Description

The invention relates to a hot air blower of the type specified in the preamble of claim 1.

In addition to the usual hot air blowers operated on the power supply, for example used in electric hand hair dryers, such are already self-sufficient - i.e. independent of the mains - usable hot air blowers are known which contain a gas burner fed from a liquid gas tank as the heat source. DE-OS 31 03 843 describes a hand hair dryer in which the gas burns with an open flame, and a corresponding device with flameless catalytic combustion is known from international patent application WO 83/00 607. In addition, it has been proposed in DE-OS 14 57 415 to generate the warm air for a hair dryer hood in a separate suitcase-like container with the aid of an electrically heated heat store.

All these known devices offer the advantage that they can be operated without a power cord restricting the freedom of movement of the user and that they can also be used where a socket is missing or may not be installed due to existing regulations, but the gas-heated devices set the constant availability of refillable liquefied gas ahead, and the description of the heat storage blower mentioned above contains no technical teaching on how its heat balance can be improved in such a way that it meets the indispensable requirement for small size in a portable or even handheld hair care device Dimensions and light weight meet.

It was therefore the task of demonstrating a self-sufficient hot air blower that - without being dependent on a liquid gas supply - meets the requirements for use in hand-held hair dryers and other portable hair care devices in terms of its dimensions, weight and heating and conveying capacity.

This object is achieved according to the present invention by a hot air blower having the features specified in the characterizing part of patent claim 1. The inventive selection of the heat storage principle known per se for heating the blower air and the division of the air flow into several - preferably 5 to 10 - air ducts passing through the heat storage heating element create a warm air blower that can be used to construct and produce a new type of handy hair care device makes, remarkably within the scope of the dimensions common today in such devices.

In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the air channels of the heating element have a clear width of 5 to 10 mm, so that the favorable values to be demanded for portable hair care devices - in particular for hand-held hair dryers - are achieved both in terms of the flow rate and the heat transfer and thus the heating power and the time profile thereof will. In addition, the heat balance of the heating element can be optimized according to the invention in that the air channels are so distributed over its cross-section that each air channel is assigned geometrically approximately the same amount of heat-storing material, that is to say that each air stream is heated with approximately the same amount of stored heat. This dimensioning, which generally presupposes the same cross-sectional areas of the air channels, can be modified in another embodiment in such a way that the parts of the storage mass assigned to the individual air channels are proportional to different cross-sectional areas of these air channels.

In a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention in terms of production technology, the heating element, which consists, for example, of a ceramic based on A1 2 0 3 and MgO, is subdivided into a number corresponding to the number of air channels, each containing segments of approximately the same mass, the air channel Butt joints between these segments are preferably filled with a leveling compound. This balancing mass can on the one hand prevent an undefined thermal contact between the segments due to unevenness in their abutting surfaces; secondly, by selecting a more or less thermally conductive filler, the heat balance of the entire heating element can be influenced in a targeted manner.

Furthermore, a number of embodiments of the invention are proposed (claims 7 to 10) with which different flow profiles of the heated air can be generated, so that, taking into account the requirements placed on the hair care devices to be equipped with warm air blowers, the optimum shape can be selected in each case . For example, the flow pattern can be influenced by providing various helical channels as an alternative or in addition to the usually straight-line air channels, and the air channels can have a cross-section that changes from the air inlet side to the air outlet side, in particular narrowing.

The electrical heating conductors provided for heating the heating element can run within the storage material, but are preferably arranged along the walls of the air ducts, where they - e.g. B. in the form of wire heating coils - embedded in the walls of the air ducts in the manufacture of the heating elements. In the present case, it is particularly advantageous to design the heating conductors in the form of layers of an electrical resistance material applied to the walls of the air ducts, resistance layers produced by vapor deposition being proposed in particular. Finally, the walls of the air channels can be used to reduce the air flow resistance with a smooth one, in particular made of a lacquer or one Glaze existing surface layer.

In a further advantageous embodiment of the hot-air blower according to the invention, its heat storage heating element is surrounded by a heat-insulating jacket, and on the outside thereof - but within the device housing - there is at least one intake duct, which in particular has an annular cross section comprising the heating element and through which the Blower drawn cold air is directed against the flow direction generated in the air channels of the storage element to the air inlet side of the blower. This arrangement has the effect that heating of the outer surface of the heat-insulating jacket, which despite its heat-insulating property cannot be completely avoided during the heating-up phase, is used to preheat the sucked-in air when the fan is started up.

It is particularly expedient to arrange a mixing chamber between the heating element and the blow-out opening of the warm air blower, into which the air channels of the heating element open and in which a swirling and intimate mixing of the individual air streams takes place, with the result that the air flow leaving the blow-out opening of the blower over one the entire cross-section has a uniform temperature distribution.

To heat the heat storage heating element and to charge the accumulators feeding the blower motor, it is advantageous to integrate a plug unit directly into the blower housing, with which it can be connected to a corresponding socket of a power supply unit. It is expedient to provide two pairs of plug contacts, one of which is used to heat the heating element by means of mains voltage and the second is used to charge the electrical accumulators by means of a suitable DC voltage generated in the mains unit. It can be ensured by constructive design of the plug unit on one side and the socket on the other that these two parts can only be inserted into one another in the correct position, so that incorrect polarity can be avoided. In the case of the particularly advantageous use of the warm air blower according to the invention as a hand-held hair dryer, in which it has a so-called pistol grip, the plug unit mentioned is expediently arranged on the end face of the grip end.

The drawing illustrates the subject matter of the invention using the example of hand-hair dryers equipped with it, and in fact show in very simplified schematic diagrams
  • 1 shows the cross section of a hand-held hair dryer according to the invention in its loading position, in which the hair dryer is connected to a power supply unit via the plug unit integrated in its so-called pistol grip,
  • FIG. 2 shows a hand-held hair dryer in which the intake air - as explained above - is guided to the blower in the counterflow principle,
  • Figure 3 shows a cross-section reproduced on a larger scale through a heat storage heating element according to the invention.

As FIG. 1 shows, the hand hair dryer according to the invention contains a heat storage heating element 1, which is enclosed by a heat-insulating jacket 4 and through which a plurality of air channels 2 is penetrated in the direction of its longitudinal axis A. The fan consisting of a low-voltage DC motor 5, a fan wheel 6 and a guide wheel 7 presses the air sucked in through the intake grille 8.1 through the air channels 2. After the individual air streams in the air channels 2 have been heated, they reach the mixing chamber 18, in which they are intimately mixed by swirling, so that the air stream emerging through the outlet opening 17 has a uniform temperature distribution over its cross section.

The device housing 9 has a so-called pistol grip 9.1, in which the electric accumulators 14 serving to supply the blower motor and a switch 15, with which the various operating states of the device can be set via its handle 15.1, are accommodated. On its end face, the handle 9.1 has two connector pairs 10 and 11, of which only one connector is visible and via which the hand-hair dryer by inserting its handle 9.1 into a corresponding recess of the charger 16 with corresponding socket pairs 12 and 13 of the charger in electrical contact can be brought. In the interest of clarity of the illustration, the entire internal wiring of the device has been omitted, and the electrical resistance heating elements of the heat accumulator 2 have also been omitted.

In the embodiment shown in FIG. 2, the cold air intake grille 8.1 is moved into the area of the outlet opening 17 of the device, so that the air reaches the blower unit 5, 6, 7 through the intake duct 8 surrounding the heating element.

The heating element here consists of nine segments 1.1 each containing an air duct 2, the butt joints of which are filled with a leveling compound 1.2. In the embodiment shown, the electrical resistors for heating the heat storage segments 1.1 have the form of coatings 3 which are preferably produced by vapor deposition. To reduce the flow resistance, the wall surfaces 2.1 of the air ducts 2 have a smooth coating, which consists in particular of a lacquer or a glaze .
