Bei den seit einigen Jahren auf dem Markt erhältlichen Herden mit sogenannten Strahlkochplatten muß die Heizwendel frei strahlend unter der für Wärmestrahlen durchlässigen Glaskeramikplatte angeordnet werden. Die Heizwendel kann dementsprechend nicht mehr "eingebettet" werden. Es treten nun bei den Strahlkochplatten eine Reihe von Problemen auf, die bei geschlossenen Kochplatten nicht auftreten, so daß insoweit bei geschlossenen Kochplatten getroffene Maßnahmen nicht auf Strahlkochplatten übertragbar sind. Ein wesentliches Problem liegt in dem "Hochsteigen" eines Wendelabschnittes. Die Heizwendel muß einen bestimmten Abstand von der Glaskeramikplatte haben, damit sich ein entsprechender Wirkungsgrad ergibt. Dieser Abstand beträgt im allgemeinen 10 mm. Bei den im Luftraum zwischen der Heizwendel und der Glaskeramikplatte herrschenden Temperaturen tritt eine starke Ionisierung der Luft auf, und zwar durch von der Heizwendel abgestrahlte Ionen. Wenn nun die Heizwendel aufgrund der thermischen Belastung an einer Stelle um 1 - 2 mm hochsteigt, kann dies zu einem elektrischen Durchschlag mit entsprechender Gefährdung führen. Um dies zu verhindern, werden in der Praxis überwiegend U-förmige Haken in großer Anzahl verwendet, welche in die Heizwendelhalterung eingetrieben werden und die Heizwendel in den Rillen der Halterung halten.
