Description

The present invention relates to a method and an installation for conveying and continuously processing or working a flexible, preferably virgin, flexible support, such as a paper strip stored in a roll or fold or the like, intended to pass through a computer printer. with the use of autonomous units capable of producing different prints in black or any other color to produce a plurality of sheets or documents, by printing on said strip prints controlled by the computer printer in collaboration with reading means and detection.

Until now, data centers have always used documents pre-printed on a flexible deformable support such as a strip, for example of paper, and the printer of the computer supplements the pre-printed document with the data contained in the computer memory.

The documents thus obtained can then be shaped for example by an autonomous shaping unit capable of making cuts and / or perforations. These documents can then be delivered or sent to the addressee or remain in the form of a stack, that is to say in a stack package, to be used in this presentation in different departments or offices.

In the case where the data coming from the computer and printed by means of the printer are all different and variable, depending on the desired programming, it is currently impossible to vary at will and irregularly programmable basic prints and generally in color according to the passage in the printer of the computer, and therefore after this one.

For example, if we are in the presence of a bundle or a reel of pre-printed paper, for example with "invoice" documents, all the documents in this stack or reel of documents will be the same, it will not be it is possible to find other documents in very different and irregular places, which would be for example: a dispatch note, a cover letter, an advertising letter, a contract, and this in different colors while furthermore, shapes, such as cutouts, perforations, could be different in these documents and in a random or irregular manner. On the other hand, attempts have been made to eliminate the need to start from reels or bundles of pre-printed paper by carrying out this printing by incorporating a stand-alone printing unit before the printer of the computer.

However, although this solution makes it possible to start from blank paper which can be used subsequently for different prints, this solution still has the disadvantage of only allowing the production of the same type of document, for example invoices and it it will not be possible to find other documents there in very different and irregular places, as indicated previously, such as a dispatch note, a cover letter, an advertising letter, a contract, and this in different colors or even different shapes, randomly or irregularly.

Thus, it is necessary to proceed to printing by successive passes, for example first of all a series of invoices, then then of a series of cover letters then then of advertising letters, etc. This way of proceeding has the major drawback of still requiring a mixture of the various printed documents thereafter in order to combine them in the same envelope for transmission to their recipient.

The present invention therefore aims to solve or eliminate all the drawbacks of the prior art by providing a new method and a new installation making it possible to route and process or work continuously a flexible and deformable support, preferably blank, such as '' a paper strip stored in a roll or fold or the like, intended to pass through a computer printer with the use of autonomous units capable of producing different prints in black or any other color to produce a plurality of sheets or documents , by printing on said strip prints controlled by the computer printer in collaboration with reading and detection means, characterized in that said strip passes in a succession of autonomous units each provided with a microprocessor and own means for printing texts on the front and / or back and means for marking, reading and shaping.

The patent FR-A-2439677 describes a non-continuous process, because it is necessary to stop the assembly several times, i.e. to change the self-contained printing units (clichés), for cleaning and inking the cylinder, etc.

The process according to the present invention is on the contrary perfectly continuous, without any stopping and without any loss of time.

Patent JP-A-56-127,286 is based on reading the position of the printer's edit lines.

Once the count has been made, the punching order is granted. It is a simple round trip check and everything is simply based on the position of the prints.

There is no analysis, no comparison, no interpretation, no calculation, no information management, no movement control, neither in position nor in timing, as is the case of the method and installation according to the present invention.

The characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear in the light of the explanatory description given with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
  • FIG. 1 diagrammatically represents an installation according to the invention comprising for example two autonomous printing units capable of producing two different prints,
  • FIG 2 shows a top view partial representing the markings which can preferably be carried out by the printer of the computer,
  • FIGS. 3 to 5 represent various personalized documents obtained by the installation and the method according to the invention.

With reference to FIG. 1, an installation according to the invention for conveying and continuously processing or working a deformable valve support which can be blank or pre-printed for which additional or partial printing or shaping must be carried out, such as a strip, for example of paper stored in rolls or folds, or the like, is characterized in that it comprises one or more autonomous printing units capable of producing different prints.

According to the example shown in FIG. 1, there is a printing unit which comprises two printing groups G 1 and G 2 allowing two different prints to be produced. Naturally, the installation according to the invention can comprise a number x of printing units or a number x of autonomous printing units, making it possible to produce x different prints; the number of printing units is therefore arbitrary and preferably allows printing of n different texts and / or m different colors and / or p different designs. Likewise, the installation according to the invention may likewise comprise one or more autonomous shaping units capable of carrying out different shapings, such as perforations, cuts, etc.

With reference to FIG. 1, it can be seen that each unit or preferably group G of unit 2 comprises a working cylinder M and a counter cylinder D mounted on articulated arms 6 pivoting around the point F and provided with jacks 4 whose the piston 5 is connected to the arm 6 so that, by actuation of the jack 4, between an operating position shown for group G 2 , pressing against the working cylinder M and a non-operating position shown for group G 1 where the against cylinder D is not in abutment against the working cylinder M, understands that the paper strip 8, preferably coming from the printer of the computer (not shown) which is permanently in abutment against the against-cylinder D, can be selectively brought into abutment against the working cylinder M for example of group G 2 of the autonomous unit 2 by simple actuation of the jacks 4 of each group G of each unit by selective control means constituted by a microprocessor P preferably comprising a central memory.

The selective control means can also advantageously comprise detection means H 1 , H 2 , of marking on the flexible support such as the markings 10, 12, represented in FIG. 2, which are preferably produced by the printer of the 'computer. The markings 10 are for example intended to control the desired impression and these markings 10 are therefore respectively read, transmitted to the microprocessor P which, after analysis, gives the order to the jack 4 articulating the counterpart cylinders D to carry out a rotation in perfect synchronization with the working cylinder M and specifies the exact position where the two cylinders must be at the time of contact. It is the same in the case of the marking 12 which contains the instructions necessary for carrying out the appropriate shaping.

The presence of markings on the flexible support 8 can be replaced by an appropriate program which can be displayed either manually, or by transfer on magnetic tape containing the instructions necessary for the microprocessor, which makes it operate in an irregular, cyclic or random manner.

This procedure can be carried out in an integrated chain with a computer printer. However, it is preferred to insert the installation according to the invention into the integrated chain of the computer printer directly after passing through the computer printer.

Finally, there may be provided a detection means H 3 verifying the good synchronization of the work, that is to say the printing of a text, a coloring, a drawing; and / or shaping such as perforations, cutouts, etc. according to a third element which is the flexible support preferably consisting of a strip of paper. It is therefore understood that this installation makes it possible to carry out the method according to the invention previously mentioned. The invention therefore makes it possible to be able to have available sheets of white paper or possibly incomplete printing or shaping, to be able to personalize each document, according to its destination after it has passed through the printer, which was absolutely impossible until present by the system used in all continuous paper printing plants.

It is therefore possible according to the invention, without any risk of error, by applying the method and the installation according to the invention, to proceed to the assembly or the composition of a set of different documents by their presentation, colors, logos, drawings, texts, perforations, and this from a single strip of paper and succeeding in the order defined by the computer at the time of passage through its printer.

Indeed, the computer controls in practice all of the operations since either it carries out a marking of the flexible support materializing on the support the information necessary for the work then carried out by the selective control means according to the present invention of the various autonomous units, or uses a program previously produced and which can be transferred to magnetic tapes read by the microprocessor P, said program being adapted from prior knowledge of the program stored in the computer and which determines the order and content of the messages will be printed by the computer printer, to distinguish and personalize each of the documents. Thus, the invention is directly applicable in the field of office automation to distinguish and completely personalize each document.

No mixing is necessary any more because following the work carried out according to the invention by using the same functions, marks, the same electronics at least in its principles, one can couple after the ones of the documents completely different but intended for the same person.

On the other hand, before, several documents had to be taken in different stacks, after going through a computer printer, to gather them and put them in the same envelope, either manually or automatically.

Figures 3 to 5 give examples of embodiments obtained by the installation and the method according to the invention.

Another example of embodiment is as follows: upon receipt of a strip of paper containing for example eleven A4 documents, by cutting them one after the other, we will obtain all of a very specific correspondence and perfectly personalized.

The first document will, for example, be a red cover letter. The second will be an invitation in blue color but with perforation of a part of the document which becomes detachable and in red, and having to be returned to the sender duly completed.
