Abstract
Description
- This invention has as its object a device to maintain separate until the moment of use, two different substances and particularly two-component resins, to mix them at the moment of use and to expel them through output, comprising a cartridge, tube, or the like, a membrane located inside said cartridge, tube of the like, so as to divide it into two separate chambers, to maintain the two substances separate until the moment of use, a piston provided with means for perforating said membrane and holes to allow the passage of the two substances during the mixing thereof.
- The DE-A 2 948 748 publication relates to a cartridge to maintain separate until the moment of use the two components of a resin, with a membrane, i.e. of a thin aluminium metal sheet, located inside said cartridge so as to divide it into two separate chambers, to maintain the two substances separate until the moment of use, a piston to break said membrane and to mix the two components expelling them through output.
- The FR-
A 2 129 178 patent relates to a device having the shape of a syringe in which two different substances, particularly a cosmetic active product and an excipient, are maintained separate through a membrane until the moment of use and then mixed, the piston being provided with a perforator of said membrane. - The device according to the present invention differs from those of said two prior art citations being characterized in that the membrane is provided with an annular periphery tight with respect of the walls of the cartridge, tube or the like and with means to fasten said annular periphery to the piston after the perforation of the membrane, in order to act as a complementary piston during the mixing of the two substances.
- According to a preferred embodiment, said annular periphery of the membrane exhibits on the outside at least an O ring, tight with respect to the walls of the cartridge, tube or the lilke and on the inside an annular projection which is inserted in a complementary groove of piston.
- The advantages of the device according to the present invention with respect to those of the two prior art citations are the following:
- a) the fact that in the device according to the present invention, the membrane, after perforation, being fastened to the piston, allows the perfect mixing of the two substances since the membrane does not hinder the movement of the piston;
- b) the presence of the annular 0 ring, at the periphery of the membrane, allows the perfect sliding of the piston;
- c) all the mixed resin can be expelled from the container.
- The accompanying drawing represents:
- - in fig. 1 the axial section of a preferred embodiment of the device in question, in a non-limiting, non- binding way;
- - in fig. 2 a variant of said embodiment.
- The device according to said embodiment, applied to any cartridge, tube or container 1 (fig. 1), with an
output opening 2 that can be closed bycap 3, makes it possible to create twoseparate chambers 6, 7 in each of which is contained a substance different from the other, for example, two components of a resin, i.e.resin 6 and harderer 7, which must be kept separate until the moment of use and, when it is desired to use them, must be intimately mixed and then distributed by opening 2 aftercap 3 androd 5 are removed. - To obtain this, the device comprises
membrane 4 which is easy to perforate, made, for example, of synthetic resin or sheet metal, exhibiting annular periphery 4' reinforced, i.e. thickened to allow sliding along the inside walls of container 1. - During storage of all the material,
membrane 4 keeps the two substances separate. - At the moment of use, by acting on
handle 11 ofrod 5 in the direction ofarrow 12 and optionally also by causing rotation in the direction ofarrow 17,membrane 4 is perforated bypoints 8 solid withdisk 14. - By repeatedly moving the unit made up of
perforated membrane 4 anddisk 14 in both directions, axially along container 1, the twoliquids 6, 7 are drawn from onechamber 6, 7 to the other until the mixing is complete, after which, withcap 3 androd 5 removed, the mixture is made to come out ofopening 2, optionally screwing a flexible distribution tube on the threads of the cap. - Annular periphery 4' of
membrane 4 exhibitsO ring 16 made, for exaple, of teflon (polytetrafluoroethylene), neoprene, etc. while ribbing 4" insidering 4', ribbing which is inserted in complementary annular groove 15 ofdisk 14, assures the dragging of the entire unit. -
Disk 14 exhibitsholes 13 that work withholes 10 made inmembrane 4 bypoints 8 to allow the passage of the two liquids contained inchamber 6, 7 from one chamber to the other. - The
bottom 18 can slide also in a tight manner along the inside walls of cartridge, tube or container 1, driven by an ejection piston (not shown) or with compressed air in the direction ofarrow 19, afterrod 5 is removed. - Figure 2 illustrates a variant according to which
rod 5 is introduced tight frombottom 18. -
Perforation points 8 can be replaced by any other means suitable for perforatingmembrane 4 according to small disks that disappear in the mixture of the twosubstances 6 and 7. Rotation ofrod 5 makes it possible also to cut the rings of the membrane bypoints 8. -
Rod 5 can have a polygonal section and exhibit a side pin to be able to insert it like a bayonet intodisk 14 and pull it out when it is necessary to distribute the mixture from opening 2.
