Description

The present invention relates to a valve control device, in particular in an overhead camshaft engine, of the type comprising a rotary cam and transmission means cooperating with this cam to communicate to a valve, an alternating movement of lifted, against the force exerted by a return spring ensuring the fallout of the valve. The dispensing valves are commonly controlled either directly by a cam via a pusher, or by a rocker, itself controlled by a cam or by a rod.

These different solutions require in particular lubrication by feeding under oil pressure; this oil must have a viscosity compatible with the functioning of the other organs of the internal combustion engine and in particular of the bearings for which this viscosity must preferably remain low.

  • - des frottements élevés dus à une épaisseur extrêmement faible du film d'huile situé entre la came et le culbuteur ou le poussoir et à l'instabilité de ce film ; le couple d'entraînement de l'arbre à cames peut alors devenir très pénalisant pour les petites cylindrées ;
However, a low viscosity interferes in particular with the operation of the cam by:
  • - high friction due to an extremely small thickness of the oil film located between the cam and the rocker arm or the plunger and to the instability of this film; the driving torque of the camshaft can then become very detrimental for small displacements;
  • - significant wear, accelerated by the presence of combustion waste acting as abrasive grains.

An essential aim of the present invention consists in overcoming the aforementioned drawbacks by a particular arrangement of the valve control members for an internal combustion engine.

L'objet de l'invention est un dispositif de commande de soupape du type précité dans lequel, suivant une particularité de l'invention, la surface de glissement des moyens de transmission entrant en contact avec la came reste immergée dans un bain d'huile de lubrification indépendant présentant une viscosité élevéeThe object of the invention is a valve control device of the aforementioned type in which, according to a feature of the invention, the sliding surface of the transmission means coming into contact with the cam remains immersed in an oil bath independent lubrication with high viscosity

A double condition of cleanliness and reduction of friction can thus be ensured because the high viscosities favor the formation of an oil film between the cam and the transmission means such as a rocker arm and a pusher.

In fact, tests have shown that the driving torque of the valve control device is reduced by half with a very viscous lubrication, situated in particular in a range from 200 to 1000 centipoise.

The valve control device according to the invention also makes it possible not to lose a gain in friction by the use of an auxiliary oil pump of high performance. According to another particular feature of the invention, the aforementioned transmission means consist of a rocker arm pivoting in its middle on a rocker shaft and provided around its pivot axis with grooves which open into the independent oil bath.

The rocker shaft can thus be permanently lubricated by bubbling.

According to another feature of the invention, the aforementioned transmission means consist of a pusher immersed in a bath of upper viscous oil. It is a variant for a direct valve attack which allows the above advantages to be preserved.

The invention will be better understood and other objects, details and advantages thereof will appear during the explanatory description which follows, with reference to the appended schematic drawings, given solely by way of examples illustrating two embodiments of the invention and in which:
  • FIG. 1 represents a partial cross-sectional view of a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine, with a cam valve control according to the invention by cam and rocker arm,
  • FIG. 2 is a view in partial longitudinal section of a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine, with a cam valve control according to the invention by cam and plunger,
  • - And Figure 3 is a partial sectional view of Figure 2 along 3 - 3.

A cylinder head cover 13 provided with cooling fins 14 covers this cylinder head 1 which contains a viscous oil bath 15 for lubrication thermally insulated from this cylinder head by a coating 17.

The rocker arms 10 each have a lower part 10 provided with a shoe 10 2 and embedded in the oil bath 15; each of these rockers pivots in its middle on a shaft 11 and has around its pivot axis, a circular groove 10 which opens towards the bottom of the bath 15 in a lower channel 10 40 A variant shown in Figures 2 and 3 relates to an overhead valve control by overhead camshaft with direct valve attacks.

Sur ces figures sont représentés :

  • - une culasse 20 pourvue d'un bain d'huile visqueuse supérieur 21 dans lequel sont immergés des poussoirs 22 attaqués par des cames 23 ;
  • - un arbre à cames 24 muni d'un alésage interne 25 qui communique par des trous 26 judicieusement pratiqués dans les cames 23 avec le bain d'huile supérieur 21 d'une part, et par un trou traversant 27, une gorge intérieure 28 d'un palier 29 et un canal d'alimentation 30 débouchant dans la gorge 28, avec un bain d'huile visqueuse inférieur 31 ;
  • - une pompe à huile sous basse pression 32 entraîné par l'arbre à cames 24 par l'intermédiaire d'un ensemble de pignons 33 ;
In these figures are represented:
  • - A cylinder head 20 provided with a viscous upper oil bath 21 in which are immersed pushers 22 attacked by cams 23;
  • - A camshaft 24 provided with an internal bore 25 which communicates through holes 26 judiciously made in the cams 23 with the upper oil bath 21 on the one hand, and through a through hole 27, an internal groove 28 d 'a bearing 29 and a supply channel 30 opening into the groove 28, with a lower viscous oil bath 31;
  • - a low pressure oil pump 32 driven by the camshaft 24 via a set of pinions 33;
  • - And in a conventional manner, valves 34, valve return springs 35, valve guides 36, valve actuating cups 37, pusher pads 38 ensuring contact with the cams 23 and gaskets. oil tightness 39 mounted on the guides 36.

The previously described valve control device operates as follows:
  • As shown in Figure 1, the lower part 10 1 of the rocker arm 10 is completely embedded in the oil of the bath 15; therefore, the lubrication of the sliding surface of this rocker arm coming into contact with the shoe 10 2 with the partially submerged control cam 12 is ensured permanently.

The cam nose 12 1 projects oil by centrifugation into the groove 10 3 of the rocker arm 10 via the lower channel 10 4 and thus makes it possible to continuously lubricate the shaft 11 of the rocker arm Simultaneously, the projections of oil 1 6 external to the oil bath 1 5 are sufficient to lubricate the contact surface between the valve 2 and the screw 9 for adjusting the clearance. The coating 1 7 constituted either by an insulating material, for example plastic, or by a blade of air taken in particular between two walls, makes it possible to maintain a sufficient viscosity of the oil of the bath 1 5 when hot. This thermal insulation limits the heat flow which comes from the cylinder head 1 and heats the oil of the bath 1 5. In addition, the cooling fins 1 4 of the cylinder head cover 13 contribute to evacuating the heat flow produced by the friction of the distribution.

The temperature rise of the lubricating oil is thus effectively limited.

In the variant shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, a highly viscous oil circulation with the upper bath 21 independent and supplied by the lower oil bath 3 1 serving as a reservoir, by means of the low pressure pump 32 allows permanent lubrication of the sliding surfaces of the pushers 22 coming into contact with the cams 23 by the pads 38.

Under the action of the low pressure pump 32, the viscous oil of the bath 3 1 rises successively through the channel 30, the groove 28 and the hole 27 in the oil ramp formed by the internal bore 25 of the camshaft 24. This oil then feeds through holes 26 judiciously drilled in the cams 2 3, the upper oil bath 21 before the pushers 22 attack by the sides of these cams. The viscous oil may then fall back into the lower bath 31 serving as a reservoir for closing the lubrication circuit of the distribution.

As for valve control by rocker arms and cams, the seals 39 mounted on the valve guides 36 limit at best the consumption of oil and a thermally insulating material can separate the oil baths 21 and 31 from the cylinder head 20.

In order to make compatible the use of oils with high viscosities with the correct functioning of the camshaft bearings and thus reduce friction in an optimal way, a simple solution consists in using usual bearings with partial arcs.
