It was found that the color formers of the formula (I) are surprisingly readily soluble in the water-insoluble organic solvents mentioned. Solutions with a color former content of up to 50% by weight, in particular 15-20% by weight, can be obtained.
They have excellent stability even with temperature fluctuations.
For use in the recording materials, they are diluted to about 3-10% by weight with the solvents of the solutions according to the invention.
The solutions of the invention, when in contact with an acidic developer, i.e. an electron acceptor, intense blue, green-blue, green, violet or red hues that are excellent sublimation and lightfast. Mixing them together can result in navy blue, gray or black colors.
They are also valuable when mixed with one or more other known color formers, for example 3,3-bis (aminophenyl) phthalides, 3,3-bis (indolyl) phthalides, 3-aminofluoranes, 2,6-diamino-fluoranes , Leukoauraminen, Spiropyranen, Spirodipyranen, Chromenoindolen, Phenoxazinen, Phenothiazinen, Carbazolyl-methanen or other Tri arylmethane leuco dyes to give green, violet, blue, navy blue, gray or black colors.
They show good color intensity, high lightfastness and excellent aging and CB stability both on phenolic substrates and on activated clays. They are suitable for pressure-sensitive recording material, which can be both copy and registration material. Their rate of development varies depending on the substituents. In general, however, they are distinguished by a high development speed with a simultaneous reduced sensitivity of the recording materials to unintentional premature development.
Pressure sensitive recording materials are known, for example, from US Pat. Nos. 2,800,457 and 2,800,458.
- Compared to the powdery color former settings, they allow clean and easy handling. In addition to the color former, they consist of a solvent suitable for microencapsulation and can therefore be easily diluted or blended to the desired concentration using dosing devices. They make it possible to produce very high-color prints, since the use of highly concentrated solutions enables microcapsules to be produced with a color former content which is above the 3-7% by weight previously used.
Absaugen, Waschen mit Wasser und Trocknen im Vakuum bei 40°C liefert 21,8 g (98 % der Theorie) eines rötlichen Pulvers vom Schmelzpunkt: 78-81°C.12.1 g (0.05 mol) of 4,4'-dimethoxybenzophenone and 9.2 g (0.05 mol) of N-methyl-diphenylamine are suspended in 38.2 g (0.25 mol) of phosphorus oxychloride and at room temperature 14.2 g (0.1 mol) of phosphorus pentoxide were added. The melt is stirred at this temperature for 18 hours, poured onto 500 ml of ice water and stirred for a further 10-12 hours at room temperature until the dye separates out in crystalline form. Aspirating, washing with water and drying in vacuo at 40 ° C provides 21.8 g (98% of theory) of a reddish powder with a melting point of 78-81 ° C.
Auf Säureton wird eine kräftige rotviolette Farbe entwickelt.11.4 g of the moist press cake of the carbinol base of the formula (1) are dissolved in 32 g of chlorinated paraffin (C 13 -C 18 -n paraffin with about 45% by weight of chlorine) or diisopropylnaphthalene. After removal of the residual water in a vacuum at 40-50 ° C, solutions are obtained which contain approx. 20 X color formers. The solutions can easily be diluted with white oil (62% n-paraffin / 38% naphthene) or kerosene (C 10 -C 16 -n-paraffin) to the usual concentration in recording materials of eg 3% or 5X and encapsulated by conventional methods . A strong red-violet color is developed on acid clay.

Aus dem 1H-NMR-Spektrum geht hervor, daß der Farbbildner aus einem Gemisch von ca. 90 % 4,4'-Dimethoxy-4"-N-methyl-N-phenyl- triphenyl-carbinolmethylether (Formel 1: statt OH OCH3) und ca. 10 % Carbinolbase der Formel 1 besteht.44.3 g (0.1 mol) of the dye described in Example 1 (4,4'-dimethoxy-4 "-N-methyl-N-phenyl-triphenylmethyl chloride) and 93 g of diisopropylnaphthalene are dissolved in 500 ml of methanol 40 g (0.3 mol) of 30% sodium hydroxide solution are added dropwise and the mixture is stirred for 6 hours at this temperature, after which 120 ml of water are added, the mixture is stirred for 30 minutes and the organic phase which separates out is removed At 40 ° C. and suction, 126 g of a yellowish solution are obtained which contains 29.7% developable color former (after E i l measurement in glacial acetic acid.) The 1 H-NMR spectrum shows that the color former consists of a mixture about 90% 4,4'-dimethoxy-4 "-N-methyl-N-phenyl-triphenyl-carbinol methyl ether (formula 1: instead of OH OCH 3 ) and about 10% carbinol base of formula 1.

To the submitted suspension of 13.6 g (0.05 mol) of 2,4,4'-trimethoxy-benzophenone and 9.2 g (0.05 mol) of N-methyldiphenylamine in 38.2 g (0.25 mol) of phosphorus oxychloride 14.2 g (0.1 mol) of phosphorus pentoxide are added in portions at room temperature. The reaction mixture is heated to 40 ° C. and stirred at this temperature for 15 hours. It is then poured onto 600 ml of ice water, stirred for about 10 hours at room temperature and decanted from the color resin which has separated out. The residue is treated successively with 600 ml of 10% hydrochloric acid and 300 ml of water. After drying in vacuo at 40 ° C. and grinding, 22 g of a dark red powder with a melting range of 56-62 ° C. are obtained.
A solution in glacial acetic acid turns dark purple with λ max. = 563 nm and λ 2 = 456 nm. 1 H-NMR spectrum (CDCl 3 ): δ = 3.27 ppm (S, 3H), δ = 3.64 ppm (S, 3H), δ = 3.73 ppm (S, 3H), δ = 3.77 ppm (S, 3H) and δ = 5.04 ppm (S, 1H). 10 g of the dried press cake of the formula (3) can be readily dissolved in 40 g of chlorinated paraffin (C 13 -C 18 -n paraffin with approx. 45% by weight of chlorine). In this way, stable chloroparaffin solutions with 20 X color formers are obtained, which can easily be diluted to the usual use concentrations in recording materials (3% or 5 X). A strong dark red-violet color with high CF and CB fastness properties is achieved on acid clay.

Beschreibt man dieses Papier, so erhält man auf einem handelsüblichen kohlefreien Papier eine intensiv schwarze Durschrift.250 ml of the mixture according to Example 12 c. 40% microcapsule dispersion obtained are presented. 40 g of cellulose pulp (®Arbocell BE 600/30 from Rettenmeier and Sons) are slowly sprinkled in with vigorous stirring. After at least 30 minutes of intensive stirring, 40 ml of 50% SBR latex (®Baystal D 1600 from BAYER AG) are added. The resulting 48.5% coating color is diluted with water to a solids content of 30% and coated with an air brush on the back of a commercially available base paper. The application after drying is 5 g / m 2 . If you write on this paper, you get an intensely black major copy on a commercially available carbon-free paper.
