Abstract

A flexible foil material for controllable leakproof separation of the areas located on both of its sides, for example a drainage separating wall. In the intermediate area between two closed foils a two-dimensionally connected distance-piece is envisaged which forms an open flow cross-section parallel to the length of the foil, so that harmful matter which enters at any point in the intermediate area is diverted to another point and thus can be recognized.

Description

The invention relates to a flexible film material for controllably tight separation of the areas located on its two sides, for example to form a septic barrier in the ground to protect the groundwater from pollutants present in certain areas.

It is known to design such a barrier wall with double walls and to provide a sand fill with test tubes in the intermediate space, by means of which the presence of any pollutants can be determined after they have passed through a leak in one wall part and before they also pass the other wall part into those to be protected Can penetrate the groundwater area (brochure "ENVIROWALL" from Schlegel Lining Technology Inc.). However, the treatment of such a known double film is difficult because two films have to be introduced into the slot trench provided in the ground and between them the bed of sand.

The invention has for its object to provide a film material of the type mentioned, which forms a double wall treatable as a unit.

The solution according to the invention consists in the fact that the film material in the space between two closed films has a surface-connected spacer with flow cross sections open in the direction parallel to the film extension. This spacer is preferably formed from a sheet material with projections rising transversely to its extension. Conversely, it can also have depressions recessed transversely to its extent. The side flanks of the projections or depressions must be so steep in relation to the main direction of extent of the surface material that the foils cannot lie against the surface of the surface material located between them, or that the flow cross-sections formed by the projections or depressions can be closed.

The design of the spacer as a grid with at least two sets of essentially rectified strands has proven to be particularly expedient, the crossing or connecting points of which have a greater thickness than the individual strands, so that the aforementioned projections are formed at the crossing or connecting points, while there are recesses between them. A typical example of such a spacer is a woven or knitted fabric or a one-piece grid with thickened connection points, as is preferably obtained by stretching a perforated plastic film in both surface directions, the webs lying between two holes being stretched and the one between three or four next adjacent holes, the central area as a connection point is less stretched and therefore remains thicker.

Finally, an open-pore surface material such as felt, an open-pore plastic film material or a porous granulate sintered product can also be used as a spacer.

The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing, which illustrates an advantageous embodiment. In it show:
  • 1 shows a section through the film material according to the invention
  • Figure 2 is a view of the spacer
  • 3 shows a view of the film material from which the spacer according to FIG. 2 was produced by stretching.

The film material consists of two cover films 1 and the spacer 2, which according to FIG. 2 is formed from a grid of thin webs 3 and connecting points or crossing points 4 connecting them, which are thicker than the webs 3. This spacer arises from the fact that a film of constant thickness, as shown in Figure 3 and which is provided with regular rows of holes 5, is stretched in the two directions indicated by arrows in the warm plastic state. As can easily be seen from a consideration of the size of the cross sections claimed by the yield stresses, the stresses in the area of the narrowest cross-section webs 3 'are greater than in the area 4', so that the stretch mainly refers to the webs while the surface areas 4 'located between four holes 5 are not deformed or are only deformed to a lesser extent and therefore remain thicker, as can be seen in FIG. 1.

It is possible to firmly connect the cover foils 1 to the spacer 2, for example by welding at the thickened nodes 4. In most cases, however, this is not necessary, because the flat superimposition of the three components already results in easy joint handling.

The cover films 1 consist, for example, of polyethylene with a thickness of preferably 1-5 mm. The maximum thickness of the spacer 2, which advantageously also consists of polyethylene, can be of the same order of magnitude.

The cover films 1 are expediently connected to one another on all sides by a circumferential edge seam, so that the space between them is tightly enclosed. This space can be tapped anywhere to check the medium in it. For example, if the pollutants to be monitored are evaporable, it may be sufficient to attach a vacuum connection to the upper edge of the film material sunk into the earth, via which samples of the atmosphere in the intermediate space can be taken and checked continuously or periodically. If samples have to be drawn off in the liquid state, a removal hose can be led from a removal point provided at the upper edge into the lower area of the material interspace, so that samples can be sucked up from the liquid collecting there.

Finally, it is also possible to fill the intermediate space with substances which absorb or destroy any penetrating pollutants and thereby render them harmless in such a way that they cannot migrate from the material in the direction of the soil zone to be protected.
