Definitions
- the invention relates to a temperature monitor with a contact arrangement comprising a movable contact and a mating contact, with a bimetal sensor lifting the contact off the mating contact and with a resistor.
- the circuit to the consumer for example a radiator
- the circuit to the consumer is first interrupted in the event of a fault.
- the contact is restored and the circuit with the radiator is closed again. If the sources of error or the causes that led to the opening of the temperature monitor have not been eliminated, the system is switched off again.
- These shutdowns can occur more frequently and at shorter intervals, so that there can be loads on the bimetallic strip and the contact surfaces, which are caused by the electrical current heat, which can no longer be absorbed and released in a suitable manner by the contact arrangement. Frequent switching at excessive temperatures can weld the contacts together.
- controller clocking Such an undesirable switching behavior of a temperature monitor with repeated switching off and on again is referred to as "controller clocking".
- the temperature and the temperature monitor can no longer be monitored, since the current is permanently on the radiator and the temperature monitor can no longer switch it off. It the consumer or other connected devices are completely destroyed. There is a risk that fires may result from the inoperability of the controller.
- Temperature monitors are also known, in which so-called thick-film resistors of the contact arrangement are connected in parallel to prevent the controller clocking.
- These thick-film resistors are purely ohmic resistors, a resistor paste being applied to a heat-resistant material using the screen printing process and baked at an elevated temperature. The heat extraction of these resistors and the attachment to metal parts is very complex and often not feasible.
- DE-OS 29 27 475 shows a regulator encapsulated in a glass bulb with a thermally responsive resistance element with positive heat coefficients.
- the resistance element has bores for the passage of the electrode connections and is firmly fixed by them and in no way exchangeable. Due to the glass bulb encapsulation, use for the purpose explained above is not possible, in particular not with a fan heater, since the glass bulb would reduce the heat transfer too much.
- DE-OS 26 06 201 shows an actuator with bimetal and an element with positive temperature coefficients, whereby mechanical holding functions, namely I locks are to be triggered. Here, too, the heat-sensitive resistance element cannot be replaced.
- DE-OS 29 07 763 shows a timer for delaying switching on and off of electrical devices and is comparable to the function of a flip switch, with a ceramic resistance element being provided which performs the function of the electromagnetic coil. Otherwise, this embodiment has the same disadvantages as the DE-OS 29 27 475 due to the encapsulation, so that this object in principle can not be used in the manner described above.
- the DD-PS 119 497 shows a bimetal switch with thermal monitoring for electrical devices, in which a homogeneous resistance element rests on one side on the movable part of the bimetal spring and an electrical contact via a U-shaped bracket to the fixed part of the bimetal switch manufactured and at the same time the holder of the resistance element is made.
- a temperature-resistant, limited electrically conductive elastomer, preferably a silicone rubber, is provided as the resistance element.
- the type of pressing is unsatisfactory here, since the U-shaped bracket will lose its elasticity when heated. Furthermore, a support is carried out on the movable part of the controller, so that the accuracy of the control is impaired.
- the innovation is based on the task of further developing a guardian of the type mentioned in such a way that, avoiding the disadvantages mentioned, a restart is ruled out for the case as long as the source of the cause of the error has not been eliminated, the heat energy being decoupled in an optimal and shortest way simple means are to be achieved and an increase in the ambient temperature is avoided in the event of a fault.
- this object is achieved in that the resistor is attached to the contact arrangement as a PTC resistor.
- the inventive arrangement of a PTC module ensures a reliable, safe and rapid release of the heat generated in it when the current flows to the contact arrangement.
- the temperature-resistance relationships in such a PTC module initially ensure that, in addition to the opening of the contact arrangement, the conductivity of the PTC module is so low due to the excessive ambient heat that practically no current flows anymore.
- the current flow through the PTC element and the associated temperature output stabilize to a value by which the contact arrangement can be reliably kept open until an external power interruption occurs, for example by switching off the device or pulling out the mains plug. Only then, what causes a check and, if necessary, repair before switching on again when the consumer switches off the consumer undesirably, does the contact arrangement of the temperature monitor respond again.
- the free or open temperature monitor 1 according to the invention shown in FIG. 1 without a housing has connecting or fastening tongues 2 which are fixed to an insulating part 3 of the temperature monitor 1.
- a contact arrangement which consists of a bimetal strip 5 which is electrically connected to a connecting tongue 2 and is held by it, at the end of which a button-like one Contact 5 'is attached.
- the contact 5 ' is assigned a mating contact 4 which is fastened to the other contact tongue 2'.
- a spring strip 7 is fastened to the contact tongue 2 by being punctured with a fold 8 on the contact tab 2.
- the spring strip 7 protrudes from there to below the contact tab 2 ', the spring action being carried out on the contact tab 2'.
- a PTC resistance table 6 is arranged, which is only pressed under the spring action of the spring strip 7 against the contact tab 2 and thus held. It is essential that no further fastening means are provided, and the PTC resistor can therefore be replaced easily and without problems.
- the temperature monitor 1 is connected in series with a consumer 9, such as a heater or the like, in the manner shown in FIG. 3. From the circuit diagram of FIG. 3, it is clear that the PTC resistor 6 is connected in parallel to the contact arrangement, that is, bridges it. If current is now applied, it flows from a connecting tongue, for example 2, via the bimetallic part 5, the contact 5 ′ attached to it, to the mating contact 4 and from there to the connecting tongue 2 ′ and from there to the consumer 9, which is then heated, for example.
- the bimetallic strip 5 of the temperature monitor 1 opens, which - as usual - is arranged in the vicinity of the consumer 9, the contact arrangement 4, 5 ', thus lifts the contact Contact 5 'from counter contact 4.
- the current flow through the contact arrangement is therefore interrupted.
- the PTC resistor also has such a low conductivity that practically no current flows through it to the consumer 9. The consumer 9 is no longer burdened and the temperature in the consumer 9 drops.
- the temperature - Delivery to the environment, in particular in the illustrated embodiment to the counter-contact 4 and radiating from this to the bimetallic strip 5 is such that the contact arrangement 4, 5 'remains open.
- the consumer can therefore not be overloaded.
- a noteworthy delivery of electrical power as heat from the consumer 9 or radiator is therefore not possible. Only after switching off the consumer 9 by hand also no more current flows through the PTC resistor 6, so that it cools down, and the bimetallic strip 5 closes the contact arrangement 4, 5 'and the consumer after a certain time, in particular after a check the source of the error can be used again.
- the current flow through the PTC resistor 6 when the contact arrangement is open can be selected in a suitable manner.
- the PTC resistor 6 is only clamped between the connecting lug 2 'and the spring 7, it can, if necessary, be necessary, for example if the device in which the temperature monitor 1 is used , Vibrations, be attached even more securely.
- a shrink tube 10 is pulled together via the connecting lug 2 1 , the PTC resistor 6 and the end of the spring 7 receiving this and shrunk over the part mentioned.
- the PTC module 6 is thereby held securely and even more firmly on the contact tongue 2 ', so that the heat extraction from the module is improved.
- the PTC resistor 6 is glued to the contact tongue 2 ′ by means of adhesive 11, for example silicone rubber. This also ensures secure attachment.
- FIGS. 7 and 8 Another fastening is that of the embodiment according to FIGS. 7 and 8.
- a plastic sleeve 12 is drawn over the PTC module 6, which fixes it and presses it against a contact tongue 2 '.
- FIGS. 9 to 11 Yet another preferred embodiment of the temperature monitor according to the invention is shown in FIGS. 9 to 11.
- the spring strip 7, which presses the PTC element 6 against the contact tongue 2 ' has an arcuate convex shape 12 below the PTC element, which only rests on the PTC element 6 and with the spring strip 7 presses the PTC element against the contact tongue 2.
- the PTC element 6 can therefore tilt and adjust around the rocker-shaped configuration 12 in such a way that it lies flat and flat against the contact tongue 2 'over the entire surface and horizontally. On the one hand, this results in optimal heat extraction and, on the other hand, optimum electrical contacting, so that the function of the temperature monitor according to the invention is optimally guaranteed by this development. Nevertheless, the PTC element can be exchanged easily and conveniently.
- the spring 17 is also molded into a pot-shaped plastic part, the mass of the plastic part 13 following the indentation 12 on its concave side, while the convex side of the indentation 12 is free in the pot inside the part 13 lies.
- the PTC element is simply inserted thereon, that is to say it is held laterally by the cup-shaped design of the plastic part 13 and is pressed by the spring part 7 via the stamping 12 against the contact tab 2 '.
- the spring part 7 is fixed with its connecting part 8 at 14 other connecting tongue 2.
- the plastic used for part 13 is Ryton.

Abstract
Temperature monitors (1) limit the temperature of electrical devices by automatically opening the circuit and should only reset after a significant temperature change. When the consumer (9) overheats, the contact (5 ') attached to the bimetallic strip (5) lifts from the counter contact (4) into an open position, thereby interrupting the current flow through the contact arrangement. If the sources of error are not remedied, there is a risk of welding contacts of the temperature monitor due to frequent switching, called "controller clocking". To avoid switching on again, it is therefore provided that the contact arrangement is bridged by the PTC resistor (6) during the open position. The open position is maintained until the consumer (9) is turned off by hand.
Description
The invention relates to a temperature monitor with a contact arrangement comprising a movable contact and a mating contact, with a bimetal sensor lifting the contact off the mating contact and with a resistor.
In the case of known temperature monitors, the circuit to the consumer, for example a radiator, is first interrupted in the event of a fault. After the bimetal sensor has cooled, the contact is restored and the circuit with the radiator is closed again. If the sources of error or the causes that led to the opening of the temperature monitor have not been eliminated, the system is switched off again. These shutdowns can occur more frequently and at shorter intervals, so that there can be loads on the bimetallic strip and the contact surfaces, which are caused by the electrical current heat, which can no longer be absorbed and released in a suitable manner by the contact arrangement. Frequent switching at excessive temperatures can weld the contacts together. Such an undesirable switching behavior of a temperature monitor with repeated switching off and on again is referred to as "controller clocking". When the contact surfaces burn or weld, the temperature and the temperature monitor can no longer be monitored, since the current is permanently on the radiator and the temperature monitor can no longer switch it off. It the consumer or other connected devices are completely destroyed. There is a risk that fires may result from the inoperability of the controller.
Temperature monitors are also known, in which so-called thick-film resistors of the contact arrangement are connected in parallel to prevent the controller clocking. These thick-film resistors are purely ohmic resistors, a resistor paste being applied to a heat-resistant material using the screen printing process and baked at an elevated temperature. The heat extraction of these resistors and the attachment to metal parts is very complex and often not feasible. Further disadvantages are that, due to the unsatisfactory heat coupling to the contact arrangement, increased temperatures at the resistor are necessary, which, on account of excessive specific temperature load, lead to the fact that the resistors themselves are thermally overloaded, with the risk of self-destruction, and secondly the often existing ones Plastic parts of the watchdog become brittle, causing them to crack and possibly break. In particular, the first danger is also present in an embodiment in which a is 1 ohm be heated shear resistance across connecting wires between the two sides of the contact assembly is connected.
Basically, without reference to the above problem, the use of PTC resistance elements is well known per se. DE-OS 29 27 475 shows a regulator encapsulated in a glass bulb with a thermally responsive resistance element with positive heat coefficients. The resistance element has bores for the passage of the electrode connections and is firmly fixed by them and in no way exchangeable. Due to the glass bulb encapsulation, use for the purpose explained above is not possible, in particular not with a fan heater, since the glass bulb would reduce the heat transfer too much. DE-OS 26 06 201 shows an actuator with bimetal and an element with positive temperature coefficients, whereby mechanical holding functions, namely I locks are to be triggered. Here, too, the heat-sensitive resistance element cannot be replaced. In addition, the heat flow and the heat decoupling of the PTC element is disadvantageously designed with the lever movements given there. DE-OS 29 07 763 shows a timer for delaying switching on and off of electrical devices and is comparable to the function of a flip switch, with a ceramic resistance element being provided which performs the function of the electromagnetic coil. Otherwise, this embodiment has the same disadvantages as the DE-OS 29 27 475 due to the encapsulation, so that this object in principle can not be used in the manner described above. The DD-PS 119 497 shows a bimetal switch with thermal monitoring for electrical devices, in which a homogeneous resistance element rests on one side on the movable part of the bimetal spring and an electrical contact via a U-shaped bracket to the fixed part of the bimetal switch manufactured and at the same time the holder of the resistance element is made. A temperature-resistant, limited electrically conductive elastomer, preferably a silicone rubber, is provided as the resistance element. The type of pressing is unsatisfactory here, since the U-shaped bracket will lose its elasticity when heated. Furthermore, a support is carried out on the movable part of the controller, so that the accuracy of the control is impaired.
In contrast, the innovation is based on the task of further developing a guardian of the type mentioned in such a way that, avoiding the disadvantages mentioned, a restart is ruled out for the case as long as the source of the cause of the error has not been eliminated, the heat energy being decoupled in an optimal and shortest way simple means are to be achieved and an increase in the ambient temperature is avoided in the event of a fault.
According to the invention, this object is achieved in that the resistor is attached to the contact arrangement as a PTC resistor. The inventive arrangement of a PTC module ensures a reliable, safe and rapid release of the heat generated in it when the current flows to the contact arrangement. The temperature-resistance relationships in such a PTC module initially ensure that, in addition to the opening of the contact arrangement, the conductivity of the PTC module is so low due to the excessive ambient heat that practically no current flows anymore. When the environment cools down, the current flow through the PTC element and the associated temperature output stabilize to a value by which the contact arrangement can be reliably kept open until an external power interruption occurs, for example by switching off the device or pulling out the mains plug. Only then, what causes a check and, if necessary, repair before switching on again when the consumer switches off the consumer undesirably, does the contact arrangement of the temperature monitor respond again.

The free or
The temperature monitor 1 according to the invention is connected in series with a consumer 9, such as a heater or the like, in the manner shown in FIG. 3. From the circuit diagram of FIG. 3, it is clear that the
In the embodiment according to FIG. 6, the
Another fastening is that of the embodiment according to FIGS. 7 and 8. Here, a
Yet another preferred embodiment of the temperature monitor according to the invention is shown in FIGS. 9 to 11. Insofar as the same elements are present, they are identified with the same reference numerals as in the previous configurations. As far as the design corresponds to the previous ones, reference is made to the previous description and no further details are given. Compared to the previous embodiments, in the embodiment of FIGS. 9 to 11, the
