Definitions

  • the present invention relates to control and closure capsules for mouths of bottles of the type containing gas under pressure.
  • FR-A-2 134.252 describes and illustrates a safety shutter for the outlet end of a tap for a liquefied gas cylinder.
  • This shutter is a capsule made of thermoplastic material. Two sealing stages are not provided in the capsule structure according to this cited document.
  • FR-A-2 391.402 describes and illustrates a metal closure cap fitted internally with a plastic seal.
  • the plastic seal has a stepped profile comprising a central part. This structure does not have two sealing stages.
  • FR-A-2 228 682 describes and illustrates a plastic capsule, the essential characteristic of which is to include one or more rupture lines forming an integral part of the release tab or of the capsule.
  • FR-A-2 163 324 describes and illustrates a plastic plug whose tearing member is in the form of a ring provided at the end of a tab which is attached to the upper part of the outer skirt of the plug along a certain arc of its periphery.
  • the present invention now provides another type of capsule which also guarantees the inviolability and the tightness of the mouth of a gas cylinder.
  • the capsule according to the invention has the advantage of being produced in a single piece, in one piece, and on the one hand constituting a true witness which guarantees the conservation of the bottle in its original state, and on the other hand, an effective shutter against the risk of accidental leaks.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide a capsule which achieves two levels of tightness; a permanent primary seal resulting from the placing of the capsule on the mouth and an automatic secondary seal in the event of accidental opening of the valve; this second seal reinforcing and completing the primary seal.
  • the invention also aims to produce a capsule which has two sealing stages in order to be able to adapt to different types of gas bottle mouths and in particular to mouths with an orifice provided either with a cylindrical seal or with a ball valve which regulates the operating pressure.
  • a portion of the skirt constitutes, between two thinnings along generatrices, a tongue extending, beyond the skirt by a tearing ring arranged in a plane substantially inclined relative to said tongue , said ring allowing the capsule to be released from the mouth.
  • the tongue is extended, beyond the skirt by a tab arranged in a parallel plane and slightly offset towards the outside, relative to the tongue.
  • a buttress is arranged between the tongue and the tab, to increase the stiffness of said tab relative to said tongue.
  • the deformability of the capsule material is such that its removal from the mouth of the bottle by simple axial displacement is practically impossible without visible deterioration of said capsule.
  • the removal of the capsule by rotation is also made impossible without visible deterioration by means of a tab which extends beyond the skirt and in a plane tangential to the latter; said tab constitutes the extension of a second tearing tab diametrically opposite to the first tab provided with the grip ring.
  • the central projection has an axial cavity open on the inside of the orifice; this cavity extends over the entire length of the projection and the cylindrical wall of the latter is such that, when the cavity becomes subjected to the internal pressure of the bottle, this results in a radial expansion of said cylindrical wall sufficient to cause an increase corresponding sealing.
  • the capsule shown in FIG. 1 is first of all made up of a cylindrical skirt 1 and a bottom 2 bordering the skirt 1.
  • the internal wall of the bottom 2 has a projection 6 which extends axially over the entire depth of the capsule.
  • the projection 6 consists of a circular sole 7, a first cylindrical part 8 and a second cylindrical part 9 of reduced diameter ending in the form of a spherical zone 10.
  • the projection 6 also has an axial cavity 11, which extends from the bottom 2. This cavity 11 is open on the side opposite the bottom 2 and it has an ogival shape obtained directly from molding.
  • the capsule is made in one piece, in an elastically deformable plastic material so that, on the one hand, it can be put in place by forced fitting of the protruding parts of the skirt 1 onto the male thread of the mouth 12, up to the abutment of the annular internal face of the bottom 2 on the edge of said mouth 12 and, on the other hand, allow a radial deformation, by expansion, of the projection 6 when there prevails, in the cavity 11, a gas pressure as in the bottle.
  • Figure 2 shows, in section, a capsule according to the invention arranged by forced fitting on the mouth 12 of a valve body 13 of a gas bottle, not shown, the internal part of the bottom 2 being in abutment on said mouth.
  • the orifice 14a of the mouth 12 is of the cylindrical type and contains a seal 15 the thickness of which is substantially greater than the thickness of the capsule at the level of the skirt 1.
  • This seal 15 has a cylindrical bore 16 in which partially penetrates at the time of the fitting of the capsule on the mouth 12, the first cylindrical part 8 of the projection 6, thus making a seal.
  • the seal 15 is slightly compressed in the orifice 14 of the mouth 12, by the sole 7 whose diameter is slightly less than that of the orifice 14 and the thickness substantially equal to half that of the bottom 2.
  • the edge of the cylindrical part 8 is located almost half the length of the cylindrical bore 16 of the seal 15.
  • FIG. 3 presents a capsule placed on a mouth 12, the orifice 14b of which contains a device 17 for regulating a ball.
  • This device 17 comprises a wall 18 which is perpendicular to the axis of the orifice 14b and which is provided with an axial bore 19 for the passage of gas on the one hand, and the stop of the regulating ball 20 , on the other hand.
  • the capsule is force fitted on the mouth 12 and the internal part of the bottom 2 is positioned in abutment on said mouth.
  • the extreme part of the protrusion 6, that is to say the spherical zone 10 and the cylindrical part 9 penetrate into the bore 19 of the wall 18.
  • the ball 20 is positioned, by gravity, in the device 17.
  • the cavity 10 of the projection is directly open on the regulating device 17 and upstream of the mouth 12.
  • the pressure which prevails in the cavity 11 causes a radial deformation and an expansion of the wall of said cavity 11 at the level of the cylindrical part 9 and of the spherical zone 11 in contact with the bore 19. This elastic expansion is found, less accentuated, FIG. 2, at the level of the cylindrical part 8 in contact with the cylindrical bore 16 of the seal 15.
  • Figure 4 shows the outer shape of a capsule fitted on the mouth 12 of a valve body 13.
  • the fitting of the capsule is carried out in a precise orientation to position the tearing ring 4 and the tab 5 laterally, against the body 13 of the valve.
  • the tab 5 extends the tongue 3 which is disposed between two thinning operations 21 performed on generators on the skirt 1.
  • the tab 5 is located in a parallel plane but slightly offset towards the outside with respect to the tongue 3, FIG. 1.
  • the offset is the seat of a buttress 22 tangentially connected to the upper part of the tongue 3 and to the tab 5.
  • This buttress 22 accentuates the rigidity of the tab 5 relative to the tongue 3 to facilitate the tearing of the thinning 21 on the part and on the other side of said tongue 3.
  • This stiffness of the tab 5 relative to the tongue 3 prevents any rotation of the capsule on the threaded mouth 12, except to cause tearing of the thinning 21.
  • the tear-off ring 4 extends the tongue 3 disposed between two thinning operations 21 carried out along generatrices of the skirt 1.
  • the ring 4 is located in a plane slightly inclined relative to the tongue, at an angle of the order of 30 °, fig. 1.
  • a buttress 22 is also arranged tangentially between the tongue 3 and the ring 4 to avoid tearing of said ring 4.
