Abstract

Différents procédés de moulage de matériaux thermoplastiques moussables sont décrits. Une méthode décrite implique le moussage de matériaux thermoplastiques dans un moule ayant un noyau "de remplacement" qui peut comprendre plusieurs organes interposés entre deux parties d'un moule. Le matériau thermoplastique est placé entre les parties de moule et le (ou chacun) des organes de noyau de remplacement interposés. De cette manière, une pluralité d'articles moulés en mousse sont produits en une seule opération de moulage. Le noyau de remplacement peut consister en une préforme en matériau thermoplastique de sorte qu'il est possible de mouler une construction en sandwich composite. Un autre procédé décrit permet la production d'articles en matériau thermoplastique ayant une structure cellulaire déformée uniformément obtenue en chauffant le matériau à mousser pendant qu'il est maintenu sous pression. Lors de la libération de la pression, une expansion rapide du matériau moussant a lieu, laquelle est contrainte par la forme du moule. Comme résultat, on obtient une structure cellulaire dans l'article moussé, les dimensions de la cellule dans une ou plusieurs directions étant différentes des dimensions dans d'autres directions. Deux méthodes permettant d'obtenir ce résultat sont décrites. Il est également décrit le moulage de matériaux thermoplastiques en utilisant une unité de pression à diaphragme ayant un diaphragme élastomère hermétiquement étiré en travers d'une surface d'une partie de poinçonnage d'un moule. En utilisant cette unité pour tenir le matériau de la préforme sous pression jusqu'à atteindre la température de moussage puis libérer soudainement la pression sur le diaphragme, on obtient un matériau moussé avec les caractéristiques décrites.
