Definitions
- the invention relates to the cooling of continuous casting cylinders between cylinders.
- Cooled cylinders are known, for example from document FR-A-1567196, which shows a jacket surrounding the cylinder and crossed by numerous submerged axial pipes; US-A-3038219 showing axial circulation channels formed on the cylinder body, below the copper envelope which surrounds it; FR-A-1198006 showing circumferential channels housed in the cylinder body and covered by a copper hoop.
- the object of the invention is to provide a cooled cylinder which does not have the aforementioned drawbacks, of a relatively simple construction, allowing more efficient cooling and not being subject to deformations detrimental to the quality of the cast product.
- the invention provides a cylinder comprising a cylindrical body surrounded by an envelope; parallel cooling fluid circulation channels arranged circumferentially between the body and the casing; fluid inlet and outlet manifolds and fluid inlet and return pipes passing through the body and connecting the manifolds to the circulation channels.
- This cylinder is characterized in that the channels consist of groups of grooves formed on the inner surface of the envelope, extending over arcs of circumferences organizing circulation in distinct and separate sectors, mounted in parallel hydraulically with each other, in that axial grooves are provided between the body and the casing at the two ends of each sector and into which open, on the one hand into their bottom, the supply and return pipes of the cooling fluid, and on the other laterally, the grooves of a group by one of their ends, and in that the coolant inlet and outlet manifolds are coaxial with each other and with the cylindrical body.
- the machining of the circulation channels in the envelope is easy. Such a location of the channels also makes it possible to offer three heat exchange surfaces with the cooling water.
- the width and spacing of the channels are easily calculated so as not to cause the envelope to collapse or swell. These deformations are all the less to be feared as the organization of the circumferential circulation into distinct sectors avoids reaching undesirable pressures (greater than 7 bars) which would cause a detachment of the copper.
- a distribution in three angular sectors of 120 ° each is particularly advantageous.
- a larger number increases the number of elbows and therefore increases the pressure losses, which makes it necessary to increase the inlet pressure.
- a smaller number increases the length of the circuits in the circulation channels and therefore also the pressure drops.
- the fact that the sectors are distinct, therefore independent of each other, allows a uniform circulation of the coolant over the entire periphery of the cylinder, for example in the direction opposite to that of its rotation. We will thus establish a "counter-current" circulation with the cast product, which is known to be more efficient than a "co-current" circulation in terms of heat exchange.
- the preferred speed of water circulation is around 6 m / s.
- a higher speed is not desirable, because it causes a significant increase in pressure drops.
- the cooling cylinder is supplied with water through a double-flow rotating joint, specially designed to meet the specific specifications required, taking into account the vicinity of the molten metal: water flow (approximately 40 m / h) under low pressure and, to limit pressure losses, at the lowest possible speed (apart from the restriction of the circulation channels where the speed is approximately 6 m / s); low cylinder rotation speed (approx. 30 rpm).
- Each cylinder of the invention is composed of a cooling drum 1 to which are fixed pins 2, 2 ′ rotating in bearings 3, 3 ′ with ball joints, mounted on a chassis not shown.
- the pins 2, 2 ' are fixed by means of flanges 4, 4' enclosing the drum 1 and held together by fixing elements, or tie rods (bolts 5) passing through the drum 1.
- the pin 2 is coupled in a conventional manner (eg universal joint) to rotation drive means / not shown.
- the pin 2 ' connected by an intermediate fixing flange 8 to a device for supplying cooling water 9, is hollow to allow passage of the inlet 6 and outlet 7 coaxial manifolds to the drum 1.
- the supply device 9 comprises a fixed pipe 10 for the water inlet and a fixed pipe 11 for the water outlet, inserted radially on a fixed casing 12.
- a cylindrical sleeve 13, fixed to the flange 8, is secured in rotation of the pin 2 ', and turns in the casing 12 by means of the ball bearings 14.
- the sleeve 13 has a blind central bore 6 'extending the manifold 6, and an annular chamber 7' surrounding the bore 6 ', extending the annular manifold 7.
- Peripheral grooves facing each other, formed in the socket 13 and the casing 12, constitute two annular chambers 15 and 16 of the supply device, communicating respectively with the pipes 10 and 11.
- Radial channels 17 make the bore 6 'communicate with the chamber 16 and therefore with the outlet 11.
- the annular chamber 7 opens directly into the chamber 15 and can therefore communicate with the inlet 10.
- the drum 1 consists of a cylindrical support body 19 made of steel, placed in a casing 20 of copper. crown flanges 21, laterally overlapping the body 19 and the envelope 20, are fixed to the body 19 and thus immobilize the envelope 20.
- the body 19 has a central bore formed by two parts 22, 23, of different diameter.
- the part 22, of smaller diameter comes in the extension of the outlet manifold 6 which advances to the interior of the drum and bears against a shoulder formed between the two parts 22, 23.
- the part 23, of larger diameter surrounds the advanced end of the outlet manifold 6, and forms therewith and with the abovementioned shoulder, an annular chamber 24, into which the inlet manifold 7 opens out.
- Part 22 and the journal 2 define a central chamber 25.
- Pairs of radial supply 27 and return 26 pipes radiate from the inlet and outlet chambers 24 and respectively, and open into the grooves 28 and 28 ′, machined at the periphery of the body 19, parallel to its axis.
- the water circulation is organized into three independent sectors I, II, III, of 120 ° each, mounted in parallel with each other hydraulically, and each comprising, in the direction of circulation of the water, a radial supply pipe 27, coming from the inlet manifold 7 and opening into the bottom of a first axial groove 28, said groove 28 distributing the cooling water in the parallel grooves 29, said grooves 29 laterally which open into a second axial groove 28 ', at an angular distance of approximately 120 ° from the first, said groove 28' which collects water towards the radial return pipe 26, and said return pipe 26 which supplies the outlet manifold 6.
- the cooling water follows, from inlet 10 to outlet 11, a path indicated by the arrows. It can be seen, in particular in FIG. 2, that the water circulates in all the sectors in the same direction, trigonometric or antitrigonometric, determined so that, in the sectors in contact with the cast metal (sectors I, II to left in Figure 2), the circulation is ascending, that is to say opposite to the direction of movement of the cast product.
- the full body 19 is made lighter by cavities 30 (only one has been shown in FIG. 2, but there may be several in each sector), which is taken advantage of by installing measuring devices (thermocouples, etc.). ) and / or data recording systems (in particular measurement) such as RAM, or receivers, etc., intended to be able to better follow the continuous casting process between cylinders.
- the cylindrical body 19 may consist of a simple ferrule pressed against the inner periphery of the envelope 20.
- the axial grooves 28 and 28 ′ have been provided in particular to allow the radial pipes 26 and 27 to be limited to two per sector.
- the water inlets and outlets by single collectors such as 6 and 7, coaxial with each other and with the body cylindrical 19, allow, if necessary, to modify the number of sectors on a given cylinder, without too much difficulty, by means of usual machining and mounting operations.

Abstract
Description
- - soit un transfert en ébullition nuclée, c.à.d. la formation de fines bulles de vapeur à la surface, qui se recon- densent dans le liquide environnant. L'accumulation de ces bulles constitue un véritable "bouchon de vapeur" dans le circuit et bloque le passage de l'eau. On sait qu'en lingotière de coulée continue classique, le sens de passage de l'eau de refroidissement est remontant, du bas vers le haut, pour que la vapeur monte naturellement avec l'eau, sans opposition. La circulation de l'eau de refroidissement dans les secteurs séparés des cylindres selon l'invention est organisée pour reproduire cette même condition ;
- - la figure 1 est une vue en coupe axiale d'un cylindre et de son dispositif d'alimentation en eau de refroidissement ;
