Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a system for displaying a segment by electromagnets, such as that which is in an automatic and remote-controlled digital display.
  • the segment When the segment is brought into one of said positions, its return movement to the other initial position is obtained by reversing the polarity of the pulses delivered by the control circuit so as to reverse the polarities of the permanent magnets.
  • the assembly is such that a magnetic remanence in the electromagnets is necessary to maintain the permanent magnets against the electromagnets, except to continually energize the control circuit which is undesirable for good reliability of the system, as much as for the display of a figure one uses seven segments and therefore as many systems.
  • US Pat. No. 3,560,966 discloses a display device in which two windings are arranged on fixed rods, so as to constitute a magnetic circuit in which the polarities are reversed so as to create an electromagnetic force capable of cause the mobile element to be displayed to move.
  • a major drawback of this device consists, as for the other devices of the prior art, in changing the polarity of the pulses with each movement of the mobile element.
  • the present invention aims to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks and to provide a system which is structurally very simple and very reliable, while being of low cost.
  • the subject of the present invention is a system for displaying a segment, comprising at least three magnets, a first of said magnets being constituted by a fixed electromagnet which is supplied with voltage from an electrical control so as to create a field magnetic in said electromagnet, a second of said magnets being constituted by a permanent magnet which is integral with the segment, so that under the action of said magnetic field a repulsive force is created between said permanent magnet and electromagnet, said force repulsion bringing the permanent magnet towards the adjacent end of said electromagnet and consequently the segment which is integral with it from a visible active position to a hidden active position, characterized in that the electric control excites said electromagnet with pulses of the same polarity, and in that the third magnet is constituted by a permanent magnet which is integral with said segment, one of said permanent magnets coming in contact with one end of the electromagnet for the visible active position of said segment and the other permanent magnet coming into contact with the other end of the electromagnet for the other hidden active position of said segment .
  • the system according to the invention comprises a fixing support 1 which is fixed on an overall base, not shown, and intended to receive the seven systems necessary for the display of a number. Indeed, as is known, each digit to be displayed is made up of seven segments which are controlled individually by a system, the details of which are given below, so that the combination or more exactly the display of a certain number of 'between them produces the desired figure.
  • the fixing support 1 is positioned on the base by four lugs 2 and fixed by a screw not shown.
  • In orifices 3 formed in extensions 4 of the support 1 is introduced a fixed axis 5 serving as an axis of rotation.
  • a printed circuit 6 is also mounted on the support 1.
  • the printed circuit 6 comprises two electromagnets 7 and 8 including the axes 9 and 10 of the cores 11, 12 are arranged perpendicularly to each other.
  • Each electromagnet 7 comprises a core 11, 12 constituted by a steel rod which is crimped on their body 13, 14 so as to avoid the creation of magnetic remanence when the windings of said electromagnets which are connected in series , cease to be traversed by an electric current.
  • Two switches 15 and 16 such as flexible blade switches are mounted in series with one another and in parallel on the two electromagnets 7, 8. The switches 15 and 16 are also connected to a control circuit 17 shown very diagrammatically on the FIG.
  • a transistor 18 which, when it is conductive, always delivers pulses of the same polarity and of short duration, of the order of 50 ms.
  • a resistor 19, of appropriate value, is mounted between the breaker 16 and the control circuit 17 and constitutes a voltage drop element.
  • a line 20 connects one end of the winding of the electromagnet 7 and one end of the breaker 15 to ground. Therefore, a positive voltage, for example 48 V, is created at the output of transistor 18, at each conduction.
  • a diode 22 On the common line 21 of two switches 15 and 16 is connected a diode 22, the output of which is connected to a measuring device 23.
  • a permanent magnet 24 is mounted between the two electromagnets 7 and 8, so that when said magnet 24 is pressed against one of said electromagnets 7, 8, its axis 25 is perpendicular to the axes 9, 10.
  • the permanent magnet is, in the example shown, secured to an arm 26 for supporting a segment 27.
  • the segment 27 is fixed to the arm 26 can be carried out by any suitable means such as notches, not shown.
  • the arm 26 and body of the permanent magnet 24 assembly is capable of rotating around the fixed axis of rotation 5, as will be described in connection with operation.
  • the control circuit 17 When the control circuit 17 is activated and delivers pulses, the passage of current through the coils of the electromagnets 7 and 8 creates a magnetic field.
  • the polarities of the electromagnets 7, 8 and of the magnet 24 having been chosen suitably, for example the N poles opposite for the electromagnet 7 and the permanent magnet 24, a phenomenon of repulsion occurs and l the permanent magnet 24 is driven to the left with a certain speed, the breaker 16 being open and the breaker 15 closed. As soon as the repulsion is initiated, the control circuit is inhibited.
  • the permanent magnet 24 continues its movement, thanks to its initial speed, and is pressed against the pole S of the electromagnet 8 which, being no longer traversed by any current, plays the role of a piece of iron against which the pole S of the permanent magnet 24 remains.
  • the segment 27 which is integral with it rotates by the same angle of rotation, 90 ° in the example, and passes from the active normal position where it is visible, and shown in solid lines, to another active normal position where it is hidden, represented in dotted lines.
  • the measuring device 23 measures the voltage at the output of the diode 22 which, due to the opening of the breaker 16, is equal to 48 V, to the nearest losses in the windings of the electromagnets 7 and 8.
  • the segment 24 were to occupy an indeterminate position between its normal positions, then the voltage measured at the output of the diode 22 would be different from the previous ones, and more probably zero. Under these conditions, it would be known that an incident occurred and that an intervention would be necessary. Obviously, the measuring device 23 can be associated with an optical and / or audible alarm to alert the operator that an incident has occurred.
  • These switches actually provide electrical continuity between the control circuit 17 and the diode 22.
  • the permanent magnet can be covered with a conductive material which would be directly connected to the control circuit. In the position pressed against one of the electromagnets, electrical continuity is ensured by the core of said electromagnet.
  • the resistor 19 it would be disposed between the diode 22 and one end of a winding of one of the electromagnets, so as to produce a voltage drop and allow the same measurements as above.
  • the system comprises a single electromagnet 7, the axis 9 of which is arranged orthogonally to the axis of rotation 5, and two permanent magnets 24, 24 ′ integral with the segment 27.
  • the permanent magnets 24, 24 ' are mounted on either side of the axis of rotation 5 so that during the excitation of the electromagnet 7, one of said permanent magnets 24' for example comes to be pressed against one end of said electromagnet 7 for an active position of segment 27.
  • the permanent magnet 24 ' is repelled, thereby bringing about the other permanent magnet 24 against the other end of said electromagnet 7.
  • the polarities of the permanent magnets 24 and 24 ′ as well as those of the electromagnet 7 must be chosen so as to obtain repulsions on each excitation of the electro magnet 7, as moreover this is explained in connection with the embodiment of FIG. 1.
  • the axis 9 of the electromagnet 7 is inclined by 45 ° on the horizontal so as to allow simple mounting of the permanent magnets 24, 24 'on the segment 27, the latter elements being shown in fig. 3 in solid lines for an active position and in dotted lines for the other active position.
