Abstract

A vertically adjustable carrier for a vise comprises a vertical support tube and a mounting which can be secured to a work bench and which comprises two semicylindrical shells which embrace the support tube and which can be clamped together to fix the support tube in any desired vertical position. The shells extend downwardly from the mounting and define a cavity which accommodates a gas spring which abuts on one end on the support tube and on the other end on the bottom of the composed half shells and exerts an upwardly directed force on the support tube to ease its vertical movement.

Description

The invention relates to a height-adjustable support for vices, mounting plates and the like according to the preamble of patent claim 1.

In the carriers of this type known from DE-U-81 13 061, for example, the support tube is arranged in a longitudinally slotted guide tube which is gripped by the brackets of the holding device and is reduced in diameter when the brackets are clamped together, so that it supports the support tube in each Can clamp position. The closed bottom of the guide tube forms the support point for the lower end of the spring element. With this carrier, the inside diameter of the bracket to the outside diameter of the guide tube and the outside diameter of the support tube to the inside diameter of the guide tube must be made (or selected to allow, on the one hand, a smooth height adjustment after loosening the clamping device formed by the bracket, but with relatively small tolerances On the other hand, the production of a large clamping force without excessive expenditure of force The production is comparatively complex due to the need to maintain comparatively narrow tolerances on three interacting components.

The invention has for its object to provide a carrier of the type mentioned, which is characterized by a simpler and therefore cheaper structure and in which a relatively wide tolerance band can be allowed in the manufacture.

This object is achieved by the features of the characterizing part of patent claim 1.

The carrier according to the invention can be produced by dispensing with the guide tube and taking over its tasks in that the brackets and the tube are integrated into a pair of components of two half-shells enclosing the cavity, with much less effort than the known carrier, since with the omission of the guide tube only the tolerance pairing between the outer diameter of the support tube and the inner diameter of the bracket must be observed. If the brackets are made in die-cast light metal, no machining of the inner surfaces is normally required.

The two brackets can delimit a cavity closed at the bottom. Each bracket can have an axially extending extension at its lower end, the lower ends of the assembled bracket being held together by a component encompassing the extensions. This component can be a spring ring, a corresponding circumferential groove is provided for receiving it in the extensions.

The inner surfaces of the brackets can be provided with projections, preferably in the form of peripheral ribs. These projections can serve to support the lower end of the spring element or also as a stop for the downward movement of the support tube, for example to prevent a user's hand from being caught between a device mounted on the carrier and the holding device. Several projections or circumferential ribs can be provided at an axial distance from one another, which makes it possible to use spring elements of different lengths if necessary or to provide the stop for the support tube at different heights. The stop itself is formed by a disk inserted into the tube formed by the half-shells and resting on the relevant projections or circumferential ribs, which disk can simultaneously represent the support for the gas spring. The disc may also have a central opening through which the spring element extends when the lower end of the spring element is to be supported on the bottom of the half-shells.

Alternatively, a tube section of suitable length can be used instead of the projections in the cavity enclosed by the half-shells, which is supported on the bottom of the cavity and whose upper end serves as a stop for the support tube or as a support for the lower end of the spring element.

Als Federelement wird vorzugsweise eine Gasfeder vorgesehen.A gas spring is preferably provided as the spring element.

  • Fig. 2 und 3 Schnitte entlang Linien 11-11 bzw. 111-111 in Fig. 1,
  • Fig. 4 einen Schnitt entlang Linie IV-IV in Fig. 2, und
An embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to the drawing. It shows:
  • 1 is a side view of a height-adjustable carrier, partially in section,
  • 2 and 3 sections along lines 11-11 and 111-111 in Fig. 1,
  • Fig. 4 is a section along line IV-IV in Fig. 2, and
  • 5 shows a section similar to FIG. 3 of a carrier with a modified support for the spring element.

The carrier has a vertical support tube 1, which carries at its upper end a plate 2 on which a vice, a mounting plate or the like can be attached. A holding device 3 that can be attached to a work table has two brackets 4 and 5, which encompass the support tube 1 and of which the bracket 4 is stationary and has an extension 6 with which the holding device 3 can be fastened to the work table while the bracket 5 is movable relative to the bracket 4. The two brackets 4 and 5 are connected on one side by two support screws 7 and on the other side by a clamping screw 8 with a handle 9. By tightening the clamping screw 8, the two brackets 4 and 5 are clamped together and clamp the support tube 1 fixed in any position.

The two brackets 4 and 5 extend downward from the holding device 3 and delimit a cavity 10 in which a gas spring 11 is arranged. The gas spring 11 consists of a cylinder 12, a piston 13 and a piston rod 14 extending therefrom and has a cylinder chamber 15 which contains a gas under high pressure. The upper end of the gas spring 11, in the exemplary embodiment shown the end of the piston rod 14, is supported on the underside of the plate 2 connected to the support tube 1, while its lower end, that is to say the lower end of the cylinder 12, rests on a disk 16, which is positively inserted into the tube formed by the bracket 4 and 5. For this purpose, circumferential ribs 17, 18 are provided on the inner walls of the brackets 4, 5, on which the disc 16 rests. In the exemplary embodiment, three circumferential ribs are provided at an axial distance from one another in order to be able to accommodate gas springs of different lengths. The gas spring 11 can also be supported at the lower end or bottom 19 of the brackets 4, 5. The disc 16 also serves as a stop to limit the downward movement of the support tube 1 in order to prevent a hand of the user from getting caught between the plate 2 and the extension 6 or the work table. The disc 16 can be provided with a central opening through which the gas spring 16 can extend if the disc 16 is only used as a stop for the support tube 1 and the gas spring is to be supported on the bottom 19. At their lower ends, the two brackets 4, 5 each have an axially extending extension 20 or 21 with a circumferential groove 22, into which a spring ring 23 is inserted, which holds the lower ends of the brackets 4, 5 together.

Instead of the circumferential ribs 17, 18, of course, individual wart-like projections can also be provided in one or in several planes.

As can be seen from FIG. 3, the edges 24, 25 of the two brackets 4, 5 overlap outside the clamping area. It is thereby achieved that the cavity 10 is closed relatively tight, whereby the risk of contamination is reduced.

Fig. 5 shows a modification of the embodiment of FIGS. 1 to 4, namely that instead of the circumferential ribs 17, 18 in the cavity 10, a pipe section 26 is used, which rests on the bottom 19 of the cavity 10 and its upper end over the disc 16 serves as a support for the lower end of the gas spring 11 and as a stop for the support tube 1.

Of course, many modifications of the illustrated embodiment are possible without leaving the scope of the invention. So instead of a gas spring, another spring element, for. B. a helical compression spring can be provided. The brackets 4, 5 also do not need to limit a closed cavity, although this is preferred for reasons of occupational safety and to reduce the risk of contamination. To limit the tolerances, the support tube 1 can be calibrated.
