Abstract

The invention relates to a device for alternate-lay helical stranding of a cable with at least one stranding element around a core element using a strand-laying disc driven with alternating direction of twist and a stationary disc and with strand offset discs driven in the same direction as the strand-laying disc and at the rate of the alternating twist and arranged between the stationary disc and the strand-laying disc. The fluctuations in length of the sections of the stranding elements stored intermittently between the stationary disc and the strand-laying disc are reduced by the fact that the strand offset discs (15 to 21) are driven with essentially the same rotational speed but at an angle of twist that reduces in stages towards the stationary disc (14) in such a manner that during each half period (t1 or tr) of the alternate-lay helical stranding (clockwise or anticlockwise) rotation of the strand offset disc (21) adjacent to the strand-laying disc (11) starts with a delay of a defined angle of rotation beta and that of the following strand offset discs (20 to 15) starts with a delay of an angle of rotation of an equal amount compared with the previous discs (21 to 16). <IMAGE>
