Description

The invention relates to a plastic screw cap closure with an improved tamper-evident band. It relates to the technical field of packaging elements.

Numerous screw closure devices are known comprising a security means intended to control access to the content of the container closed by such devices, and to avoid, in particular, fraudulent operations on this content.

In general, these corking devices which are mounted on bottles whose rings are of the type standardized almost universally and known under the name of "Pilferproof" comprise a screw cap, possibly provided with a seal. , and an annular security strip separably connected to the lower part of the capsule skirt. Any attempt to unscrew the capsule must cause the safety strip to separate.

Originally, these tamper-evident capsules were made of metal, in particular aluminum, and after screwing on the capsule, the safety band was crimped onto the neck by a simple mechanical device.

At present, there is a tendency to replace aluminum with thermoplastic polymers which are no longer suitable for simple crimping because of their natural elasticity.

A number of solutions have therefore been devised to ensure crimping of the tamper-evident band.

In French Patents Nos 2282378 and 2467790, one proceeds to a shrinking of the tamper-evident band under the action of a hot air jet.

This solution involves the addition of an additional step on the bottling and capping chains, and presents the risk of total cork melting when the chain comes to a stop, which means that a safety device must be provided. In addition, the appearance of the retracted band often leaves something to be desired.

In French Patent No. 2439140, the tamper-evident band folds inwardly of the capsule when it is screwed onto the neck of a bottle so that its upper rim abuts on a projection on the neck. When unscrewing, the band thus blocked cannot go back up and separates from the skirt. But there is a risk that the strip will withdraw without separating. In patent application EP-A No. 49876, the tamper-evident band comprises two parts, a first annular part connected to the lower part of the skirt of the capsule by breakable bridges, and a second part constituted by a plurality of tongues connected to the first part by zones forming a joint, each tongue having one end forming a heel which abuts on a projection on the neck like the edge of the tamper-evident band described by the previous document.

The present invention constitutes another solution to this problem, with an improved tamper-evident band which ensures both easy positioning of the capsule and a frank and safer separation of the tamper-evident band during the first unscrewing.

Special sealing means for the capsule are proposed in conjunction with the tamper-evident band of the invention.

The screw closure cap of the invention, made of plastic and with a tamper-evident band, intended for containers provided with a ring having a thread surmounting a counter ring whose lower part forms a rim, comprises, as is known, a head , a skirt provided with an internal thread, and a tamper-evident band connected to the lower part of the skirt by a plurality of bridges constituting breakable connections, the tamper-evident band itself comprising two parts, a first annular part connected to the lower part of the skirt of the capsule by breakable bridges, and a second part constituted by a plurality of tongues connected to the first part by articulations, each tongue having a heel arranged so as to exceed the rim of the counter ring with which it forms a stop after the tongue has been internally folded against or towards the first annular part during screwing. Particularly to the invention, the articulations of the tongues are formed by thinned zones and each tongue has, beyond the heel, a thinned extension intended to come to be jammed after screwing between the first annular part and the counter ring.
  • Figs. 1 to 4 show in section (fig. 1 and 2) or in partially cut view (fig. 3 and 4) an example of capsule, object of the invention.
  • Fig. 3 also shows a first means of sealing the capsule of the invention.
  • Figs. 5 and 6 show in axial half-section a second sealing means.
  • Fig. 7 shows in axial half-section a third sealing means.

1) a head 1 and a skirt 2 provided with an internal thread 3 which cooperates with the thread of the container to be capped. The tamper-evident band 4 is attached to the lower part of the skirt 2 by a plurality of bridges 5 which constitute the breaking points during the subsequent unscrewing. The tamper-evident band 4 comprises a continuous annular upper part 4A and a lower part constituted by a plurality of tabs such as 6 connected to the upper part 4A by a thinned part 7 which constitutes a kind of articulation. The tongues 6 also have a heel 8 and a thinned extension 9.

The tongues 6 are molded in the position of FIG. 1, that is to say turned upwards. During the demolding, they turn over and come in vertical position according to fig. 2. When demolding is finished, their own elasticity brings them back to the position of fig. 1, after pivoting around the thinned area 7 which acts as a hinge. They thus form an acute angle with the annular part 4 and are turned towards the inside of the capsule.

When the capsule is screwed onto the glass ring 10 (fig. 3 and 4), the tongues 6 are forced by the buttock 11 of the neck to fold against the band 4 and, at the end of the screwing, the heels 8 exceed the rim 12 of the counter ring 11 (fig. 3). The elastic memory of the tongues 6 then presses them onto the counter-ring 11 in a position such that any attempt at unscrewing brings the heels 8 into abutment under the rim 12 of the counter-ring 11. The thinned end portion of the tongue 6 being wedged between the strip 4A and the counter ring 11, the heels 8 cannot disengage downwards, and the breaking of the bridges 5 is then inevitable, which leaves visible proof of this first opening of the capsule.

This plastic screw cap closure with improved tamper-evident band comprises, with this tamper-evident device, sealing means which, separately or in combination, constitute advantageous improvements of the capsule.

A first sealing means is an inner cover 13 in the form of an inclined peripheral lip (FIG. 3) whose outer surface is applied to the inside of the rounded end of the neck of the bottle during corking. by screwing on the capsule.

A second sealing means (FIGS. 5 and 6) is particularly effective; it seals the inside of the neck a little lower than its orifice thanks to a cap 14 connected to the head 1, this cap 14 being formed. of a central chimney in the form of a skirt 15 flanked by a peripheral lateral lip 16. The outside diameter of the body of the central chimney in the form of a skirt 15 is slightly smaller than the minimum diameter provided for the interior 17 of the neck , the terms minimum and maximum being understood as the limits generally accepted for the internal diameter 17 due to the variations inherent in the industrial processes for manufacturing bottles. The outer diameter of the peripheral lateral lip 16 is a little larger than the maximum diameter provided for the interior 17, so that the end of this lip 16 comes first to abut on the upper end of the neck when screw on the capsule.

By way of example and to fix ideas, in the case of a neck with an internal diameter 17 included in industrial practice between 16.7 and 19 mm, the chimney 15 has an external diameter of 16.3 mm and its lip device 16 has an outside diameter of 19.5 mm.

When the capsule is screwed on, the lower part 18 of the chimney penetrates with a slight clearance until the peripheral lateral lip 16 abuts on the edge of the neck (fig. 5), then when the screwing is continued, the peripheral lip enters the neck by tilting upwards (fig. 6), this tilting causing flaring of the lower part 18 of the skirt-shaped chimney 15, this lower part 18 then being applied lower on the internal surface of the neck. A double seal is thus obtained by the ends of the lips 18 and 15. As can be seen in FIG. 6, this tilting and flaring effect is reflected in each axial section of the cover by a pivoting and bending diagrammed by the arrow. In the case of a container containing a liquid under pressure, the internal pressure tends to apply more the lower end 18 of the chimney against the internal wall of the neck, and the end of the peripheral lateral lip 16 continues to produce a second sealing, its application against the wall being due to its tilting and its elasticity. The lip 16 at rest is preferably directed downwards (fig. 5), so as to accentuate this tilting effect and elastic support.

A third sealing means (fig. 7) provides sealing on the area of the external surface of the neck between the rounded end of this neck and the start of the threading. A peripheral lip 19 connected to the skirt 2 of the capsule above its thread extends inwards so that it comes to apply fairly strongly on the external wall of the neck, in the zone between the 'rounded end and thread, area with fairly tight diameter tolerances, when the cap is screwed on. When the capsule is screwed on, the end of the lip 19 comes to bear against the external wall of the neck and turns upwards while being applied in an elastic manner. The peripheral lip 19 at rest is preferably oriented downwards so as to increase this elastic effect or spring effect. The advantage of the location of said peripheral lip forming the third sealing means is good reproducibility - bility of the quality of the seal obtained related to the narrow diameter tolerances of the application area.

The screw closure cap of the invention, provided with sealing means and in particular with any one of the three means specified above or with any combination of these means, is easy to produce by molding. a thermoplastic polymer such as polypropylene. Its tamper-evident device offers total security and adapts perfectly to all automatic bottling and capping chains. The capsule of the invention adapts to the containers without harming their aesthetics.
