of paper may be expected not to obscure such indicia which remain therefore for visible appreciation.
  • the sheet needs to be removed for any purpose such as copying, it is possible to separate by separation of the adhesion from the sheet of paper, or the sheet can be removed with its attached strip.
  • the sheet is not essentially modified such as would occur with the punching of holes.
  • Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an attachment device according to a first preferred embodiment
  • FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the device as shown in Fig. 1 with an outer covering strip removed and a sheet of paper attached using the contact adhesive for attachement purposes,
  • FIF. 3 is the same view as in Fig. 1 with however, an outer cover strip being shown as partially removed,
  • FIG. 4 illustrates a second embodiment in which an attachment member according to this invention is secured to a different attachment device comprising a plurality of flexible plastic fingers
  • FIG. 5 illustrates the attachment members as shown in Figs. 1 ,2 and 3 secured however, as a stack to the two rings of a binder
  • FIG. 6 shows a further method of holding attachment members accordingt ot this invention as a third embodiment using a spring clip.
  • a base sheet 1 of rectangular proportions and of elongate shape the base sheet 1 having on an upper surface 2, an adhesive of a type adapted to provide a sticklness over a substantial period of time such that other materials such as other sheets of paper can be adhered thereto and removed therefrom from time to time without any destructive result although there may be some slight deterioration because of fibre clogging of some parts of the adhesive.
  • top sheet 3 Adhering to the adhesive extending over the full extent of the upper surface of the base sheet 1 is a top sheet 3 which has an outer strip 4 which is substantially separated along alignment 5 so that if the strip 4 is peeled off, this will leave a separated part 6 of the top sheet which can remain and act to assist in reinforcement of this part of the attachment device.
  • apertures 7 extending ful ly through both the top sheet 3 and the base sheet 1 by which, as is shown in Fig. 5, the wires 8 and 9 of a spring binder can pass therethrough and provide securement thereby.
  • An advantage of the device is that papers even of fragile type, can be temporari ly secured such that all of the material on a sheet can be viewed, the sheet can be removed from time to time, and there is no essential destruction of any part of the sheet.
  • Fig. 2 This is shown specifically in Fig. 2 in which there is a sheet 10 which is carefully positioned so that along edge 1 1 this is positioned over a secured to the exposed part of the attachment device specifically the upper surface contact glue at 2.
  • Fig. 4 this illustrates that other methods of attachment can be used such as a plastic spline 12 having a plurality of flexible fingers 13 which pass through appropriate slots at 14.
  • the member according to this embodiment is at 15 and includes a base sheet 16 a mid layer adhesive material at 17 and an upper sheet at 18 which has a separating l ine at 19 providing that the strip at 20 can be peeled away leaving an upper adhering surface to which any sheet of material can be attached.
  • a stack of attachment members each of these including a base sheet having a mid adhesion surface that is of a contact adhesion type so that a top sheet as at 21 can be peeled away and specifically the strip 22 which is separated slong the l ine at 23 can be peeled away to leave a selected strip for adherence purposes
  • Fig. 6 there are shown a plurality of such members all of which are held together by a spring clip 24 This illustrates the attachment method, but this can also include conventional permanent adhesion, stapling or indeed any other securement method.
  • members according to the disclosure can be obtained either in a sheet having a plurality of members in substantially separated format so that these can be torn from a connected sheet or they can be sold as a connected pad for use from time to time.
  • the outer strip Upon separation from such a pad the outer strip can be removed, the sheet of paper to which the article is to be attached fitted there along and the unit is then ready for conventional use.
  • base sheet and the upper sheet can be made from any material having any degree of opaqueness or indeed be entirely opaque, in another alternative arrangement, these can be transparent which can assist in providing a pleasant appearance and avoiding covering of written material especially on the back of a sheet where this is attached so as to normally show the front of the sheet.
