Abstract

The ballast circuit (10a) is provided with a storage device (18) which contains details of the rated current of the associated fluorescent lamp. These details are supplied to a multiplier (19) which also receives a control signal from a control circuit (20). The output signal of the multiplier (19) is used for generating a reference voltage (Uref) which controls the lamp current of the ballast circuit. A plurality of ballast circuits (10a, 10b), which are fitted with lamps of different power, can be controlled by a common control circuit (20), each of the connected lamps being operated with a current which corresponds to a specific percentage proportion of the rated current. <IMAGE>
