Abstract

A gas scavenging apparatus for a metallurgical vessel containing molten metal includes a frusto-conical refractory inner scavenging block inserted in the refractory lining of the vessel and having a smaller end surface facing the molten metal and a larger base end directed away from the molten metal. A frusto-conical refractory outer scavenging block is embedded within a mounting brick positioned outwardly of the inner scavenging block. The outer scavenging block has a smaller end surface smaller than and facing the larger base end of the inner scavenging block and a larger base end directed away from the inner scavenging block. The larger base end of the inner scavenging block has an annular end surface extending generally radially outwardly away from the smaller end surface of the outer scavenging block and resting on the mounting brick. Scavenging gas is passed through the outer scavenging block and then through the inner scavenging block to the molten metal. The inner scavenging block does not load the outer scavenging block. The inner scavenging block may be replaced when necessary due to erosion by the molten metal, but the outer scavenging block does not require replacement.

Description

The invention relates to a gas purging device for melt containers, in particular in induction furnaces, with a gas purging cone, the smaller top surface of which faces the melt and the larger base surface of which stands up.

Such a gas purging device is described in the magazine "Foundry 72", 1985, No. 6, pages 133 to 138. There the gas purge cone stands on a coarse ramming mass. If the gas flushing cone is to be replaced, the ramming compound must also be replaced.

In DE-OS 32 50 097 filler material is provided for the gas purging plug, which has a melting point below the temperature of the melt. If melt occurs on the filling material, a closure is formed which prevents melt breakthrough. However, this also interrupts the gas purging process.

Im Verschleißfall ist der Gasspülvorgang unterbrochen und beide Stopfen werden ausgetauscht.GB-A-2 150 868 is also to be mentioned as prior art, in which a gas purging device of the type mentioned above is described. In this case, an inert material due to the penetration of melt when the upper plug wears out is arranged under an upper gas purging plug and a lower gas purging plug is arranged beneath it. In the event of wear, the gas purging process is interrupted and both plugs are replaced.

The object of the invention is to propose a gas purging device with a purging option secured during the operating phase, the gas purging cone, which is primarily exposed to wear, being easily replaceable and the lower gas purging cone being reusable.

According to the invention, the above object is achieved with a gas purging device, a second, lower gas purging cone standing under the said first, upper gas purging cone, the top surface of which is smaller than the bottom surface of the first gas purging cone, and that the first, upper gas purging cone with its, the top surface of the second Gasspülkels projecting ring zone of the bottom surface stands on a stone in which the second gas purging cone is stored.

The upper gas purging cone is easily replaceable in this arrangement. It does not burden the lower gas purging cone. Favorable purging conditions are present during operation, since the cross section of the upper gas purging cone does not taper immediately as seen from the top surface of the lower gas purging cone, but initially widens.

The gas purging device according to the invention can be used, for example, in the aluminum industry, in gray cast iron production, in steel ladles, pig iron transport vessels, continuous casting distributors or converters.

Advantageous refinements of the invention result from the subclaims and the following description of an exemplary embodiment. The drawing shows a gas purging device in section.

A first, upper gas purging cone 3 without a sheet metal jacket is inserted into the floor lining 1 of a melt container 2. Its head surface 3 'protrudes into the melt container 2. A recess 5 is provided on its bottom surface 3 ", which is enclosed by an annular zone 5 of the bottom surface 3".

Under the gas purging cone 3, a square stone 6 sits in the floor lining 1, into which a second, lower gas purging cone 7 is walled by means of a gas-tight mortar 8. The ring zone 5 sits on the stone 6 in the vicinity of the top surface 7 '. The head surface 7 'protrudes into the recess 4 without resting on the gas purge cone 3. A pressure distribution chamber 9 lies between the head surface 7 'and the gas purge cone 3. The head surfaces 7' can be of different sizes.

The gas flushing cone 7 sits with its lower region in a sheet metal jacket 10, which holds a base plate 11. A gas distribution chamber 12 is formed on the bottom surface 7 ", from which capillaries 13 lead to the top surface 7 '. The bottom surface 7" and the bottom surface 3 "can be of different sizes.

A gas feed line 15, which is laid in a carrier 15, opens into the gas distribution chamber 12. The stone 6 is attached to the gas flushing cone 7 on this. Eyelets 16 are provided for transport. This creates an easy-to-use unit consisting of the carrier 15, the stone 6 and the gas flushing cone 7.

A gas source with a flow meter, which indicates wear of the porous gas flushing cone 3, is connected to the gas supply line 14.

A secure gas flow is ensured by the arrangement described. If the gas purging cone 3 is to be replaced due to wear, the unit 15, 6, 7 is removed for this purpose and a fresh gas purging cone 3 is inserted. The gas purging cone 7 is practically not subject to wear. The gas purging cone 3 can also be fastened with its ring zone 5 onto the stone 6 by means of a gas-tight mortar layer before the assembly is inserted into the floor brick 1.

Since the gas purge cone 3 is used without a sheet metal jacket, there is no need to fear electrical flashovers in an induction oven. The gas purge cone 3 has an exclusively ceramic material contact with the melt.
