Verpackungsfolien werden vom Hersteller zu einem erheblichen Teil in Rollenform ausgeliefert, wobei hinsichtlich Breite und Durchmesser alle möglichen Formate auftreten können. Einheitlich ist lediglich der Innendurchmesser der Folienrollen, weil dieses Mass von den Verpackungsautomaten vorgegeben ist. Ein grosser Teil der Folienrollen hat einen Innendurchmesser von 70 mm, wobei der Aussendurchmesser im Bereich von 100 bis 450 mm liegen kann, während die Breiten der einzelnen Rollen zwischen 20 und 500 mm liegen. Um derartige Folienrollen raumsparend verpacken zu können, ist man bisher so vorgegangen, dass man in einen Umkarton neben einer Unterlage und einer Auflage eine untere und obere Arretierung in Form von Lochbrettern vorgesehen hat, die entweder mit einer Standardlochung versehen und dann nur für bestimmte Rollendurchmesser geeignet waren oder aber in Anpassung an die anfallenden Rollendurchmesser für jeden Karton individuell gelocht wurden. In diese Lochbretter wurden Hülsen mit einem Aussendurchmesser wenig kleiner als der Innendurchmesser der Folienrollen eingesetzt und letztere dann in den Karton gestapelt.
