Description

Stand der TechnikState of the art

The invention relates to a packaging container with a pressure relief valve according to the preamble of claim 1. In a packaging container of this type, known for example from US-A-4 051 973, the strip-shaped membrane spans an outwardly curved part of the lid of the container in which the Passage opening is arranged. The membrane is fastened to the curvature of the lid with two opposite edge regions, the middle, free part delimiting a channel which is expanded in the interior of the container in the event of overpressure and is closed in the case of constant or negative pressure. The relatively large passage opening forms a large pressure application area for the membrane; through them, however, filler particles can get into the channel and settle there, so that a complete contact of the membrane on the container wall is prevented after the pressure has decreased. Air cannulas and microbes can get into the interior of the container through cannulas thus formed and spoil the packaged goods. Since the membrane has to conform to the shape of the wall to seal and to expand by releasing it to release the pressure, it is made of an elastic material. In order to stretch the membrane so far that its central part lifts off the container wall, a large excess pressure is required, which the entire container must withstand.

Furthermore, a packaging container is known from US-A-2 927 722, in which the walls are formed from a flexible packaging material and the membrane forming the valve member is fastened thereon via a passage opening with a relatively large cross-section. This arrangement has the disadvantage that in the case of a package containing granular or powdery particles, for example ground coffee, good particles can pass through the passage opening into the degassing channel and can get caught there, so that a tight closing of the valve is no longer possible. Furthermore, it is disadvantageous in the case of non-rigid contents of the container that the initially flat wall of the packaging container is deformed by the displacement of particles of the contents, with the result that stresses occur in the free part of the membrane covering the channel, by which the valve only opens when high internal pressure is possible. In this case, the package is deformed unsightly, so that the consumer suspects a spoiled product.

In order to avoid stressing the valve membrane by deforming the container wall in packaging containers made of flexible packaging material, a pressure relief valve for a packaging container has become known, for example, from EP-A-23 703, in which a membrane forming the valve member on an annular base part made of relatively rigid material is attached. The base part carrying the membrane is firmly glued to the container wall and prevents the membrane from deforming when the container walls are deformed.

Vorteile der ErfindungAdvantages of the invention

The packaging container according to the invention with the characterizing features of claim 1 asked the advantage that when a stiff, flat packing wall and a simple valve membrane are arranged, opening of the pressure relief valve is already guaranteed at a certain, low overpressure in the package, since the indentation means that A pressure effective area is created through the passage opening, which is decisive for the opening pressure. As a result, with a simple design of the pressure relief valve, a safe discharge of gas from the package is ensured even at a low pressure and a tight reclosing of the pressure relief valve when the pressure drops to a certain level.

The measures listed in the subclaims enable advantageous improvements to the packaging container specified in claim 1.

Zeichnungdrawing

An embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawing and explained in more detail in the following description. FIG. 1 shows a packaging container with a pressure relief valve in a diagrammatic representation, and FIG. 2 shows the cross section of the head region of the packaging container according to FIG. 1.

Beschreibung des AusführungsbeispielsDescription of the embodiment

The packaging container consists of a tubular or sleeve-shaped body 1 and of two covers 2, 3 closing its openings. It is water-vapor and gas-tight and is particularly suitable for holding air and moisture-sensitive food and beverages.

The body 1 of the packaging container is formed from a multilayer packaging material which has a weldable, thermoplastic layer on the inside. In the illustrated embodiment, the fuselage 1 has a square cross section with rounded corners; however, its cross-sectional shape can also be circular, oval, rectangular or polygonal, the corners being arcuate. The two covers 2, 3 which close the openings of the fuselage 1 have a flat wall 5 and a U-shaped folded edge 6 which delimits them and which is adapted to the cross-sectional shape of the fuselage 1 and which engages around the ends of the fuselage 1 and seals them tightly with their inside and outside is. The lids 2, 3 are by deep drawing or deep drawing a multi-layer, relatively stiff packaging material sheet, which also carries a weldable, thermoplastic layer on the inside. The cover and the body material preferably also have a layer which acts as a gas and water vapor barrier, for example made of aluminum.

In order to prevent air from the environment from penetrating into the interior of the container on the one hand, so that the oxygen-sensitive material spoils, and on the other hand the gas released by the packaged material, for example freshly roasted coffee, kefir, yogurt, etc., can escape from the interior of the container without the container deforming or even bursting, it is equipped with a pressure relief valve 10. This pressure relief valve 10 is preferably arranged on the head cover 2 on its flat wall 5, so that the upwardly protruding folded edge 6 protects against external pressure from adjacent packs or other objects. The pressure relief valve 10 has a membrane 11 made of a flexible, 30 μm thick plastic film. The membrane 11 preferably has a circular area, but this can also be square with rounded corners. The membrane 11 lies on the wall 5 of the lid 2 and closes a passage opening 12 in the wall of the lid 2. It is fastened by means of two parallel adhesive strips 13 in mutually opposite edge zones on the top of the lid 2. The membrane 11, with its central zone lying between the two adhesive strips 13, delimits from above a channel 14 which is delimited at the bottom by the top of the wall 5 of the cover 2.

The passage opening 12 in the wall 5 of the lid 2 has a relatively small width, so that gas, but no particles of the filling material can pass through. It is preferably made by inserting a slot. In order to create a pressure active surface on the membrane 11 which is continuously exposed to the pressure inside the packaging container, the flat wall 5 of the cover 2 is dented around the passage opening 12 towards the inside of the packaging container. The indentation 16 has the shape of a spherical cap or a cone. The width of the indentation 16 at its root corresponds approximately to the width of the channel 14 or the distance between the two adhesive strips 13; depending on the desired opening pressure of the pressure relief valve 10, it is in a range between 5 and 10 mm. The greatest depth of the indentation 16 is approximately 0.5 to 1 mm. In order to prevent diffusion of ambient air through the channel 14 closed by the membrane 11, a liquid sealant, for example silicone oil, is introduced therein.

In order to avoid leakage of the pressure relief valve 10 in the event of temperature changes due to uneven thermal expansion of the membrane 11 and the wall 5, a material is selected for the membrane 11, the thermal expansion coefficient of which is approximately equal to that of the material of the cover 2.

The pressure relief valve described acts as follows: Through the passage opening 12 in the wall 5 of the cover 2, the pressure prevailing in the interior of the packaging container acts on the surface of the membrane 11 which coincides with the indentation 16. At a pressure of approximately 5 mbar, the mean, zone 14 of membrane 11 covering channel 14, so that channel 14 widens and gas can flow from inside the packing through the channel. After releasing a certain amount of gas and the associated pressure reduction in the interior of the packaging container, the central zone of the membrane 11 covering the channel 14 rests on the top of the wall 5, and the liquid film formed by the sealant also closes the pressure relief valve 10 in a gas-tight manner.
