Claims (4)

1. An electrical connector of the type known as "hermaphrodite", which comprises two identical casing elements (1-2), one of which is turned top to bottom and upside down with respect to the first, each element (1-2) comprising a male portion (22) intended for being inserted in a female portion (23) of the other element (1-2) and a female portion (23) intended for receiving the male portion (22) of the said other element, the male portion (22) being bounded by two sidewalls (22a) and two other walls (22b and 22c), whilst the female portion (23) is bounded by two sidewalls (23a) and two other walls (23b and 23c), each of the male and female portions (22-23) including a series of channels (3, 3a) each intended for receiving one electrical contact member (4) connected to an electrical conductor (6), the said electrical contact members seated in the channels (3) in the male portions being complementary to those seated in the channels (30) in the female portions, and locking means being provided for keeping the said casing elements assembled, characterized in that the female portion of each casing element (23) has grooves (39) in sidewalls (23a) whilst the male portion (22) of each casing element has on its sidewalls (22a) projecting ribs (38) intended for cooperating with the grooves (39), each rib (38) being provided at its free end with a sloping ramp (40), the wall (22b) of the male portion (22) opposite that (22c) adjacent to the female portion (23) including a locking (22a) projecting ribs (38) intended for cooperating with the grooves (39), each rib (38) being provided at its free end with a sloping ramp (40), the wall (22b) of the male portion (22) opposite that (22c) adjacent to the female portion (23) including a locking foot (25) which exhibits an elastic portion (31) connected to the said wall (22c) by a rigid rounded portion (27), whilst the inner face of the corresponding wall (23c) of the female portion (23) is provided with a lug (35) intended upon assembly of the two casing elements (1-2) to cooperate with the locking foot (25), the positions of the lug (35), the locking foot and the sloping ramps (40) being such that at the start of assembly of the casing elements (1-2) the lug (35) must ride up the rounded portion (27) and cause a displacement of the said elements (1-2) with respect to one another in divergent directions substantially perpendicular with respect to the axis of engagement of the casing elements in one another, whilst after the lug (35) has ridden up the rounded portion (27) the ramps (40) by cooperating with the grooves (39) bring the elements (1-2) into the normal position of assembly.
2. An electrical connector as in Claim 1, characterized in that the male portion includes a seating (33) into which the elastic locking foot (25) extends.
3. An electrical connector as in Claim 1, characterized in that the elastic locking foot (25) has an intermediate slot into which the lug (35) is inserted in the locked position of the two casing elements (1-2), the said lug (35) exhibiting at the end of it turned towards the inside of the element an abrupt face (37) and at the opposite side a rounded portion (36), whilst the elastic locking foot (25) ends in a boss (29).
4. An electrical connector as in Claim 1 and either of Claims 2 and 3, characterized in that the electrical contact members (4) are of the type known in itself as "hermaphrodite" and are formed of a body provided at one end with means of attachment to an electrical conductor, the said body assuming a rectangular section with a bottom wall (9) provided with an extension (10) folded inwards and ending in a small elastic tongue turned towards the extension.
