Abstract

A device for stacking sheets comprises several disks arranged adjacent to each other on a driving shaft, the disks having spiral slots running from the outside towards the inside. The spiral slots of the disks overlap in an axial direction and together form a pocket into which the sheets conveyed. In order to guarantee trouble-free stacking of the sheets, the spiral slots of adjacent disks are staggered at least in the inner area of the stacker. Therefore, almost all the kinetic energy of a sheet which is inserted into the shot is issipated by frictional and flexing. The spiral slots of one or more disks may additionally be provided with elastic boundary walls.

Description

The invention relates to a device for stacking sheet-shaped objects using a plurality of disks arranged adjacent to one another on a drive axis and having slots which extend spirally from the outside inwards, the slots of the disks lying axially overlapping each forming a storage compartment into which the items . can be introduced individually through a transport system.

Automatic sorting machines, in which sheet-shaped objects, for example receipts, are sorted, must be able to process large quantities in the shortest possible time, which inevitably leads to high transport speeds. The higher the transport speed, the more problematic the processing of the documents, for example their stacking after the sorting process, because the documents have to be slowed down to a standstill within a short time.

AS 12-48 561 describes a spiral stacker in which two disks rotating about a common axis are arranged next to one another with slits running spirally from the outside inwards. The slits of the disks, which are axially aligned, each form a storage compartment into which a slip is inserted tangentially. With the help of a scraper arranged between the panes, the receipts are removed from the storage compartments again. The peripheral speed of the disks is significantly lower than the transport speed of the documents, so that the incoming document slides with its surface along the outer boundary walls of the spiral slots. Derived from the Relativbe The resulting friction force slows down the document. Due to the centrifugal force that becomes effective as a result of the deflection into a spiral path, the pressure of the documents against the corresponding boundary walls is increased, which increases the friction, albeit depending on the speed. However, it has been found that the braking is insufficient, even if the stacking device is provided with a plurality of spiral disks to increase the effective friction surface. In particular, more rigid documents hit the spiral belt ends or the scraper at speeds that are still too high and are reflected again from there. The document can leave the storage compartment prematurely, which inevitably leads to a disturbance of the stacking process. If documents with a rather soft, lobed quality hit the spiral track ends or the scraper at too high speeds, an accordion-like deformation is possible, especially in the front area of the document. Damage or at least inaccurate alignment during stacking is often the result.

The object of the invention is therefore to create a spiral slot stacker which enables trouble-free stacking largely independently of the condition of the documents and their speed.

The object is achieved by the features contained in the characterizing part of the main claim.

By designing the storage compartments according to the invention, almost the entire kinetic energy of a receipt is converted into friction and flexing work even before the front edge of the receipt hits the tray greatly weakened. In addition, the noise that is caused in conventional forklift trucks by the impact of the document at the end of the compartment or on the scraper is reduced. The gentle braking and the guidance of the document in a confined space allow it to come to a standstill without being wrinkled, so that even very soft, lobed documents can be processed without problems.

Due to the interlocking of the spiral slots and their rigid design, a corrugated curvature is additionally impressed on the slip perpendicular to the spiral curvature, which can cause the slip to wedge in the stacker if the slip is too strong. In this case, ragged, very unstable documents may not be ejected from the spiral compartment without interference, even though the braking process at the inlet is not affected.

As will be shown in connection with an advantageous further development of the invention, it is nevertheless possible to make the interlocking of the spiral slots comparatively strong without running the risk of the slip becoming wedged. This is achieved in that at least one boundary wall of a spiral slot is elastic and can therefore be pushed back by the incoming document. This increases the pressure on the slip and also the effective frictional force within the spiral compartment, without fear of the slip becoming too wedged.

The principle of operation and the structure of a stacking device will be explained with reference to FIG. 1. The documents 1 are fed in the direction of the arrow 20 in rapid succession through a transport system consisting of the conveyor belts 2 and the transport rollers 10 to the spiral compartment stacker rotating in the direction of the arrow 21. The stacker consists of several disks 5 which are fastened perpendicular to the plane of the drawing in FIG. 1 on an axis 9 at a distance from one another. Slits 12 are provided in each disk, running spirally to the center of the disk. The individual disks are attached to the axis so that the slots be Axially seen neighboring discs are in cover. The slits in each case form a spiral compartment. The slip slides along the outer boundary 12a of a spiral slot within a compartment. As the spiral slotted discs rotate continuously, the documents are removed from the spiral compartments by the stripper 11, which is arranged between the discs, and stacked on a tray 4.

In conventional spiral stackers, only the frictional forces that occur between the document 1 and the respective outer boundary wall 12a of a spiral slot 12 contribute to the braking of the documents. The centrifugal force provides a certain gain through the additional pressure.

According to the solution according to the invention, the document is bilateral, i. H. touched and braked by both the outer and the inner boundary walls of the slots. This detection on both sides can be implemented in several ways, as will be described below.

In a first embodiment, two different types of discs are used, which are in a multi-disc arrangement, e.g. B. in alternating sequence, are attached to a drive axle. As shown in FIG. 2 in a top view and FIG. 3 in a sectional view, four disks 15, 16, 17 and 18 are fastened on the axis 25. Two disks 15 and 17 or 16 and 18 are constructed identically. The disc pairs differ in the different radius of curvature of the spiral slots. In the example shown, the spiral slots 19 and 21 are the Discs 15 and 17 are curved more and more sharply than the slots 20 and 22 of discs 16 and 18 from about half of the total spiral slot length as they approach the center of the disc. As also clearly shown in FIG take cover as they gradually diverge toward the center of the stacker drum. A receipt can therefore enter the spiral compartment assigned to it without disability, since the entrances of the spiral slots overlap congruently. As the process progresses, the gradually increasing entanglement of the spiral slots becomes noticeable. The document thus comes into contact with the boundary walls of the spiral slots on both sides (see FIG. 3) and is braked as a result of the frictional forces which act on both sides of the document. With increasing entanglement, these frictional forces increase because the slip experiences an additional corrugation curvature perpendicular to the spiral curvature. This forced corrugation curvature, which becomes stronger as the inlet increases, and which can be clearly seen in FIG. 3, increases the pressure of the document against the boundary walls of the spiral slots. The frictional forces and thus the braking effect are continuously increasing, ä The tight guidance of the slip combined with the corrugated curvature acting perpendicular to the spiral curvature ensure that the slip is safely and non-destructively decelerated to the idle state at the end of the spiral compartment.

The strength of the corrugated curvature of the slip is determined by the strength of the entanglement of the spiral slots and by the distance between the washers. This gives many possibilities, the embodiment of the spiral compartment arrangement to the given conditions optimally adapt. This range of possible embodiments also includes the design of the increase in the degree of entanglement and the choice of the location of the effective entanglement, so that the strength of the braking effect and also the braking distance can be adapted to the prevailing conditions.

The bilateral contact between the documents and the boundary surfaces of the spiral slots can also be realized with identical spiral compartment washers, the slot openings of which taper from the outside inwards. In this arrangement, at least one of the disks is mounted on the drive axle rotated by a small angular amount. This offset angle is chosen so that the spiral slot openings in the inner area of the disc no longer overlap. As in the previously described embodiment, the document is additionally corrugated transversely to the spiral curvature.

An embodiment of the invention is described below which, as mentioned at the outset, allows the spiral slots of a stacker to be more closely interlocked without the ejection of the documents being impaired. Among other things, a disc type as shown in FIG. 4 is used in this stacker.

The spiral slots 31 - formed in the outer area as in the disks explained above - have an elastic boundary wall from about half the spiral length towards the center of the disk, which is cut out in the form of a tongue 34 from the material of the disk. A free space is also assigned to the spiral material, each associated with a spiral slot 31 cut out space 36 into which the tongue can be pressed. This can be done, for example, by a document that is thicker than the spiral slot in the area of the tongue, but also, as will be shown below, by the offset arrangement of the spiral slot of a second disk.

Die beiden außen liegenden Scheiben 23, 26 sind in ihrem Aufbau mit den im vorhergehenden Ausführungsbeispiel erläuterten Scheiben identisch.5, 6 and 7 illustrate by way of example the mode of operation of a stack with elastically designed spiral slots, with FIGS. 6 and 7 showing sectional views from FIG. 5 along the lines 6-6 and 7-7, respectively. The stacker consists of disks 23, 24, 25 and .26, with only disks 23 and 24 (dashed lines) being shown in FIG. 5 for the sake of clarity. In this exemplary embodiment, the two inner disks 24 and 25 are equipped with elastic elements or tongues 34, 35, as a result of which the spiral slots 31, 32 of these disks are severely restricted in the area of the tongues. Above the tongues, as shown in FIGS. 6 and 7, there are free spaces 36, 37 into which the tongues 34, 35 can be moved. The structure of the two outer disks 23, 26 is identical to the disks explained in the previous exemplary embodiment.

Also in the spiral compartment stacker with elastic boundary walls, the spiral slits of adjacent panes in the inlet area of the stacker are covered (see FIG. 5 spiral slits 31, 30). However, the spiral slots 31, 32 of the inner disks 24, 25 are strongly offset towards the center of the disk, so that an incoming document is forced, as shown in FIGS. 5 and 7, the elastic boundary walls or tongues 34 , 35 push back.

Although the offset of the spiral slots 31, 32 and 30, 33 is relatively large and the document can be braked safely and without being wrinkled as a result, wedging of the document, which may prevent the ejection, is not to be feared because of the elastic boundary walls. As shown in FIG. 5 using the example of the disks 23, 24, the spiral slots 30 of the disk 23 end earlier than the spiral slots 31 ′ of the disk 24 equipped with tongues 34. This prevents the documents from reaching the freely movable end of a tongue penetrate where they could get stuck.

In the illustrated embodiment, the tapered end of a tongue is freely movable. It is possible to increase the resistance of a tongue to an incoming document by restricting the freedom of movement of the outgoing end of a tongue by means of an appropriately designed counter bearing. A realization of this variant in dashed form is indicated in FIG. 4. The braking force acting on an incoming document can be further increased by the counter bearing 38.

The elastic boundary walls or tongues are cut out of the material of the disk in the illustrated embodiment. It is of course also possible to use disks with conventional spiral slots, in which metal springs are then inserted, for example.
