Description

The present invention relates to a method for invalidating valuable documents and the device enabling the method to be implemented.

This invention can be applied in particular in the field of briefcases or cassettes for transporting valuable documents such as banknotes or in the field of safes for an automatic banknote dispenser.

It is known in the field of portable boxes for the transport of documents of value of devices such as that disclosed by French patent application 2 382 211, which includes a trigger element which, in the event of an attempt to open the portable box triggers the dispersion of a fluid contained in a tank inside the box or the ignition of a pyrotechnic device. This device has the disadvantage in the case of the use of a pyrotechnic element of being destructive, consequently of preventing the recovery of banknotes or documents of value and their reimbursement by the Banque de France. On the other hand, when such a briefcase or box contains valuable documents arranged in stacks and a coloring fluid contained in a reservoir is used to invalidate these documents, the arrangement in stacks of valuable documents does not allow '' ensure sufficient coloring of documents and invalidation which can be detected by an inexperienced or inattentive eye. In fact, most of the time the documents are colored on the edge and, in payment, a ticket from such a cassette after an attempted break-in may very well be accepted. Even if the invalidation causes stains on the surface of the note, it may very well not appear to the creditor as being a mark of invalidation.

Thus the first object of the invention is a method of invalidating valuable documents overcoming the above drawbacks.

The first object is achieved by the fact that the method of invalidating valuable documents contained in a box forming a trunk or briefcase or container and comprising means for detecting an attempted break-in is characterized in that it comprises the following steps: transport one by one of the documents of value during an attempted break-in, from a storage space for documents of value to be distributed to a storage space for invalidated documents; invalidation of each of the valuable documents on the path of the documents between the aforementioned storage volumes in a time less than the minimum time of break-in of the box.

A second object of the invention is to provide a device for invalidating valuable documents contained in a box forming a trunk, briefcase or container and comprising means for detecting an attempted break-in allowing the implementation of the method.

This second object is achieved by the fact that the device comprises a box provided with distribution means and a receptacle for a stack of banknotes provided with a device for advancing the stack, a storage volume for invalidated banknotes, a transport device. banknotes from the stack to the storage volume for the invalidated banknotes, a device for invalidating banknotes arranged on the path between the stack and the storage volume, means for detecting a break-in, for autonomous supply of the device, and means for implementing the transport device and the invalidation device.

A third object of the invention is to provide a device compact enough to be used in carrying cases or cassettes. This third object is achieved by the fact that the invalidation device is constituted by a bill taking device comprising a stamp in contact with an ink roller and that the invalidation and transport device is mounted on a movable plate in the case, plate which is arranged at one end of the stack of banknotes.

  • La figure 1 représente une vue schématique d'une cassette ou malette de transport incluant le dispsositif d'invalidation;
Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear more clearly on reading the description below made with reference to the appended drawings in which:
  • FIG. 1 represents a schematic view of a cassette or transport case including the invalidation device;
  • FIG. 2 represents a schematic view of a safe used in automatic cash dispensers provided with an invalidation system.
  • FIG. 3 represents a variant of the distribution safe of FIG. 2.
  • FIG. 4 represents an alternative embodiment of the invalidation device.

Enfin une batterie 57 ou un accumulateur rechargeable permet d'assurer l'autonomie du système et l'alimentation du boitier de commandes et du moteur 53.FIG. 1 represents a case 1 consisting of a case or a carrying case for a stack of banknotes 2, a stack of banknotes which can be distributed by an opening arranged close to the face of the case and closable by a security system tamper-proof for transport. A plate 5 mounted sliding on guides 6, is permanently urged by elastic means so as to compress the stack of banknotes 2 by means of its plate 50. The plate 5 and its plate 50 share the volume of the box 1 in a volume 7 in which is placed the stack of banknotes and a volume 3 which constitutes the volume reserved for the storage of invalidated banknotes. The plate 5 supports a motor 53 driving a note taking and marking device 55, which device is in contact with an ink roller 54. In a variant, the note taking and marking device could itself be self-inked and in this case the inking roller 54 does not have to exist. The device for taking and marking banknotes consists of a roller comprising on its periphery a stamp provided with the appropriate printing pattern, and making it possible to print on one face of the banknotes either a watermark, or the mention "stolen", or the mention "specimen", that is to say any other mention which could indicate that the tickets come from an abnormal circulation circuit. The first bill driven by the bill taking device 55 passes through a leaf stripping device 51, the motorized counterpart 58 of which conveys the bill between guides 52, to come into place in the storage volume 3. A control unit 56 is mounted on the plate and allows the engine to be started when a break-in is detected by the heat detector 8 or the shock and vibration detector 9. Finally a battery 57 or a rechargeable battery ensures the autonomy of the system and the power supply to the control unit and the motor 53.

In operation as soon as a break-in is detected by one of the two detectors 8, 9 the control unit 56 starts the motor 53 which ensures the rotation of the device for taking and marking the banknotes 55. The banknotes driven by this device are taken one by one, printed and deposited in the storage volume 3. As the stack of banknotes located in the volume 7 decreases the plate 5 moves to maintain its pressure and thus frees the storage volume 3 invalidated tickets which is increasing. Insofar as the speed of rotation of the motor is large enough and the thickness and solidity of the case is such that the entire stack of banknotes has been invalidated before the break-in has been carried out, we are assured of '' have a device and a process ensuring that banknotes or documents of value from a box or a briefcase which have been broken cannot be returned to the normal circuits for circulation of banknotes or documents of value.

Figure 2 shows a safe 10 provided with an opening 10a through which passes a device 16 for transporting tickets to the customer side outlet of the automatic cash dispenser thus constituting the so-called distribution channel to the customer. The tickets come from a stack 2 placed in a bill box 11, a bill box provided with a device for advancing the stack constituted by a bottom plate permanently urged by elastic means 111 in the direction of the opening. dispensing 100 of the box 11. A banknote pickup device 55 comprising a stamp is disposed in contact with the top of the banknote stack and driven by a motor 53. The stamp of the device 55 can be brought into contact with an ink roller clutch 54. The ink roller is moved from a rest position to a working position by an electromagnet 540 during a break-in detection. The control of the movement of the ink roller and of the supply of the electromagnet is carried out by a control unit 56 which receives the signals from a heat detector 8 and a shock and vibration detector 9. The all of the control box, detectors, electromagnets and motors is powered by a battery 57. Furthermore, the safe has inside a device for transporting tickets to the customer distribution port 10a in a known manner by a stripping device 51 and 58, a device for transporting banknotes 12 driven by a motor 120 and a device for detecting multiple banknotes 13. The transport device 12 feeds the banknotes to a switching system 14 which allows the banknotes to be routed either to the transport device 16 leading to customer distribution, or to a rejection channel constituted by a transport device 15. The transport device 15 opens near the work opening of a receptacle for invalidated banknotes 30 which delimits a storage volume reserved for invalidated banknotes 3. The transport devices constituting the distribution channels 16 and the rejection channels 15 are driven by the motor 120 and movement transmission means . The leaf stripping device 51 can be constituted in a known manner by the device disclosed by French patent application 2 453 809 of April 10, 1979. Similarly, the ticket transport devices 12, 16 and 15 are constituted in a known manner by belt systems.

In operation, when there is no attempt to break in, the automatic cash dispenser sends to the control unit 56 a ticket distribution order which starts the motor 53 and the motor 120 ensuring the catch by the roller 55 of a ticket and the transport of this ticket to the dispensing orifice 10a. The referral system 14 will be oriented so as to direct the banknotes towards the storage volume 3 if the detection device 13 detects the passage of several superposed or contiguous banknotes. On the other hand, in the case where the tickets pass one by one, they go to the distribution by the distribution channel 16.

In the event of an attempt to break in the boot, the detectors either of heat or of shocks or vibrations signal this attempt to the control unit 56 and the latter authorizes the supply of the electromagnet 540 which brings the ink roller 54 in contact with the stamp 55. At the same time, the drive of the motor 120 is ensured and the referral system is oriented so as to divert the banknotes to the volume 3 for storing invalid banknotes. In this way the tickets are taken by the roller 55, printed by its stamp and sent to the receptacle 30 of the invalidated tickets. So even in the event that a skilled thief manages to break through the safe, he will only recover tickets that cannot be used by himself.

On the other hand, the banking organization which collects these banknotes can very well go and get the banknotes reimbursed from the Banque de France. Finally, a last advantage of the device is to allow a reduction in the thickness of the shielding of the safes, because the invalidation of a stack of banknotes appearing in the safe takes place in an extremely short time, from the order of the minute, and therefore it is no longer necessary to produce safes which resist break-in attempts for several tens of minutes.

De même les systèmes d'entraînement des dispositifs de transport complémentaires 150 et 18 n'ont pas été représentés.FIG. 3 represents a variant of the device of FIG. 2 in which the same numbering has been kept to designate identical elements. This variant makes it possible to separate tickets not distributed to customers following the detection of the device 13 recognizing the tickets as being superimposed or too close to each other to be properly distributed or having defects, tickets invalidated as a result of an attempt to 'breaking in. This device comprises at the end of the rejection channel 15 a second switching device 17 making it possible to orient the banknotes, either towards a device 150 for transporting the banknotes rejected by the detection device 13 towards a receptacle 151 for banknotes not distributed to customers, either to a transport device 18 bringing the tickets to the invalidation system and to volume 3 for receiving invalid tickets. The invalidation device consists of two stamps 551 and 552 arranged on either side of the transport track. In the variant shown in Figure 4 stamps 551, 552 are integral with the rollers of the transport track 18. In the figure there is shown a single stamp 551 but it is obvious that 552 can either be used as a counterpart, or wear a other stamp, identical or not. At least one of the stamps can be brought into contact with an ink roller 54. The arrangement of the two stamps makes it possible to ensure the printing of the banknotes on at least one of their faces in the case of the passage of superimposed banknotes. inking of the two stamps is carried out by rotation of the stamps one on the other during the time intervals or a ticket does not pass between them. The timbre drive motor has not been shown. In a variant, it can be imagined that the stamps have sufficient relief to ensure perforation of the banknotes which would make it possible to avoid the use of the ink rollers 54. The banknotes are taken up by a banknote pickup device 550 driven in rotation by a motor 53. In this case the device 550 does not have a stamp and is not inked. Likewise, the drive systems of the complementary transport devices 150 and 18 have not been shown.

In normal operation, the device distributes the banknotes either to the distribution channel 16 or to the rejection channel 150, in the event of banknotes decreed not distributable by the detection. As soon as an attempted break-in is detected, the control unit 56 blocks the referral system 17 and 14 so as to direct the banknotes towards the volume 3 for receiving the invalidated banknotes. The tickets being driven being supplied by the motors 53 and 120 and by the stamp drive motor, the tickets are routed in the direction of volume 3.

It is obvious that other modifications within the reach of the skilled person are also part of the invention. Thus, for example, the invalidation could be carried out by an ink jet or by electrostatic discharge or by any known printing means.
